  1. Hi All, Thank you for sharing all of your thoughts and feedback regarding the new client. Our teams have closely watched this thread, and have used your feedback to help us shape our product decisions. Even if you do not like the new client, getting insight into why you do/don't like something has been very helpful for our development teams. That being said, this thread has become too much of a catch-all for different requests/issues that should be posted/shared individually, in more applicable locations. This thread is also over six months old, and a lot of the content is no longer relevant to the app in its current state. Considering this, I will be closing and archiving this thread. Remember, if you have a specific feature request, share it here. If you have a specific bug/issue report, share it here. As always, you are more than welcome to share what you do/don't like about Evernote in the forums as long you abide by the Code of Conduct Feel free to reach out to me directly if you have any other questions. Thank you.

  2. Yup - I moved across a couple of days ago and had the same experience. Very long initial load, but after that, it's pretty nifty. And I'm on 53K notes! I'm almost tempted to update my 6.25.... almost...

  3. Just in case anyone else has been following this update... Evernote v10 for web is now available for those with bigger accounts. However, it comes with a warning that performance may be slow. https://help.evernote.com/hc/en-us/articles/1500006072561 After a lot of load time... after a few minutes of testing, works okay with my 15k notes. But we shall see!

  5. At this time, Evernote is a critical piece of my overall PKM System and Workflow. Essential to this workflow is the capability of producing a fully functioning PDF from an Evernote Note. This is something Evernote Legacy does just fine with the File/Print to PDF... command. On the other hand, With the new Evernote, the only option to produce a PDF of a note is to select the Print option for a note, then select a PDF printer. With three different PDF printers I selected, the resulting PDFs are not true PDFs. They are an image of the Evernote note. They are not highlightable, comment-able, or searchable. If the capability to produce a fully functional PDF ends with Legacy, my workflow will break when Legacy is terminated. And thus I will need to find some sort of alternative to Evernote for the front-end data capture in my PKM System. I love the new Evernote for its handling of what is within Evernote. Evernote has been key to my workflow because it is by far the best webpage capture tool on the market (as best I can tell). It is also a phenomenal note-taking tool for Zoom meetings as I can readily capture screenshots while typing in notes. In both of these cases, it's a great tool for the front-end of my PKM system -- the operating core of which is in Obsidian. The only thing I go back to Legacy Evernote for is to produce PDFs of the notes. Please reassure us that we will be able to create fully functional PDFs from the new version of Evernote going forward. Until I hear this to be true, I must prepare my alternative tool sets and methods for the possibility of the gap that Evernote would leave me to deal with if the PDF functionality I require is not incorporated in the new version. Thanks!

  7. Hi, please improve the PDF annotations window - there is no way to zoom in and out - sometimes a bit difficult to highlight small font text.

  8. I do not have any use for this new Evernote home screen that came with the recent upgrade. I just want it to open in the Notes view, both in Windows and on my Android phone. Is there anyway to do that? I can't find a setting for it.

  9. Thanks, I will try it as a temporary solution --and see if it helps me save my notes under the html format. I hope the newer versions of Evernote will offer an alternate solution for back up soon.

  10. Go to the notebook you want to search. Click in the search bar and you will see immediately below the text input area the option to filter on that notebook. Click add filter and then search as normal. Alternatively you could search first and then filter on the notebook using the filter menu.

  11. I'm sorry if this has been mentioned elsewhere, but I couldn't find anything. When I use the "Search in Evernote" (Shift+Win+F) shortcut, it takes me to the search input in Evernote, but leaves the previous search there, rather than clearing it out. I think you can make a pretty good case that this is usually an annoyance rather than being helpful. It seems to me that most often a user would want the box cleared so that they can start entering a new search staightaway. Here's what I'm using: 10.12.5-win-ddl-public (2564) Editor: v122.1.15818 Service: v1.33.7 © 2019 - 2021 Evernote Corporation. All rights reserved Thanks for any thoughts ...

  13. Hi. What versions of Evernote Web / Windows do you have installed? V10 should look the same on both. You can use the same (limited) choice of fonts.

  15. Thanks, I reverted to the legacy version, after I upgraded to an early release of v.10 - about half a year ago. The downside is, Evernote explicitly will not support v.6 any longer (no bug fixes, no update, no nothing - thanks Evernote!). And my legacy version is stalling every third click or so. So I thought I could give v.10 another chance. But was again frustrated immediately Personally, I don't mind a "learing curve". As long as it is an upward curve. But this product version is just degrading... With lots of great features simply removed for the lame reason "t's not an upgrade, it's a new product".

