I've been living in a bubble, I guess and knew nothing about the "new" Evernote, and have been happily using the older version. Today it more or less forced me to upgrade to 10.4.4 and Holy $%^^ this is awful! The search seems better, but I cannot find a single other thing that I like about it. It's slow, my note fonts are suddenly HUGE, my tags no longer show the note counts, etc. etc. Went back to the legacy version which appears will only be supported for a limited time 😲 If the legacy app stops working for me I will switch to some other solution, and I have been a paying Evernote customer for 10 years! I suggest you scrap this version, restore the older one and go back to the drawing board.

I guess the thing is I have always mostly used Evernote for filing documents and webclips. With good tagging its been a very efficient tool for information storage and retrieval. Now it seems hopeless. For example I just dragged a PDF into a filtered selection of files (filtered on a tag). It took at least 20 seconds to load up and it was not even apparent when it was done as the new file did not inherit the tag as it was copied over. Previously this would have been done in less than a second. Also this morning I have been searching for invoices and payments listed under the same tag. Firstly there was a delay to view the filtered selection, then it was taking up to 30 seconds to open each file. With the previous version this would have been a process that would have taken seconds not minutes. I'm sure if I mainly used evernote for just note taking then I would be super happy, but this update seems to have killed the value of Evernote for me. I hope these are issues that are already on the developers radar and that they are addressable?

Just updated to the latest version of Evernote. Why is it so slow! Prior to this update pages opened instantly. Now its a wait so long that that is not helpful at all. I hope this is just a temporary issue - maybe the data is loading up in a new location on my HDD? If not then Evernotes usefulness to me has been significantly diminished. Also - previously I seem to remember being able to change the location of the local storage. I don't see that option anymore. Any reason for this. Evernote has for several years been a central part of my work organization and productivity - these new changes are concerning.. Any intel would be well appreciated

This new version of Evernote is almost unusable for me. Less functionality than previous versions. I've used Evernote for about 10 years. Several of the previous updates have made it slightly less functional, but this update keeps all the frustrating features of the past, adds new ones, and makes life particularly frustrating. I use Evernote mostly for archiving and tagging pdf notes and clipping webpages. Any suggestions for alternatives ?

I've been a loyal user of Evernote for many years now, eschewing the Microsoft behemoth for some more open source alternates. Evernote was a bit of a compromise, but at least it wasn't MS. So I await new developments with interest. This last one seems to be a disaster. So far I have found the following issues with Evernote 10 that render it unsuitable for my use. I use Evernote as my journal/to do lists/note taking application to pretty much manage my life, and as such ease of use is important, as is customisation and personalisation. It is the application in which I spend most of my time. And it has been brilliant. So far, after an upgrade to version 10, I find the product sorely lacking for this and am seriously considering alternatives (for Windows and Android). Even to the point of test driving OneNote, Joplin, Notion and a couple of others. Key for me is the ability to use my own fonts within the app - while I know these will not convert on Android, I deal with that. Most of my time is spent in Windows. Right now I can't even change the default font from the half dozen that are available. So, in no particular order : 1) while you have moved the ability to delete/rename/edit the notebook to the second column, why not retain it on the first column anyway? I'll live with it, but even so... 2) there are no preferences available. So I can't change my data location (might be important), defaul font, or, indeed, anything. Evernote is no longer flexible or customisable. Critical. 3) You've limited the fonts available. I use my notebooks to reflect me (as notebooks) not just to record data or clippings. So the ability to personalise fonts is hugely important for me. Critical. 4) You've introduced 'Recent Notes' on the left but with no ability to hide it - so a bit of screen real estate that limits the number of notebooks I can see at once has gone. Same for shortcuts - why can't this go back where it could be - at the top. Highly desirable. 5) You've removed right click from the LH column, but kept the drag and drop behaviour that often resulted in a notebook being moved to a stack where I didn't want it. Missing a trick there - a confirmation would be helpful! I'll live with it 6) We've lost 'Print Preview' so now the only way to preview a note is to save as a PDF via PDF writer. Critical. 7) What's more we now have a fixed format of printed note.. what if I don't WANT the header on the note ( I rarely do, and I had this turned off in preferences)? Critical. 😎 You've added an extra click to the process of viewing an encrypted note. Since the most likely reason for viewing an encrypted note was simply to view it, not remove the encryption, this should have been dealt with a different way.Highly desirable 9) Once decrypted we can't just edit the note. We have to decrypt the lot, then reencrypt it. Really hecking irritating. This is beyond disastrous. This whole release has just messed up a good product without actually adding anything of value beyond the ability to choose highlighter colour (we can do this but not choose our font?). You've stripped out some of the ease of use features and the things I actually liked. The more I use it, the more I find things that are either missing or have been made worse. So. I've reverted to 'Legacy' (a tacit acknowledgement that some users are going to be less than happy). I'm currently investigating alternatives to EverNote and will be leaving the paid programme if I don't get some assurances that these things will be fixed. Knowing that this is as good as my primary day to day application is ever going to get is a real downer. [Apologies if this is in the wrong place but you've got a very dissatisfied paying customer here, and I am not alone]

