  1. I have lots of lists using the old checkbox feature and I especially like that the text does not change to strike-through after checking the checkbox. After upgrading to v10.4.4, Evernote for Windows keeps automatically switching my check box lists to checklists and changes all text to strike-through for checked items. This happens anytime I press enter anywhere in any of the items on any line. It is impossible to add a new line anywhere - in the middle, at the end, ANYWHERE, without the list getting switched to a checklist. PLEASE allow us to disable this new "feature". I can understand how some people might like checklists and I may even use them too, but please do not automatically assume that every list I have needs to get switched to a checklist. If I start with a list of check boxes, keep it that way. When I press enter for a new line, I want a check box on the new line, not everything switched to checklist. If I create a checklist, then keep it a checklist - that's fine. Just do not automatically switch everything to checklists.

  3. Hi All Is there any way to stop Auto updates? Im getting them often and don't want them. I'm using an Imac. Thanks in advance

  4. Yes, this could be the right interpretation. In fact there are very many issues and complains with the rather unified iOS versions. With Android there are a couple of additional problems to face by EN. Unlike with iOS there are many different branded Android versions. Technical equipment often isn‘t as strong and high end as on apple products. issues with battery drain, memory consumption and low performance may be much bigger with Android than with iOS... I am having an (upper class) Android mobile. And I have experience with every v10version on my iOS ipad 2019 since 17th September 2020. I am not very eager to try out Evernote v10 on my mobile until EN gets things fixed and running smooth. Don‘t want to take part in another worldwide life-betatest with my well working Android mobile...

  5. What are you even trying to say? As I understand you don't even use any android device, so it's fine for you as it is regarding android Evernote v10 release situation and we android users should be happy, because iOS v10 release was even worse?

  6. You're welcome. I'm hoping that it deals with multiple issues - many of which existed in the legacy version. Lot's of folk who were anxious to keep some data more secure didn't rate the encryption in v6.25 very highly. My proof of concept allows all the encryption/decryption to take place off-line plus it allows the editing in place that v10 has lost. Of course, a fully worked out process baked into the EN v10 client would be better. But for those who wish to use v10 and avoid the issues that have been identified I hope what I've tested will be a good second best. Actually I'm quite enamoured with it and may well continue into the future - but then I would say that wouldn't I 😇

  7. +! — not only are there no MacOS app settings to turn automatic updates on/off, but the autoupdate code checks every day and if it finds none, proceeds to display an annoying "You're up to date!" dialog message EVERY DAY, interrupting whatever it is that you're doing. What about displaying a message ONLY when it updates? What a wreck of a new version.

  8. It's unbelievable how such a good product can turn into such a bad thing that it induces a customer from years of using the product and the platform to start a process of mass migration of their data to the competition. How can a company do not make a market research, a survey among its loyal customers about what they expect or not from a new version. To me, if Evernote continues like this, it really died. And there it is to look for alternatives to other products, which maybe don't have all the features of Evernote but at least they don't charge us for what they can't offer, different from Evernote which keeps charging and at the same time has removed crucial functions for me. Let's go to the list of CRUCIAL functions that have been removed, and that for me disfigure the whole product: - There is no way to change the color of lateral toolbar from Dark. - There is no way to put shortcuts list in the top of screen. It will not move anymore - There are only FIVE Fonts. For me that store computer code in the notes, it is A TERRIBLE choice - Desktop App is a web based one, and notes are not synchronized anymore. Just turn off your Ethernet adapter and the program will not show notes anymore. The proof is that you are able to show "developer options" that show a web page render in the right side of the screen. Another proof is you can use the old classic version side by side with the new one, so the new version 10 is not using the database files that is stored locally. - I can't change the Interface Language. I like to use English Interface, since I can have a lot of info in foruns instead to get translated the Brazilian version to English one. - I can't create a Notebook inside the Notebook stack as I always did. You need to first create the Notebook, then move it to stack - I can't grab a screen capture anymore - I can't Paste text directly to Evernote note (CTRL+shitf+V) anymore - I can't import a folder anymore - I can't un-stack a Notebook from a stack using right click mouse. I need to drag an drop them. - I can't narrow a search inside a specific Notebook or Notebook Stack. Please, if you noted some another missing feature, feel free to contribute to this list.

  11. I have just installed and signed up to Evernote. My first impressions are positive, but I am really infuriated by the lack of consideration shown to technical/specialist people like myself (scientist), and others who regularly use words not found in any general dictionary. I have spent far too much time searching for ways to deal with those stupid red squiggles !