  17. When I first investigated sideloading I learned that it was possible to download Android APK files directly from the Google Play Store's website. Given that the Play Store will still install v8.13.3 for versions of Android earlier than 10 it should be possible to grab an officially blessed APK file that way. As to third-party sites, APKPure.com has an entire archive of Evernote versions up to 8.13.3. I've never seen evidence that APKPure's files contained malware or viruses, despite the question coming up frequently (viz Quora last month). Indeed, once you've installed v 8.13.3 ( after you've disabled automatic updates!) I would expect Google's Play Protect function to complain if it found something amiss.

  19. Thanks Mike. I will be posting several paragraphs from different sources into the same note and would therefore want the url referenced beneath the paragraph... I may have to switch to OneNote if Evernote will not implement this clever mechanism. Thanks, S.

  20. Yes, it will impact any account that lives on the same server as the problem note. The reminder metadata lives with the note, but when a reminder is set, we separately create an entry in a database that the asynchronous process reads and sends emails from. The processing of that data goes back and reads the metadata of the note itself. That's the data that is "invalid", causing the process to halt. Nothing here that is user actionable. We can temporarily fix the data by altering the note metadata from our side. But the right fix would be adding code that auto-corrects the invalid data when it encounters it. As I noted, it's possible this is coming from a 3rd party client too, and not necessarily one of our own clients. So the right fix is "self-healing" on the server, though we'd still like to add logging to track down where the invalid data is coming from. I made sure to hand off the ticket to another developer (in the group where the fix should lie) and they will be working on it very soon. I'll keep an eye on it so it doesn't sit for another 6-12 months :-O.

  23. I very much support Kim Korn's original post that .pdf creation by Evernote 10 on Windows is completely unsavory. I have the same results as Kim and others by using the printer "Microsoft Print to PDF." Kim was quite clear and forthcoming with the problem description and the resulting impact. Simply put, Evernote 10 for Windows removed the "Print to .pdf" option as well as the highly valued "Print Preview" option that also generated a .pdf. Both functions need to be restored. It is wrong to receive the answer "It works on the Mac," and direct users to "find other options" for Kim. (Stacey) It is wrong to turn this issue into "It may be the Nuance" print function. (others) It is wrong to suggest that the solution is to find/use an app that will OCR scan the Evernote-generated ".pdf." (others) Please take this problem seriously and fix it, not deflect it to be one that Evernote user's should handle by switching to the Mac, by using other print functions, and/or by adding steps to the work process that worked well using Evernote 6 for Windows. Sorry if my tone seems harsh. I am following this topic because I have similar concerns as Kim. It is quite distressing that the topic has quickly drifted away from fixing a problem for users and instead blaming the user and other tools for not being able to overcome this difficulty that Evernote 10 has caused.

  24. @estevancarlos Very pragmatic questions, thank you for posting. Have you heard about the GTD method, by David Allen ? I think his view on „Getting Things Done“ is still a very good starting point to optimize your personal setup and workflows. This is especially true in a situation where you have to serve several masters (jobs, projects, tasks etc.). You can find more about it here: https://gettingthingsdone.com They have a booklet about how to setup EN to support their method. Personally I have decided to set up my GTD using Things 3, a task manager only available for Mac and iOS. I am completely in the Apple ecosystem, so no answers to questions about Google or Amazon widgets and gadgets (two companies I try to avoid, together with Facebook, because I see their data hoarding habits as a deep violation of my privacy). I think that GTD methodology would serve you very well, because it brings all the loose ends and multiple inboxes together in one consolidated approach to your personal productivity. The technical tools to apply it are less important than reviewing your situation and creating the right general flow of information. This can and should be done on a sheet of paper first.

