  1. It's nice Evernote checks for updates every day now it seems, but why do they have to pop up this dialog box requiring a click every day? I see no setting to control this, is there one? Is there a way to stop this? Thanks!

  2. I have recently moved my 15,000+ notes and tags to joplin. Currently just stored on my Windows laptop but looking at various sync options to be able to access from Android and Linux devices. Joplin does store everything locally, contrary to what @tavor said. It is stored in a SQLite DB, at least on my Windows boxes. The nice thing about having it in this open format is that I can examine it, write scripts against it, back it up - all without using proprietary tools like EN's. I use JetBrains DataGrip but SQLiteStudio looks really nice also. And of course what others have said - Joplin is open-source, has a nice RESTful API, and supports plugins very well.

  3. Yep, me too. Maybe I'm lucky in that Evernote for Android and the web are perfectly usable for me (and I'd even go as far as to say already better than the old apps). But there are things that I miss for example widgets and bulk operations. The important thing for Evernote at the moment as I see it is to keep up the momentum. They've had a huge 2 years: looking after the old apps while migrating the entire back end infrastructure and writing a totally new client in a (for them) new technology. If they can keep up this progress, imagine where they'll be at the end of 2022

  4. Last days, I've been testing Joplin import of my full database (3700 notes). At a certain point I got an import problem for a single web clip note, due to an inconsistent Enex file (invalid XML). I reported this problem on the joplin forum and within 10 minutes, the Joplin author asked me some info, and after less than half an hour, he worked around the enex problem and released it, problem solved 🙂 If I would have asked evernote to fix the root cause, the invalid XML in the ENEX generator or web clipper, it would probably take a couple of months... In the mean time, he's still improving the import of web clipped notes. He's now at the point that these clipped notes looks sometimes better in Joplin than in EN. All this progress in a few days... Also interesting to know, Joplin is built on electron too, exactly the same platform as EN V10. So there is still hope for EN, performance shouldn't be an issue...

  6. On Dec. 16 staff member Austin G wrote If this blank notes issue continues after updating to 10.5 please let us know: If the issue impacts all notes in the account. Check to verify if it occurs with notes in different notebooks If the about page is blank. Select: Help > About If selecting File > Quit, (not the X icon) and reopening Evernote fixes the issue I'm using Windows 10 and running Version 10.5.7 Build 2171 Public, which as of this moment is the latest version available to download. The answers to Austin are Yes, Yes, and Yes. This has been going on for weeks now. Why did this suddenly become a problem when you had perfectly good software before you updated it? I can't believe you're charging nearly $100 a year for this service and a) you let this major bug slip through your pre-release testing and b) you're taking this long to fix a program that has become virtually unusable. This is intolerable.

  7. Default fonts: There does not appear to be a way of changing the default fonts in a new note, is this correct, can it be reintroduced? Templates: Using a template to create a new note with previously applied styling saves time. However, if you add new text fields to the note they do not honour the template and revert to the original preset parameters. Is this correct, can this be reintroduced?

  8. I'm glad I can now open the Quick Note window using a global keyboard shortcut (Ctrl+ Command + N). But once it is open, I'd like to continue using keyboard to control the window. There are few missing features: keyboard shortcut for "Convert to note" button - I would expect Command + Enter to work here key to close the Quick Note window - I would expect the ESC key to work here close the Quick Note window automatically after it has been converted to note I really miss the ability to quickly create a new note while I am working on something else, without raising my hands from the keyboard and then just continue working. This is how it worked with the old version of Evernote and it was great.

  9. Hello Evernote staff, I would like to know how to disable spell check because in my note I have large amount of techinical terms and evernote seems to not knowing them. In the previous version, I can do it by choosing edit → spelling → disable spell check. Thank you so much

  10. OK there are several issues with the new version, I think they were listed earlier.. slowness, can't find notes. Wondering when is the update coming to fix things. I already removed and reinstalled and still same. I do like the design of the new iOS app, but if this is the way the developers are going to release the apps, without proper testing, I am going to say they need to go back to school.

  11. Yesterday my system told me my C drive capacity is low...after installing V10 !!! My system drive has 120GB and it had about 25-30GB free space yesterday. Evernote used to be able to save its database on the other drive to avoid problem like this. However, I found NO WAY to change database location setting in the preference in V10. I notice that in V10 it's no longer call database anymore. I wish we can again have a setting to relocate the cache (or database) to a users' preferred location.

  12. Glad to hear they did so for at least one user. I can also report that they have not (yet?) fixed any of the bugs that I reported, which is quite frustrating. Hoping to see a new release with improvements in January.

  13. Totally agree. Sell people o something that is supposed to help them and then periodically just scramble th UI so it takes them out of their comfortable place. As with most apps, change for changes sake and not thought out from the perspective of people that are paying the bills. As an Evernote Premium for last 7 years, it has lost what attracted me to it in the first place. I have till April or May before I pay my annual, but right now I'm leaning toward leaving.