  12. Is there any way to change the background color of the interface from white to something else? I was very excited to see the Evernote Clearly interface because you could click the lamp and change background of the page! However when I realized the page could not be saved that way in Evernote, I was very disappointed. As we may all know the intense white background on most interfaces is a doozey on our vision, so anything to assist in improving that would be a huge plus. Maybe the ability to change the white background to light grey or dark grey background with black text, or black background with white text, etc... On the upside I rely on Evernote HEAVILY for work, home, everything, in short this app RULES! Thanks in advance for any input or responses...

  14. +1 x100 for this one... I hate that any time I use a link to a Google Doc or Google Sheet it converts to an icon that looks like an attachment. That provides ZERO utility for me.... also, it causes issues when I use anchor text for the links... initially it will appear the way it should, but if I cut and paste the text it loses the anchor text and expands the link to Google Sheet to this stupid icon. PLEASE FIX this

  16. I too am disappointed about the fanfare release of EN10 for Android and now the slow roll-out. I would like EN to be more honest about any hitches which are hindering the roll-out otherwise my annual Plus subscription is due in May and I am reading encouraging reviews about Nimbus Notes with it's EN import function.

  17. Dear and dear Evernote lovers ❤, I'm Bruno and I've been using Evernote a lot since 2016. I participated in some problems that the application had for Windows / Android (such as synchronization error, bug, etc.), I saw claims that the Evernote design was unified, the migration to the google cloud platform, among others. I am faithful to the Great Elephant 🐘 Some time ago I migrated my files to OneDrive due to the Microsoft 365 productivity suite and I use university services from the company Dropbox. The Evernote app currently has a shortcut to Google Drive - and for me, it's not useful. In that sense, I wanted the possibility to integrate Evernote with other clouds, as well as hide / show the options. For example, I would hide Google Drive and integrate OneDrive and Dropbox.

  18. Don't know if there are specific links - my use case is kind've specific in that I have 50,000+ notes and around 300 notebooks and lots of rules about which note goes where. My family are not overly technical or organised and if it should happen that I'm not around to explain where (forinstance) the user guide for the continuum transfunctioner is filed, they probably would never find it. So the names of all my notebooks are in Workflowy, with explanations of what goes in there. It's a full 'family user' guide (which is easier to access) with links to notebooks like |UserGuides which lives in Evernote. Likewise I have a long list (50 or so) of twitter tags for a website I help administer which is easier to edit and copy from in WF - under the notebook name of that particular project. If you are planning to use WF to any great extent you should have a look at WFx* -which adds shortcuts and keystroke commands- plus there are various apps that are available - including a clipper. * Wfx Chrome - https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/wfx-for-workflowy/jbehgpdjkcconnaagjhddddfdajbpfhi

  19. iOS clipping never was great, now it is less so. There is a workaround using share, print, create a pdf and share this into EN. Does the job, especially when the website supports reader mode. I copy the URL into the new note to be able to go back to the web if needed. We will see if the clipping get improved. No deal breaker for my use of EN on iOS. In general I like EN iOS v10.3, although there are still relevant missing functions.

  20. Just tested it on the latest iOS version. Download is still a joke. Just kicked off a notebook with 252 notes in it - the enex export is about 30 MB. Copying that on a 100 MB/sec FTTC connection should take a few seconds. Still waiting 5 minutes later, and it looks like it will probably take at least 50 minutes.

  21. There are a lot of folks unhappy with v10. Some are trying other apps and some are using the legacy version while waiting to see if v10 develops into something they can use. There are already many other threads on this topic. The alternatives all have trade offs. You will need to do the research to see which will work best for you.

  23. Your expectations are, of course, perfectly reasonable. Which is why their poor communications about some of the missing features was doubly troubling. No one expects an upgrade to be a downgrade. I've been a position where we added code to make future changes possible. It slowed everything down. That sucked. It was the right business decision and wouldn't pay off for over 12 months. They have to make a business decision whether it's worth it to lose some folks for a greater purpose. They may have miscalculated the extent, but I think they made that decision.

  24. I run a company that interfaces with Evernote. I can attest that people leave and return all the time. I have the data logs to prove it not to mention dozens of conversations with clients. Whether Evernote will benefit from losing the most aggrieved customers is a total unknown. However, it is common for companies to not pursue a strategic opportunity to grow for fear of alienating a small, but vocal group of long-term customers. That tension exists all the time. Evernote is smart enough to know that as long as it's viewed as "note-taking" software, it's future is limited. They have fought against that label for a long time and I would guess that most of their best customers don't think of it as just note-taking software. I don't. That said, they may want to move in a direction that clarifies that (hopefully not with Work Chat), but that new direction may bother some. For the record, I don't think that's the major issue here. I think the major issue here is some of the compromises needed to create a unified base across platforms given the limitations of the tools available. Combine that with the limitations of beta testing such widely used software and POOR communications.

