  1. U-uh - my favourite wish of "normal" enhancements are Boolean searches... Now we can have it 👍 but for additional money - we have to subscribe to Professional 😞 OK, I like their argument "pay if you want us to really help you in future for sure" - and I will upgrade -- but only if a real professional can work as fluidy and reliable as in the past! As long as EN-10 is crapping my time and resources, I'll stay with Legacy and my personal account. Boolean searches are state of the art in so many systems around the world. EN always has been proud about their search capabilities - to keep being the best should be matter of honor.

  2. Hi all, Thanks for trying Tasks in Early Access and sharing your feedback! You helped us identify bugs, refine this exciting feature, and create an Evernote that better meets your needs. I’m pleased to say that Tasks is now released to all Evernote customers as part of our new lineup of subscription plans. To find out more about how we’re incorporating your feedback into Tasks, check out this post on the Evernote blog. Although Tasks has now transitioned to general availability, your opinion matters and I hope you’ll continue sharing your thoughts with us. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out directly here. Thanks, Jack

  3. I think I'm going to go and have a quiet cry in the corner. 😢 I've been paying for Evernote since 2010, and a number of times asked why search did not include boolean operators - such a critical part of search. So to hear (haven't used it yet as I'm only Personal now) that boolean searching is now available but I have to pay more for it feels like a kick in the teeth. To Ian, I am impressed by what you have been doing to make the elephant dance again. After years of no new features we are finally seeing the catch-up happening. But I suspect you are going to lose a number of your long term users with the additional tier of pricing you have introduced. You can already see this in the comments above. To stick with EN for more than 10 years and now not get the features I have been hanging out for is so disappointing. While your organisation was wandering around in the wilderness without direction, the notes ecosystem has exploded. With bidirectional linking still not available in Evernote, and just launching the basics of task management and calendar integration (well done for these they are a good start but not a finished product) you still lag behind other products that have entered the market in the last couple of years. And now you are telling me that to get the payback for the years of loyalty, I have to pay more. I understand your need to be profitable, but you need to retain customers - and retention is cheaper than acquisition. After years of making do with Evernote, I have other viable options. I now do most of my writing in Roam Research. By making, what are for most products, normal search an additional cost item, I will be seriously considering my options with other products. I already use Fantastical and Todoist for calendar and task management (they integrate together really well) and what you offer, even at the Premium level, is basic. Feels like too little, too late. So what are 11 years of loyalty through the bad times worth to you?

  4. The announcement says: NEW: More search options, including Boolean terms and geographic search to find precisely the information you need. which doesn't suggest to me the withdrawal of advanced search options just the addition of Boolean search

  5. If you logout and login again, does it resolve the issue?

  6. These are all valid points. My impression from the emails was that Premium subscriptions wouldn't lose features. But if I've lost the ability to use advanced search options, then that simply isn't true. That is a feature lost. When I saw "Use Boolean terms to refine search results" in the Professional section, I immediately thought, "Oh no, this is going to affect me isn't it?"

  7. I like that there is a new task widget. I do have a question. Are there options to show what tasks show up in the widget? For example I would like to show Flagged tasks in the widget. I dont see options for viewing the widget.

  12. I've been on Plus plan for years, and I'm still on Plus, which has offline notes on mobile app. But the new Plus plan description says the offline notes are ONLY on desktop app. That means I won't have offline notes on my phone any more? How can Evernote take away something that I already paid for???

  13. I paid for an annual plan. When that renews it'll be nearly 25% higher

  14. Erm... y'see it was like this - I opened the page and this big black bold 'professional' leapt out at me... I may have slightly missed the grey 'you are here' under personal. Sorry - more personal fact-checking required! (And maybe a tad less aggressive layout?...)

  15. Yep, thanks. I should have tried that first. Also, great to see the Tasks widget!

  17. @pavank Thank you! I was unaware of Apkmirror. Thank heavens they exist! I started looking for alternatives to Evernote (and I'll keep looking when I have time). Words cannot describe how much I detest version 10! Buggy beyond belief and slow as watching paint dry! What were these people thinking? That thing isn't even good enough to call a Beta version! And to Evernote decision makers: Do you think your users are such lonely people that they need an app to tell them "Good Morning ********" at the expense of a considerably slower user experience? Evernote users are BUSY PEOPLE, and don't need your app to be a new friend!!!

  18. Hi, the email we received before stated those of us on premium would lose no features but gain new ones. My Evernote Home is now telling me I cannot use specific widgets like calendars or tasks or scratchpad without upgrading to personal. As premium is meant to have all the features it did, I assume this is a bug as I previously had scratch pad. Can someone clarify why this is taking place and how this can be resolved.