I used to be able to select all notes and export to create a backup. The Version 10.4.4 build 2096 public does not allow this. How can I export all the notes? What conceivable reason would justify not permitting a 'select all' function? To backup several thousand notes I would have to perform scores of operations. I have found maybe thirty or forty individual problems since this new software was installed.

gazumped, thanks for introducing me to Filterize. That may be the ultimate answer for me. I will definitely check it out. I'll also watch the video. I really appreciate your help. 10gallonhat, depending on what I learn from the video and Filterize, I may well use your idea. I may be able to select 50 notes at a time and paste their links into a new note I would call my new TOC. With luck, maybe Evernote will decide to fix this themselves. Again, thanks to you all. Len

Evernote Gods, PLEASE reconsider the discontinuation of the outlook clipper! While I understand that this app wasn't perfect, it allowed for a very efficient work flow. I've been a user of this product since 2013 (premium user since day 1), and the outlook clipper is a daily part of my life. Unfortunately, the other options (add in or email) are not suitable as I'm on exchange on-prem and email doesn't work great when I'm offline as well as the fact that I need to remember to go back into evernote finalize the note. PLEASE listen to your users! we want Clipper back!

However, My first impressions of this new version of Evernote are that it is not an upgrade at all, at least for the way I use it. I guess I need to be patient for a bit but for sure I'm now looking out for an alternative platform

Woohoo - a new Evernote! Lets move everything on the screen around while ensuring you still can't select your thumbnail. Come on Evernote. This is ridiculous! 2021 will be the ten year anniversary for this request!

I've been pointing people to 25guy's list of Evernote alternatives. The short answer for those happy to live in Apple's walled garden seems to be DEVONthink. For the rest of us our best choice greatly depends on the features we consider essential to our workflow. My use of tags and text formatting is rudimentary when compared to the way others here use EN, for example, so Joplin is at the top of my evaluation list. Others in this thread have found Joplin's lack of <X> to be a deal breaker and so are looking at other options. I have yet to hear of an alternative to EN that won't take some adjustment and/or compromise by the user.

So, I received a letter from support. Basically a lot of copypasted yada yada without any meaningful answers (funny, there *is* a button to focus on a single note, which I finally noticed, but I did it myself; not a word about it from support). Still, I strongly believe that all of us should WRITE TO SUPPORT and TWEET with @evernote mention about our problems with new version. Do not write just here. If I understand anything about corporations, it's the only way for public opinion to get into their reports and/or their attention. I'm not talking about spamming. Write about your way to use Evernote, be constructive and elaborate. Tell them about your existed workflows they kinda forgotten.

OMG the new version stinks and is unusable for my workflow, I'm concerned that legacy support will die off... what the alternatives? One note? this is not good.

Why why why would you change a perfectly good user interface and totally complicate it? This new version does not make it easier to create a note or to change the notebook for the note. It makes it harder. It requires more touches. There’s also a massive White space in the main note View. Who made these decisions? Why don’t you consult your user community before you did this? Evernote used to be the easiest app on my phone to use and now it is one of the most complicated. I hate the new version. In addition to this, as I have stated before, it’s absolutely unacceptable that you allow foreign devices in other countries to login to people’s account without a challenge if the evernote account owner has not enabled two factor authentication. You should never ever allow a foreign device in a foreign country to login without a challenge. Totally irresponsible and you are opening yourself up to a major lawsuit.