  25. Hi, signed up to add my complaint. Not saying free users should get this behavior but I'm particularly unhappy as a paid user. I thought evernote is suppose to help me focus on my ideas and not distract me with features coming 'soon'

  26. @Shane D. appreciate your answer. Can we get more help from Evernote? First posts regarding this issue are from November so it's a known problem for at least two months now. Workaround to remove temp data folder does not solve problem permanently but for some random period of time.

  27. I'm sitting back, using my v7.14 Mac version of Evernote Premium which I managed to block from updating on two Macs and a Macbook Pro. I'm reading the continuing stream of complaints about v10 on all platforms (I have v10 on my iPhone and iPad unfortunately) and this has been going on now for months. Yet STILL version 10 is broken. It is missing features and functions that are present and working perfectly in v7.14. So once again, I have to ask the question: WHY does Evernote not just admit that they screwed up, pull ALL version 10s from all sources (App Store, web site, etc) and replace them with working previous versions? Then they can take their time to do proper beta testing (or even alpha...!) without upsetting and losing so many paying customers. The rewrite using Electron is a massive step backwards, despite what the coders seem to have told Ian Small, and they obviously don't actually use Evernote much, if at all, and it would seem that neither does Mr Small. Go back to what was working perfectly, get rid of the predatory definition of the web version of Evernote as one of the devices which stinks of desperation to make more money, and up your support game to respond to paying customers within 24 hours, NOT 10-14 days...! This entire disastrous release is going to be the step that starts Evernote on the downhill slide to extinction. Stop it now while you still have customers!

  31. Completely agree. I like the new checklists (mainly because of the ease of reordering by drag and drop) but if I want a check box at the beginning of a line I should be allowed to have one! It would also be nice to choose whether to strikeout the text. If you are not aware from other posts the workaround is to put a space before the checkbox. So <space>[] inserts a checkbox at the beginning of a line, that doesn't change to a checklist when you hit enter. You will need to add it at the beginning of every line though.

  32. Chiming in on this as someone who has used Evernote for 10+ years, longtime subscriber who let theirs lapse, and now considering a switch. Markdown is the industry standard for technical note taking. Between Bear, Notion, Dropbox Paper there are so many other options that do this right. Please add proper markdown support soon.

  35. Local notebooks have been removed. This is a ridiculous and infuriating decision that has caused me to move away from Evernote. You might want to look at using Joplin, which was designed as an open-source Evernote alternative. I strongly recommend using Open Source software, as this avoids exactly what Evernote has just done: holding your personal data hostage in a proprietary format and forcing you to pay in order to use it again. https://joplinapp.org To get your local Evernote data back, download the Legacy version from here: https://help.evernote.com/hc/en-us/articles/360052560314-Install-an-older-version-of-Evernote . Then select all notes, export them, and import them into Joplin.

  36. Yes. I feel the same way. Presentation Mode is why I pay Evernote Premium. For me, making notes into presentations is one of the best features this app had. Now I'm looking for other alternatives to present my notes and the migration process from Evernote to another app is painful and costly. I think Evernote must take this into consideration. There are many people like me who build their workflow using the feature and now it looks like all that work is lost.

  37. Agreed- presentation mode is absolutely invaluable in the classroom and is the only reason I still use Evernote. Please restore it

  38. I just got a new MacBook Pro (running macOS 10.15.17) and I'm doing a clean install of all my applications. This time around, I downloaded Evernote directly from the website — instead of through the App Store like I did on my last machine. This morning, the first update for Evernote came out since I got my new computer. And it downloaded the new version right away — without asking me first. Now the first time I opened the app, it asked me if I wanted to install the update. And I clicked no. But then the second time I opened the app, it just installed the new update without asking me again. I do not want to automatically download or update my apps. (The last thing I need is a buggy update coming up in the middle of the workweek, when I don't have time to troubleshoot. Which is why I batch all my software updates manually for the weekend.) But I've looked everywhere, and I don't see a way to change the settings in the Mac version of Evernote (10.3.6). My Google searches came back empty. And the only thing that shows up on the preferences pane is "Save Data at Log Out." So is there a way to turn off automatic updates for the version of Evernote available for download from their website that I'm missing? If not, what is the best practice for switching from the direct-download version of Evernote to the version from the App Store? EDIT: Ignore the last question, I found the answer to that here.

  39. Currently there seem to be two main strategies: Move away to other apps or use legacy EN apps until v10 gained maturity. Both are in fact playing with the future, the first by switching to often smaller, less established competitors (or large ones with a history, like MS), the other with the ability of the EN team to get things fixed and improved. Personally I am currently fine with using legacy. Where I transitioned (iOS) I was positively surprised by the latest release 10.1. Not yet there (or even close), but moving to a stable and feature-rich app.

