  3. Just out of curiosity: Isn't this out of focus at this place? Can't we be just happy that there is at least one new feature which delivers at least a little bit of additional value to v10 and follow these questions at other threads? Let's better just do it step by step and topic by topic...

  4. @tavor Not sure what EN's focus is at the moment other than remediating a dumbed down product in a standardized programming language. Hard to fathom that this, as you put it, slow motion train wreck could be anywhere in the neighborhood of what they expected to achieve. They've managed to miss the mark in quality and content, no mean feat. Add lack of communications and you have the trifecta! Still hoping they can fix this thing. Meanwhile 6.25.1 is running sweet

  5. I'm glad to see we're having a mature, reasonable discussion about this... Just to restate the obvious - Evernote had (as far as we know) no way to provide nested notebooks up to the present. They've never said they won't do it - just that they can't with the coding structure that was only replaced a few weeks ago. Given that the previous public version had a whole range of features that were dropped for the relaunch and are now (mostly) being added back with each revision on a 2-week timescale, it may be some time before they're in a position to start adding new major tricks.

  6. But isn‘t this what we were talking about here the last hours as potential EN strategy? Just how to deliver enough values and „unique selling points“ for new users and non power users to change from basic to premium? This surely is no big thing or game changer for power users and no reason to upgrade to v10, but it is still a step forward in development.

  9. Thanks - it looks like finally things start to get moving. Sure I prefer to discuss how to employ new features instead of missing ones. Anyhow I hope that rolling out known features we are waiting for will happen side by side with new functions like this home dashboard. But again: Nicely done, cool look & feel, pulling together what will do to make my day.

  10. I'd be surprised if anyone believes Evernote has a focus at the moment... I did a little side research via ProductHunt: https://www.producthunt.com/discussions/do-you-use-notetaking-apps-which-one-would-you-suggest-and-why and Evernote still seems to be at the top of the list even for the most recent comments. The changes may have been traumatic for those of us who use the app as an essential part of our workflow - and didn't think to sidestep the update when it first arrived - but for the general run of user it seems OK. Evernote made some mistakes (which is like saying 'oops' af

  14. I don't think Electron is the problem. EN's rollout of v10 was a disaster, but there are well received Electron apps, such as Visual Studio Code. I'm using Joplin (also Electron as you note) and like it. For cross platform note apps, unless you are content to stay in Apple's walled garden, you will be hard pressed to avoid Electron. EN moved to Electron because they could see the writing on the wall. Maintaining disparate codebases for each platform while your competitors are using a unified codebase is a losing strategy. I think the root of the problem is EN's approach to QA of their sof

  15. After the latest update I get the above error message when trying to access my notes. It happens with most notes most of the time. Not every not all the time but most of the time. I deleted the AppData Evernote folder and uninstalled/reinstalled the program, the error still exists. No other problems on my laptop. Please fix ASAP or refund the $70 dollars as I am not able to use the product as advertised, so why should I have to pay?

  16. I totally agree with the previous post : I have been using the Evernote Mac version for the past 4 years, and tabs are an essential part of my workflow, tabs and the possibility to open multiple, fully fledged, Evernote windows. Having them disappear will have a negative impact on how I use Evernote on a daily, if not hourly, basis.

  19. Thank you PinkElephant for your comments. Well I liked the simpleness of Scannable and the great integration into EN. But with your explained history of the roots of scannable and that it might not be further developed it seems for me a good advise of yours to change to another scanner app. Thanks again!

  20. Since you are not paying for anything you use, EN could put everything on your screen upside down, and it would still not be ridiculous. Just bad marketing, probably, but nothing more serious. It is very simple: EN sets the rules under which the free model can be used. You may think they are too tough, but how shall they ever sell a subscription if they allow any type of use just like that ? If your use case includes using EN from different devices again and again, you fit one specific feature of the Premium plan, which is unlimited devices. You must not be happy about the consequenc

  22. The dashboard itself and ONE pinned note on that dashboard are new. The rest exist in the old screen UI or saved searches or shortcuts. All of which require no more than one or two clicks if one is still using the classic stuff. It may help newbies I suppose who haven't developed their own workflows or someone who wants to see all the actual bits at the same time for some reason. It seems to be a jump off page wherein you can't edit anything on the page other than maybe(?) the pinned note. Waiting for 10.7 now.

  23. @mikefinleyco Probably you should rethink your position. You remember me of these thinkers of old age, that thought because they exist, the whole universe must rotate around them. Was proven wrong, just in case you were on sick leave when this was treated at school. Everybody who joined EN joined a „no-notebook-nesting“ service. Obviously many did employ it with success, building sound structures with the building blocks offered to them. One can get the impression a few others failed to do so, and are now bitching around they need nesting and hierarchy to serve their linear way of th

  24. Great ! First new feature for EN since I don’t really remember. I am sure this will be a winner ! It is positioned to turn a data hoard into a real productivity machine. I think we will need a while to explore its abilities, and how to apply it to personal setups and preferences. How to GTD this ?