  25. Hi - Difficult to be specific about organizational systems since, as you say, they're often highly individualised to the person employing them. The basics (IMHO) are: Don't be afraid to try something that seems like a good idea - you can always change the process or the details later Don't be afraid to junk something that's not working or details that you don't understand Once you find a system that seems to work, stick with it unless and until it fails you badly - you'll waste endless time chasing perfection that could have been used for actual work! From your comments above I'd suggest: create a separate Stack for each client institution you deal with and use notebooks within each stack for specific projects / courses or assignments. Notes in each notebook can deal with the specifics of development and delivery. auto forward any emails from the individual institutions to an 'inbox' in that stack and review it daily to tag and respond as necessary. Filterize can help you move notes around and automatically 'file' notes into the correct notebook based on tags or keywords -or email addresses. Cronofy can link specifically tagged notes with Google calendar so that you always have an overview of commitments Filterize can also generate automatically updated tables of content so that (forinstance) all uncomplete tasks in the planning stage for all clients can be listed on one ToC in due date order. You can use these ToC 'Dashboards' to see: what tasks and commitments are due today / undone from previous days / coming up shortly. I don't now use any proprietary 'to-do' systems - the above basically is my own system which (apart from several external apps) works without having to search in more than one place. One final suggestion: look at Workflowy - it's much more than an 'outliner' and has a very quick and comprehensive search feature. That's now where I save a lot of boiler plate information like the links I'll add below, plus some reminders for myself about how to use my own classification systems which have gotten a bit complex lately... https://filterize.net/ https://www.cronofy.com/ https://workflowy.com/ Good Luck!

  26. The way you describe IMHO is the perfect description to create the worst piece of bloatware possible. If the app allows to switch every users pet feature on and off at will, it leads to a large number of mainly unused code, dependencies and in the end the loss of releaseability. If I take fonts: It was probably pretty simple to design a limited use of fonts, because it is a simple solution in itself, plus it helps to keep the editor lean. Allowing a user choice here would mean a complete font management tool in addition, and probably massive changes to the editor as well. As I see it v10 makes it necessary for all of us to ask ourselves whether we want to develop jointly with the new EN, or want to stay put with our current workflows. Staying currently is possible through the legacy clients (on desktop), but this means to continue dancing on a party that is going to end one day. That usually results in a bad headache the next day.

  28. I am not sure what the subscription has to do with it. I am a premium user with the Home window. I don't want it. But, now I am forced to use it. If I crashed one of the Zoom development meetings at Evernote, I would recommend having some of these concepts / questions at the front of my mind for any design issues. 1. Does it require more clicks / taps? If so, then it probably isn't worth it. For example, we now have to tap several times just to edit a note on mobile. I have no idea why more clicks / taps were added to the process. 2. Does it increase the information density while keeping things easy to read / making them easier to read? If not, then it probably isn't worth it. Why in the world would you remove data about our notes and make it impossible to know some basic stuff like how many notes have been downloaded in an offline notebook? There is space for it. A while back in mobile (a few versions ago) we could see it. Not anymore. Days and days I have been waiting for the notebooks in my Android to download. Maybe next month will be the one when I finally get to see everything. 3. Is it faster (to do what you want to do)? If not, then it probably isn't worth it. The entire app is slower (on iOS and Android). I don't see how that makes it more productive. My notes aren't downloaded, so that slows me down. I have to tap more to edit notes. That is definitely not speeding things up. And, now we have a home screen to tap through as well. It's as if Evernote re-designed the app to be slower to use. If anyone is still around reading this, I'd suggest re-thinking how resources are prioritized and getting back to some of the core features of the app that have kept some of us around all of these years. Search, for example, is one of the most important features of the app for me (on OSX, Windows, Android, and iOS). Sometimes it has worked better than other times over the years, and we have often had long discussions about search discrepancies. I don't know about other folks, but my search results are all over the place (working with CJK, so that may have an effect). In my opinion, new search features, better search quality, and so forth will pay off more in the long run than any visual enhancements or widgety / portal screens (in general, it is never a good idea to add new screens to anything, in my opinon). OK. That's enough. I can see that Evernote has invested a lot of time and effort into developing the Home screen, and they are probably loathe to backtrack. Maybe they even think I will learn to like being slower, less productive, and irritated Until that day comes, please just give me a way to turn it off--an added benefit is that I won't be able to complain about it on the forums anymore!

  29. For over 10 years that I have been using Evernote I have loved that you could come back fast to the notebook and note you were previously working on when opening the app. SInce the last update to v.10.8.2 you have decided that we want to start in Home when we open the app without asking us and even worst, without letting use choose if we wanted this change. Please give us the option to start the app in the latest notebook used as it has been since the start. Many of us do not use or want to use your new Home page. If you have decided to invest resources in things like Home that the vast majority of your user base didn't ask for it is your own (wrong) decision, but please don't try to shoehorn things like this into our workflow, the only thing you do is alienate your user base. It's puzzling how you dedicate resources to things like Home instead of working in really useful features like e.g., a way to create an in-note table of contents with internal note hyperlinks, something your user base have been screaming for almost since day 1 and that your competition offer years ago.