  20. @splus "Get offline access on mobile and desktop" You'll see that this is listed as a feature of the Personal plan which is the replacement for Premium. Plus has been deprecated as a plan for three years or more. I've not seen any evidence of a replacement Plus plan but it will, inevitably, be less fully featured than Personal.

  23. I completely agree. I fully accept that it is within EN's gift to decide which features should be available at each level. However Boolean search and geographic search seem like pretty fundamental things for a company which, as you say. prides iteself in it's search abilities.

  24. There are a few new things included in the Personal. Might not be a big deal to some, but here is from @Shane D.post introducing new plans. NEW–Evernote Personal All the features of Evernote Free and Premium, plus: NEW: Tasks lets you create tasks in your notes and manage them all in one summarized view. You can set reminders, due dates, and notifications to help you stay focused. NEW: Connect Evernote to your primary Google Calendar account to keep meeting and event details synced with your related notes. NEW: Get more Home widgets and adjust the layout to fit your style.

  26. Lets try that again My Premium account switched to Personal I was expecting to be switched to the new Professional level btw My information on the left says Subscription: PREMIUM Quoting from the July 7 email In the coming weeks, here’s what you can expect: • We’ll upgrade you into a new, more powerful Evernote plan at the same price you’re paying now. • You’ll keep all the Evernote features and services the Premium plan offers today. • Your updated plan will also include brand new features to help you stay on top of your day-to-day.

  28. Well, I can’t see any announcement that shows “Personal is the same as Premium” from the link, or even from the official website. Another question is, I just renewed my Premium Subscription this month in July, what if I wanted to upgrade to Professional from Premium now, how’d you fix the bill???

  30. Hi all, I’m happy to announce that we’ve made some big improvements and additions to search in Evernote, including new advanced search syntax, Boolean search, and geographic search! New advanced search syntax Advanced search syntax is now more powerful with the addition of a new category of “contains” items. Simply type “contains:” into the search bar to filter your notes by what type of content is in them—like calendar events, tasks, addresses, and more. This article shows the full list of items you can choose from and more info on using advanced search syntax. Boolean search For those who aren’t familiar with them, Boolean terms like AND, OR, NOT, and ( ) narrow down your search results so you can find the information you need faster. For example: “Dogs AND cats” would show you only notes that have both “dogs” and “cats” in them. “Dogs OR cats” would show you notes with either “dogs” or “cats” in them. “Dogs NOT cats” would show you notes with “dogs” in them, but not if they also contain “cats.” “(Dogs OR cats) AND birds” would show notes with either “dogs” or “cats” in them, but only those that also contain “birds.” Geographic search Some people who travel a lot need to find notes based on where they were taken—for example, at a conference, with a client on the road, or on a remote project site. Once you have the coordinates, you can search for notes created on a mobile device (with location tracking enabled) based on where they were created. For example, if you type “geodistance:37.49,-122.22,50km” you’ll see all the notes you’ve created within a 50 km radius of the Evernote head office. (You can also measure in miles and nautical miles.) Boolean search and geographic search are both available to Professional and Teams subscribers. You’ve been asking for these features for a while, and we’re excited to bring them to you today. Together, they make it even easier to find what you need in Evernote. To get started, make sure you’ve updated your app to the latest version. If you have any questions regarding the recent plan changes, please see this article. Otherwise, feel free to start a thread in this forum or reach out to me directly here. Thanks! Shane D.

  31. Evernote let’s me write check lists to keep track of what needs to be done and check things that are cleared. I’m also able to set reminders to notes. And in those notes I’m able to store styled text, attachments and pictures. I really can’t see that the new task feature brings anything I couldn’t do before. Until now I’ve used a note as a record of a task, and kept those tasks in a specific note book. And when I’ve needed to split such a task into smaller sub tasks, I’ve done that by adding a styled check list in the note. And for private tasks I’ve been using the task feature that comes with iOS. It loads a lot faster than Evernote.

  33. 1. Paid for the Premium for two years. Realized they were NEVER going to improve the product, and realized the ONLY thing it did well was clip web pages. 2. This product runs SLOWER than my first database program on my Commodore 128 back in 1987. Pretty sad when you product is so slow one pines for the lethargic speeds of 25 years ago. 3. Trying and failing--nay, making the product worse--is actually worse than not trying. 4. A good product is not designed by giving users what they say they want, that is true. But a business that does not solve a customer's problems has just lost that customer.