  25. I think you're right that valuation is very important, and I believe that they may have planned for and expected some short-term churn on Premium subscribers with the transition to a brand new software platform in v10. Where we (perhaps?) differ is that I believe Premium subscribers are extremely important, as valuation of freemium software like Evernote is based on paying subscribers and the conversion rate from free to paid. So, while they may have been willing to briefly tolerate some declining metrics related to paid subscribers towards the end of 2020 and perhaps very early 2021, the

  28. With browsers there is another variation: There are basically 3 "engines" behind the browsers. The largest is Blink, that drives Chrome and Chromium based browsers. Then there is the engine from Mozilla (Firefox), and the WebKit from Apple (Safari, plus all browsers on iOS devices). Any web based application uses browser capabilities. So if it does not work with one browser, try another one, if possible one based on another engine.

  30. @PinkExlephant – EN Edition Scanner: Oh this is good news! I had already the firmware changed to ix500. If I remember correctly: I had to install ScanSnap but besides this addition the scanner continued to work perfectly. I didn't know that this was the only difference. Thank you also for the alternatives for local notebook. I will investigate them. Yesterday I experienced another disappointment with the new version. It turned out that some of my PDFs are lost in the new versions!! Not all of them und luckily they are still available on the legacy version. I do not know if this is a

  32. You could do this by using a third party app - Filterize - which can reassign new notes to an appropriate notebook (amongst many other things). Create your note from the template and save. Filterize checks the note when saved and - triggered by a standard tag or title - moves it to the Logs notebook.

  33. I'm not - it was a terminally stupid move to treat the new version as a General Release. Evernote should have made it a public beta for users to opt in if they were prepared to risk it. However they have rewritten things from the ground up and are on version 10.5 only 8 weeks or so after v10.0... Another 8 weeks might see some real changes - and some users are already saying that the new version is pretty good, though I have no intention of giving it a try as yet. Since the cure for most of what ails the new version is just to switch back to the old one, I see no reason for all

  34. Tags are great, but they have a tendency to grow out of bounds. Near duplicates, homonyms & synonyms, typos etc. And then this great new area of interest, that collects dust after the tag was applied to only a few notes. Others are asking to be nested. My experience is I need to clean out a little bit every few months to keep tags focussed. For this a tag management is necessary, not only the ability to write words behind an identifier. With the EN tag manager it does not take long to do the housekeeping job. This makes tags more valuable in information retrieval.

  35. Evernote 10.6.8 build (2238), Windows 10 When I press F3 anywhere, the tag element at the bottom highlights stating "Type to add" but the keyboard focus is not there so typing does not result in a tag being added. Menu "Note -> Edit Tags (Alt+Ctrl+T)" when clicked as menu item works, but the keyboard shortcut doesn't when I am in an editor I get a weird symbol (this one: þ). When I am not editing but selected a note, nothing pops up. I am using keyboard ENG - United States (International).

  36. I am very happy to see that new Evernote Windows app has been updated to display tags in alphanumeric order. I realize that many are clamoring for the ability to sort by tag and I do not see that capability provided as yet. The return-to-old-Evernote improved ordering is true in two places, (1) the note listing by title, where tags appear in their own column, and (2) the note content, where tags appear at the bottom of the note. This was not true when the New Evernote 10 debuted, but I noticed it was now corrected to be sorted rather than be in the order entered. Per the "Help / Abou

  37. Local notebooks: Alternatives are DEVONthink and Apple Notes (both Mac/iOS only) EN Edition Scanner: Not supported any longer, which means exactly this firmware. You can download the standard ix500 firmware from Fujitsu and convert the Edition scanner into a normal ix500. This is supported. You can not undo this, once converted, it stays an ix500 (which is a good scanner, and allows to create scan jobs to scan directly into EN).

  38. Still broke. Sweeeeeet. The workaround I have found (aside from having to give up and use the web application), is to manually search for a note that you know is in the notebook that will not load, and then open the note. For me, this seems to allow me to access that notebook. However...this causes other notebooks that may have been working, to no longer work. So you can constantly search for notes to try to trick the software into working. Astounding user experience, Evernote!

  39. This should be a no brainer and is amply discussed in the forum as a how-to since it was removed. It used to be possible to sort notes by tags. The logic would be that tags are sorted consistently anyway, so sorting for them enables using Evernote with tags for GTD, which used to be a hugely popular and highly productive option. There are websites and blogs galore, teaching people how to do this efficiently. Sorting for date created or edited makes Evernote treat notes like documents, at that point I might as well use Word documents - no reason to pay then. Might even bring it as a paid

  41. I get that. My concern is that by caving to the notebook mob, EN will de-emphasize tags. And indeed, that seems to be the case per Ian Smalls comment re: 2% and the rearrangement of the v10 window to put tags at the bottom. It's possible they may continue in that line and possibly eliminate nested tags, which I think is a feature many competitors do not have. For us tagaholics, nested tags is important for creating structure. I knew that back in the Libin era when the gospel of tagging was sung from the rooftops, us tagaholics should have driven you notebook heathens out with pitchforks!

  44. Hi. You don't mention whether this is Mac, Windows or mobile, but have you tried stepping back to the last public version? v10 is pretty much a skeleton so doesn't display much, but if your data still exists within Evernote (or you have a usable backup) you may find the Legacy versions are the best place to stay for a while...

  46. Creating mind maps is one of the most consistent questions by Evernote users. I would love to be able to find new ideas from the notes I have created and kept. Using a well established map making service would get this done. Which is why I suggest Evernote to acquire through M&A 'The Brain' if they are willing to sell. I haven't been using it for a long time, but I can see that it's a seamless experience on par with Evernote, and get the company to meet the customer goal for mind mapping without internal development and other assets and priorities already on the roadmap.