  40. If you by some reasons willing to try some Evernote alternatives this is a list with the best of them. The legend: T.ransition. App has a transition mechanism from Evernote (e.g. *.enex import with metadata). O.S. App works and can sync between all OS (e.g. Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, iOS). H.ost. The app can be used with self-hosted storage for notes in a case if development been stopped or cardinally changed the view of the product. R.ich. App has a rich editor that means you can add pictures, docs, links, change fonts, lists. F.iltering. App has extensive filtering and searching mechanism (e.g. "-tag:A tag:B any: tag:C tag:D todo:False") S.earch. The app can search all text in notes and attached documents. M.anaging. App has some tools for managing tags if you have many of them (e.g. trees of tags, a separate window for tags). C.lipper. App has a browser clipper and a snapshot tool. V.iew. App has a cards view like Old Evernote has and simple separated window for one note. E.xport. The app can export and import the database in a format comparable with other note-taking apps. B.ig. The app can handle large amounts of notes at once (e.g. moving, changing tags, merging, deleting). P.rivate. App has encryption or some private solutions that prevent developers from reading your content. So if you see these letters UPPERCASE, it means the app has a feature; otherwise, it doesn't. In the beginning, all letters will be lowercase. If you see all letters lowercase and the app name doesn't have a link, it means I haven't checked this app yet. 43. You destroyed Evernote with this new version. Why don't you think twice about ***** people's lives? Everything that has changed has changed for the worse. I have been using it since 2012. The worst version ever. The slowest and dumbest.

  44. I have to contradict @darioangelo : There may be extreme heavy users like @MvdH for whom an external tool for GTD would be more efficient. But many users like me, who use GTD only for private or for a freelancer task management, EN was the perfect application so far. I find it extremely advantageous that I can organize and link all my data (information storage, document storage, GTD task management) in one single tool. I have access to all my data and tasks, regardless of whether I am sitting on a Windows PC, an Android mobile phone, an iPad or a third-party PC using EN web. That is the great strength of EN, that (almost) everything can be managed in one tool and linked together. Now, with Evernote 10, workflows that have been used for years are completely broken for many people like me (or will be broken as soon as the EN legacy version gets switched off). But we are the paying premium and business customers that Evernote shouldn't put off! Therefore I think it is absolutely essential that EN brings back most of the functions of the previous Windows version of EN! I may add (and this list is not yet complete): ..., side list view with freely definable and sortable columns (e.g. tags), save the sorting for each saved search / notebook / tag, shortcut toolbar, view all notes in all subordinate notebooks by clicking on the notebook stack, ability to click on several tags (or a combination of notebook/stack and tags) while holding down the Ctrl key (causes an AND operation, e.g. show all notes with tag X in notebook stack Y) import folders, keyboard shortcuts for creating new notes (while working in other applications), colored tags / saved searches for a better overview, ... ?

  45. To stop the clipper (in Windows): 1) Exit Evernote 2) In Windows Task Manager kill the Evernote Clipper task that is running Now to stop clipper running ever again... 3) Run regedit and in Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Evernote\Evernote\StartEvernoteClipper set this to 0 This will stop Clipper starting up when you start Evernote for windows. I have also attached this as a .reg file that you can download and just click on to run if you dont want to manually set the setting value to 0. 4) Run windows task manager -> Start-up tab -> RMB on Evernote Clipper and set it to disable. This is to stop Evernote clipper from starting on windows startup. This works as of Evernote 6.18.4.8489. Note: Every time Evernote updates you might want to check that they havent reset some of these settings and Clipper is not now starting up again. NOTE TO EVERNOTE DEVELOPERS (from a developer): Forcing the user to always have clipper running is pretty bad practice and there should be an option to easily stop it from running. Why? Cos the clipper hijacks so many key combinations at a system level probably without the user knowing. Why do I want to not have clipper running in the background? I (like millions of others out there) use Microsoft Visual Studio in combination with Resharper and the key combination shortcuts conflict with each other and because Evernote has hijacked the key combinations at a system level it stops certain key combinations from working in Visual Studio. 46. Agree! A feature request for 3 years !? It is ridiculous!
    1 point
  47. Excellent. This feature is a direct improvement to the "mobility" of Evernote and would replace the need for bookmark management applications like Pocket (www.getpocket.com). Evernote is WAY more powerful than Pocket, yet developers have crippled the usability of "tagging" web clips by not enabling custom tags on iOS devices. Bookmark management on iOS (using Evernote) is critical for research/student needs/general personal interests.

  49. Nobody knows why things aren't on the new version. Not knowing is an intrinsic part of the Evernote experience. The default mode for this forum is: Detect a problem/lack ------> comment on it -------> live in permanent hope. We users live in a state of chronic ignorance. We are like cave dwellers searching the skies for the arrival of a comet.