Need to have the multi tab feature Please. like the last version

I'm quickly trying to catch up with things right now. It seems to me that the focus will be on Evernote for the Web and not on the user's machine. But my basic issue is the same. Evernote's key reason for being is to help people stay organized with content. It allows us to put all sorts of different content in custom-designed databases for retrieval when needed. One of the chief tools to finding that content is the ability to search all our content easily. Without good search tools we are dead in the water. Imagine the Library of Congress without a searchable database or the WWW without search engines. It seems that Evernote 7.14 is not successful in using Spotlight. So for those of us who depend on that, we must do 2 searches: Spotlight and Evernote. I don't believer the new 10.0 would be able to search online and on or own machines, either. (Correct me if I'm wrong.) I lose track of where I place things so often, I am petitioning the Pope to make Waldo a Saint. It seems Evernote is abandoning a tool that is a requisite in its very existence. Evernote has been helping me simplify my life. Losing the ability to search all my content simply threatens continued progress. We are all inundated with content, so I don't think this is just my need. I hope I've jumped to some conclusions or made some incorrect assumptions. It feels like I've been in a wheelchair for years and finally found a simple crutch that lets me walk, but now that crutch is being taken away. Without the ability of being able to search all one's content easily, Evernote will no longer be needed by most customers.

If a note is opened the latest version of Evernote for Mac updates the note time stamp under "Updated" EVEN IF NO EDIT OCCURS!!! Worse, there is no longer the ability to change the update date in the note details. This is CRITICAL now that the program changes this date when the note is ONLY OPENED. I keep my notes organized by the date they are updated and DO NOT WANT that update date time stamp to get changed simply because I go back and open a note to review the note!

First, thank you for bringing back the capability to change the creation date of a note. But, there is room for improvement, please. I'm used to use copy / paste, e. g. from an email header, to set creation date AND time of a note - this was easy to do in V7 on Mac. Now, we have this good looking date and time selector. I like this approach, but need also the good old copy / paste - just try to set the creation date to July 1st, 2003 (archive a legacy document) - a lot of action needed using the mouse and the selector. Imagine how easy it is to just paste "29. Juli 2020 um 15:42:54 MESZ" into that field and you're done.

I've not been able to convert my checklist back to a list with checkboxes - probably due to the bulleted list and indenting in which it is found. It'll just be easier to live with it. If I was to create another list with checkboxes, I found you can use the "Shift-Enter" key combination at the end of each line. No need for a "space" before the checkbox.

if you browsed forums, you already know - evenote v10 is a different product - a simplified, web-wrapper for evernote web that mimics a real app - but in reality it is just a javacript web app (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electron_(software_framework))/ running in a window. I cannot be fast because it is NOT a real app.

no problem at all, I‘ve installed both on same machine - 90% of the time I run V10.

Some like it, some don’t. Now I like it, and had to live without for more than 10 years - maybe it is now your turn ??? 😱 But seriously: If you don’t like the checklist strikeout, try to use checkboxes. It easily converts any list with checkboxes to a checklist, including strikeout. But if you add a „space“ in front of the checkbox at the start of a line, it does not see it as a list any longer, and conserves the checkbox without converting it. Laborious, but currently the only workaround I know.

How is adding tags with the mobile web clipper a new feature when the mobile web clipper on iOS is gone? Along with all the sharing integration? And what are the chances of us ever getting back to 1 or 2 click functions like we used to have on versions 9 and older? The update to 10 started burying common functions in menus or requiring twice as many clicks to do the same basic things like moving notes, and now major critical features are disappearing? Am I missing something or are we moving backwards? If each update removes content and functionality, please stop updating.

Just got the 10.5 beta, still has this issue ("feature"). Coming soon lists "Global keyboard shortcuts." Maybe this will address it, or maybe they'll take over other useful shortcuts like Copy/Paste (sarcasm).

EN have separated the ability to add the date and time into two separate short cuts. As you rightly say you can add the date with alt-shift-D. You can add the current time with ctrl-shift-D

Here's a legit gripe: I upgraded today to bc was prompted to with "It's time..." Normally I'm not quick to pick up new versions but did this time. Big mistake. If they have known problems with this version, WHY are they still pushing it? Why not pause the rollout process? So many mistakes. Who runs this company? Does anyone have info on the ownership and management? SOmething has happened.