  34. Good thought, but I always have my download direct from Evernote, so, seems it is in intermittent bug. I'll submit a ticket. Thanks for your screenshot. (Also, I've had the experience of a reinstall on iOS fixing the issue - ie the app reappears in the share options. Not sure if that will help on the Mac, but can give it a try).

  35. Did a quick test but I immediately saw the following bugs again: - pictures not being displayed (https://discussion.evernote.com/forums/topic/132161-images-in-my-notes-do-not-load/) - images scanned as "documents" not being indexed (https://discussion.evernote.com/forums/topic/132604-no-thumbnail-on-scanned-images-and-no-ocr/) - offline notebooks still not downloading reliably, furthermore changes done remotely are not synced automatically without opening the app and staring at the progress bar forever 😞 - overall still irresponsive and too slow to work with So stopped further testing and deinstalled again. Went back to 8.13.3, which works like a charm for my core usage: quick note taking and editing (yes! 😊), capturing+indexing (search), offline ability (all which is failed by EN 10.XX since launch 7 months ago)

  37. Reminds me of the old IBM joke Three women were talking about their husbands and their love making, and the first one says, "My husband is an athlete and when he makes love to me, he is so powerful that I am swept up in his body, and it's wonderful" The second woman says, "My husband is a violinist, and when we make love, he knows how to play me like I'm a fine musical instrument, and it's overwhelming and beautiful" The third woman says, "My husband is a salesman for IBM, and he doesn't actually make love to me, he just sits on the edge of the bed and tells me how good it's going to be when I finally get it."

  39. It does seem to misread the room rather badly - lots of posts here and elsewhere have been commenting that trust in Evernote has been badly shaken - or lost. Here they are telling us there's more on the way. It's like they took their model from the film industry, generating interest in a sequel by teasing the starring roles and speculating on who will be the villain. Now we're all just wondering "what now?!" Hope they follow up with the details soon!

  41. @denysoft, Evernote has been refusing to implement this feature for over a decade. Apparently they sell enough software into their niche that they don't care about attracting a wider user base. We are wasting out time even asking, as the response from EN zealots is always the same: a workaround using tags. I continue to subscribe to this thread just in case lightning strikes, but without hierarchical folders EN will continue, for me, to be just a handy place for web clips.

  42. I just tested typing at the end of my 2 test notes in Evernote Mac v10.8.5. The problem has not been fixed. I sent the following update to my support ticket email thread: I will post back here if I get a reply or other update. I am continuing to use Mac Evernote Legacy. It has no delay typing at the bottom of the same test notes. Evernote Legacy is working OK for "production use" for me, so I will continue to use it instead of 10.8.5 which is not usable at all.

  43. Am I missing something here, but where is Sync in ENv10? This is a crucial feature which not only let's me feel that know that everything is synched but it's also a way to check if emails or were properly brought over from Gmail to EN. About 5 minutes ago I saved a pdf to EN and then waited for about 5 minutes before I saw it appear in v10. In the meanwhile I noticed that it appeared instantaneously in the Legacy version. So, not only is it not possible to force a sync but it also appears as if it takes longer for items to show up in the inbox.

  44. I have created several sections in the same page/note. Similar to the Word document, can I create the bookmark name for each section so I can create several hyperlinks at the top of the page so I can click the specific section which will lead me to speculator section in the same page rather than scroll down to find the right section? Thanks

  45. I have another indicator for power user unrest: This forum used to be full of Basic user postings in search for assistance. Not any more, the percentage of Premium users jumped up when the v10 update hit the devices. Currently I do not see really positive postings, most are between „I can’t believe that’s happening“ and „Looking for the life boats“. So leaving the discussion of tags vs. notebooks to the side (is this really our main concern ?) - somebody in Product Management obviously forgot to filter for what power and premium users are doing with their EN accounts. And for sure they did not ask for the workflows around EN, into which EN was embedded as key element. Search failing to find all, or finding too much, no local content, no import folders, sharing is a mess, scripting is gone, as are shortcuts, clipping on iOS is plain broken, context gone, presentation mode axed, most backup solutions stopped to work etc. Anybody still playing the music on the Evertanic ?

  46. Be very careful if and when you upgrade to the new version. Many, many features that you have come to expect and rely on have been removed. Evernote really needs to publish a comprehensive list of what people will lose if they "upgrade".

  47. In my workflow it's essential to filter by tags the notes in a single Notebook. This is the first thing I noticed in the new Evernote for iOS and I was very disappointed!