  14. Hi everyone, Thank you for your helpful comments! Using AppCleaner to fully uninstall, and then reinstall did the trick. Thank you @PinkElefant for this tip. Must have been a corrupted preference file or something like that. Good to know there is such a helpful community out there! 🙂 Best, Sander

  15. I decided to try out the new Android version by downloading an APK file and loading it manually. The new version for Android is OK but, as others report, it lacks some function such as the widget and so forth. (Ishould say that web clipping is better than in the older version.) This is an experiment for me. I think I will probably revert to the older Android version and await the release of version 10 to me. I'm not troubled by a slow release of the app. I'd rather have it working. What I pay for is not a newly released app but a working app that does what I need. For safety sake I have retained a copy of the version 8 APK so that I can use that should version 10 be released and not working as I need.

  16. See arguments above - until a couple of months ago, Evernote (IMHO) did not have the technology to provide this feature - which has to work in 5 separate operating systems (and their variations) on a range of devices. Now we have v10 which is its own self contained 'operating system' - so this is now possible. With a number of features yet to be restored however I'm not sure where this will be in their priorities...

  17. Your comment on offline search on iOS is wrong, and it does not get better by repeating it over and over. I have posted the details in another thread, so I will just post a screenshot here taken after doing an offline search (flight mode) for the string „Apple“ on my iPad: 128 hits, notes found were perfectly accessible including attachments, all while still in flight mode. If you can’t search offline, you have either not yet downloaded offline content, or your installation is broken.

  18. Two things: One, make sure you are logging in with the correct account. Many people sign up with an email and then accidentally create an account with their Google or Apple accounts and then they have two accounts... Two: Once you've verified you're using the correct email address, log in to the web client at Evernote.com and see if your notes are there.

  19. Can't move, nest or edit tags on Evernote desktop client or website. (v 10.5.7 build 2171 public for Windows). Can still edit tags in Evernote Android app 8.13.3. But can't figure out how to move a tag in Android app in order to nest the tag within another tag.

  21. Blablabla ... There are plenty other companies that do not have a native ARM app out and running. Apple declares running apps on Rosetta is part of the official transition strategy, it works very well, so no harm done if it takes a little more time. THIS is not what is bugging us with EN v10 ! Instead of waisting developers capacity to serve a tiny fraction of users currently running an M1 Mac (and able to use Rosetta), I rather expect them to fix what needs to be fixed, and get the stuff all users need on the release ramp.

  24. Per Evernote's reply, it seems pretty clear that this is a known problem on their end. So not a hypothetical. This issue impacted both paying and free users. This is not about device limitations. This is about data integrity. Device limitations and feature limitations are fine. Losing access to your data is not. "We don't guarantee access to your data unless you pay up" is not a good message. However, I doubt that Evernote chose you as their spokesman.

  25. Evernote, what's the deal? Completely unable to navigate between notes. This is wildly frustrating and seeing zero responses from your team is unacceptable. Goes a long way to simply acknowledge the existence of this issue.

  28. Modern software development: forego testers, forego releases, just hire web developers to write agile constantly-updated pages, even for desktop apps. Put everything on a subscription plan, don't let people buy perpetual licenses. Everything is slower, everything is always in flux, all clients are on the latest version the web developer just pushed. It's not just Evernote, all nu-programmers are like this. Anytime you run a newly-updated app and it became much slower and less native-looking, this is what happened. The main appeal of Evernote to me was the great desktop app. Now it's another slow webapp in a desktop shell, and it lost its primary advantage over other Electron apps like StandardNotes and Joplin. (speaking for myself as a user only syncing text notes)

  29. Crosspost from Android 10 issues forum as this is both an issue (regression in functionality compared to the previous Evernote for Android) and a functionality request. Tl; DR: Evernote should use the standard Android functionality called "custom tabs" to allow sharing state with the primary browser, so that webpages remember who you are and you don't need to log in over and over and over again. Custom tabs also provide a menu option for opening a link in your main browser, which is handy in case you want to keep that link in a browser tab to reference later. There are a number of problems with how EN has implemented opening links from within the new Evernote for Android 10.0: Evernote is not leveraging standard Android functionality (i.e. Android Custom Tabs) for opening the web link. As a result of the custom solution used in 10.0, the opened link does not share state with the default browser. This means that sites which appear as "logged in" on one's default browser will ask us to log in. Again and again and again. Very time consuming and frustrating. Another side effect is there is no way to open the link in one's default browser, which is incredibly useful. I often want to toggle between a browser and more than one Evernote note and this isn't possible in the current implementation. If Evernote used the standard Android functionality (Android Custom Tabs), they would get all of the above functionality automatically.