  30. Suggest: 1. Allow skip the pretty home screen and set the main view as default start screen. Allow to skip the home screen the way it was in previous version of EN on iOS and go right away to the notebooks. Most of time I need to go right to the notebooks list. When iOS reboots or the app restarts, it would start with the home screen again. 2. Give us option to have the ugly old recent menu... I don't mind the home screen, it's ok, it shows well and sells well to new users. I'm not into dashboards, like how often I need that.. but ok, it looks nice, I agree. When we talk Recent Notes in home screen, give us option to skip the chotschke home screen and go to notes list and give us a folder called Recent notes as it is on the classic version of desktop clients. If you move the Recent to Home screen because it's pretty, ok, do whatever pleases people but dont remove stuff from users who use things in a certain way ... without being absolutely absolutely sure people don't want and don't like the old ways.......... Please. Otherwise it's arrogance. Thanks. 'Nough emails to Evernote support. Never ever received any response. I guess they are busy fixing bugs. But I see progress in iOS. It sucks less. LOL

  31. Every time I freshly open up Evernote on my phone, without doing anything, a little black drop-down box says: Importing “Moodnotes app almost like an emotional record” 12 clips remaining This has nothing to do with any of my notes or account. I have never made a note that says such things. But more importantly, it immediately/automatically switches to the Moodnotes download page on the App Store. It’s driving me crazy. See attached clip. Note: No, clicking the X on the back drop-down does not stop this or prevent it from happening again. FullSizeRender.mov

  33. Dear people at Evernote, I guess you have read the comments on the Google Play App. An immense amount of the community of Android Evernote users is deeply frustrated with the recent Android upgrade. I won't start listing all the negative points which have been ruined concerning the usability we relied upon on the previous version (you can have a look at the list yourself). Can you please help us all and just go back to the previous version? We would be thankful if you just admit the mistake and do this, it would be a noble thing to do for all of these loyal customers. Or at least provide a way for people who would like to go back to the previous version to do this? Thanks very much and kind regards.

  35. Will it be possible for developers to please consider the idea of having desktop client for linux? I am a premium subscriber and I can't use many features.Only thing that I am able to do is to make larger size notes. I can't use ink notes which I desperately want to. There is no evernote client for linux. The alternatives just run the web version. Features such as making ink notes and other extended functionalities are simply absent.

  36. I am using Evernote since early 2000-something. Simple: timeline, tags, search. Data replication with USB or Network. Nice! As stand alone software. Running in wine - linux. This was working. Somehow. But working. And i loved it. Since the "modernized" version with "cloud" : the installation with wine was a alternating nightmare combined with a partly working client. Sometimes this worked mostly it was a mess but in the end I had to work it out. But I could use the notes with multiple devices and some times i could still recognize the lovely product it could be. Then this was crippled to 2 devices for free users. OK, now I pay for it. But what now? The wine installation is on some linux-clients working. On some not. The webclient is a webclient. No web no client. Browser restart. What happend?! 2020 January! - THE CEO says in https://evernote.com/blog/2020-update-progress-road-ahead/ "Yes!" there will be a linux client… But wait its 2021/03! - Where is the client? Can one find a note about it on any official statement? Some say it will be an electron-app?! Signal has one an app on linux - Electron! Even Microsoft tries to bribe me to use Teams with an Linux-electron-App?! Evernote? I am getting bored, tired of waiting and not willing anymore fixing installation problems with evernote and wine and paying for it. Making me again thinking about turning away from a once about the time nice idea. For ever.

  37. To everybody talking about a web clipper for iOS : There is NO web clipper for iOS, by any meaning of the word. WebClipper is a browser extension that only lives on the desktop browsers, with advanced clipping options. On iOS there is the option to share a web site to EN, by the share menu. If EN is not listed when you click „share“ from Safari, first check the 3-dots icon at the Right end of the share icons. Sometimes it is in there, and just needs to be activated. If not, switching the iPhone (iPad) completely off and on again is said to help. For a more advanced clipping option (similar to the simplified clipping in web clipper) there is an iOS shortcut „Share web Page with EN“. Initially it did not work with v10, but it is back.

A Linux client would definitely keep me here. I really have no desire to learn a new program and go through the tedious work of importing all my notes. I wish we had some kind of time frame on this. It would be a real kick in the shorts if they abandoned the idea.