  30. This is crazy! Why upgrade to a new version that's worse? Downgraded to the Legacy version and will continue to use that until the new version is at least at parity with the old.

  33. the launch of version 10 has been a big problem and a huge step back. I've been premium user for years and have my whole life on Evernote. It's shaken my confidence, my daily workflow is disrupted, I'm spending an inordinate amount of time troubleshooting issues, finding duplicate notes, rebooting, etc to get Evernote to work. Found a new problem today in that not all machines will run the same version. When checking for updates, one machine loads 10.4.4 the other running 10.3.7 gives me a message that it's the current version. Still having problems with blank notes coming up. The thought of changing tools is frightening, however, I can't continue to spend this much time making a 'productivity' tool productive... How long before this platform is stable again?

  35. Hey @PinkElephant - thanks for clarifying! Looks like, according to your count, I’ve got about 10 more times to “cop{y} and paste” the exact same thing (which, by the way, “t-h-i-n-g” is the only five-letter word that would appropriately fit into your usage of five asterisks 😎) — as I have yet to actually copy and paste anything. Sure, I’ve repeated some ideas, but in all actuality, and truly technically speaking — which is the issue here, the technical problems going on with EN — I have yet to copy/paste any previous comment(s). That being said, if what I have said in this or any previous post has offended you, I am sorry and do apologize. Happy Thanksgiving, all!

  37. I concur with all of the users comments regarding “Simplify formatting” and “Plain text formatting”. This is a critical feature for me to continue to use EN. It boggles the mind that those in charge of the App redesign would decide to chop such a useful feature. I hope someone on this forum can tell me that what I’ve read is incorrect and this feature remains, but is excessively disguised.

  38. This issue only started after the forced rollout of your new version 10.2. Ever since the new version of the app was rolled out, all my notes appear blank. I have quit and restarted the app 10 times. I am tried to use Evernote on the browser. All my notes are blank and won't load. When will you fix this?
    1 point
  39. I have this problem. This is NOT the first use after downloading the new version. The notes content in miniature are visible in the card view The notes content are present on the web. Re-starting the program does not resolve the problem. In Help menu, choosing "about Evernote" yields a popup with no content.

  40. Just had the same problem on 10.1 Changed a note, went to another note to check something, returned to edited note to find changes had gone. I was away from the edited note for less than 60 seconds. Back to zero confidence in this product.

  41. Thank you. I’m actually just trying to find the feature that has been there for the 9 years I’ve been using in the product. Has it deliberately been removed, I’m I just not finding its new location, or is it a bug?

  42. This is a huge problem and I am trying to figure out a way to communicate this best to Evernote's support team. Fonts no longer match between iOS and the Mac app. Literally the 6 choices on the iOS app are not options on the Mac app, so when you're using the iOS app your notes look ridiculous. You have two different fonts on lists.

  43. I totally agree with the previous post : I have been using the Evernote Mac version for the past 4 years, and tabs are an essential part of my workflow, tabs and the possibility to open multiple, fully fledged, Evernote windows. Having them disappear will have a negative impact on how I use Evernote on a daily, if not hourly, basis.

  44. Yet another egregious bug in 10.1.7 - this is becoming surreal... Ok - when I right click on a Stack or Notebook in the navigation pane I'm not getting a drop down menu - nothing happens. (My mouse is working fine) So I looked in the file menu for a rename option - nothing there. So I tried F2 - the old rename shortcut. The docs say it should still work in 10+, but nothing happens. So as far as I can tell, there is literally no way to rename any item in the navigation pane. Words cannot express ... I note that when I click the Attributions item in the Help menu nothing happens. Yet another bug, but this one is rational - if I was involved in this release I would want to hide my name too. I see that your MD has been on the media spinning the outcry as conservative users who are resistant to change. All that does is fan the flames. I've been using software intensively for decades, and this is quite literally the worst release I have ever seen. That's what we are objecting too.

  46. This is being sold as the result of Ian Small's "let's rebuild everything from scratch and make it better" policy. Since it's much glossier and has bigger type than the previous version I think it's mean to be the answer to everyone's prayers. It looks as though they got fed up with the time it would take to actually include all the functionality of the original product and rushed out the shiny shell with a couple of things that actually work. Now they're going to release 'new features' (which is going to be "much easier" because of the retooling) which I would earnestly hope are all the features they didn't include yet, because if Evernote comes out with new features that aren't the missing essentials, I think there might be a mass walk-out of super-user subscribers.

  49. It's 2019 and from my searches it appears this feature has been requested since 2014😥 Still can't add or modify a hyperlink in the android app. How hard is this? It should be a simple feature in any electronic tool. I like to have notes reference each other and am doing more and more things on portable tools like phones and tablets. Please add this feature. Without features like this Evernote is falling further and further behind giving more motivation to look at other tools.