This release includes a top requested feature: top list view. Please find it in your view options menu. Additionally the view options menu has been added to search results to make switching there easier and a new column (URL) has been added for viewing note URL data via top and side list view. Quite unbelievable for an update. When did I give permission to reformat all of my notes?🤬 They were mostly in 12pt Arial, now in 16pt San Serif. It's not even an option to change them back to Arial or my chosen font. Would reverting back to a previous version restore the formatting? I use it so much, I have it pinned to the taskbar. Now even that doesn't work properly. It puts another entry on the taskbar. The only option in Tools->Preferences is "Save data at log out". Is that it?

PLEASE BRING TABS back!! I love evernote, but not tabs is a serious drawback. In reply to Evernote's CEO "we are not implementing tabs at this point... it was not a heavily utilized feature." That's because most people don't know how to use Evernote to the MAX. If they did, they would NEVER leave Evernote. It would help to add tutorial videos for this and explain WHY these features are important and how they could be used. As a Peak Performance Coach, helping people minimize COGNITIVE LOAD is key. Easy flow and movement around Evernote is KEY if we are to use it as a second brain.

Still a problem with the latest version as of this date, 10.3.6 build 2001 public Really quite terrible. You can't even override it via macOS Keyboard system preference because of the app framework they're using now (no longer Mac native).

I just found this thread because I've been searching for the tabs on and off for days now after updating to the new version. I don't want to sound unhinged but this is the worst decision. It makes the new version, I won't say completely useless, but VERY difficult for me to use. Removing functionality that seems obvious that clearly many users want and use seems like a poor decision. Again I don't want to sound like I"'m exaggerating but this seriously makes me question why I'm paying money for this and whether I should continue using or just switch to something free but that will work how I need it to work.

I totally agree with the previous post : I have been using the Evernote Mac version for the past 4 years, and tabs are an essential part of my workflow, tabs and the possibility to open multiple, fully fledged, Evernote windows. Having them disappear will have a negative impact on how I use Evernote on a daily, if not hourly, basis.

No other Windows 10 app with Dark Mode support on my PC uses large blocks of White. Because that's just painful! The only apps I have that display a white title bar when not selected are legacy apps without Dark Mode support. So while Dark Mode support is _extremely_ welcome - and I really can't overstate that - it just needs this final little tweak. Apps that support dark mode and don't have white title bars - Outlook, Office, Chrome, Firefox, Slack, OneNote, Youtube Music, Windows terminal, powershell, commmand prompt....

Thanks, but that doesn't solve the problem. I have "Title bars and window borders" unchecked for the specific reason that I do not want any window borders on any apps. I shouldn't have to modify the aesthetic of every other app on my system to fix this.

I'm a heavy user of Evernote and I'll be a reMarkable owner. It is a pity that there is no an easy integration available. I'd love having it.

I think it would be a great idea for evernote to propose an Remarkable app/ interaction. As a focused, efficient, cheap ideapad/ note taking in meetings/ pdf annotation system/ etc.

To all Guru's that keep saying the same thing about being able to do the same thing with tag. This maybe so but is not the point. Clearly for at least the last 9 Years people have been asking for the ability to nest stacks. We pay for this product and this is what we want so do it already.

I think it's obvious, at this point, that Evernote users want the ability to select the default thumbnail for notes. I agree that it seems ridiculous that this conversation started in 2013 and 4 years later this hasn't been added to the application. As a visual person, the thumbnail helps me quickly find what I'm looking for. For example, when I'm looking for a recipe for pancakes, an image of the video (pertaining to the recipe) of two cooks doesn't help me find what I'm looking for. I need to be able to select the pic of the stack of pancakes. The whole purpose for using Evernote is to be able to organize things so that they are easily found/accessed. I'm confused why this isn't already an option. This seems so simple to implement. Can we get some love on this issue?!

Yes - please, add sub-folders / categories / etc. I am getting the feeling from reading these threads that the EN people are 'refusing' to add this? Is that really true? Why would a company alienate it's user base by refusing to add a feature that so many have requested? Well, my position is simple, if I find the program a burden to use, and I will if I cannot find a way to organize things the way I am USED to organizing them, then I will simply stop using it - it wont happen right away, however small frustrations will build up over time, and inertia will take its toll. Probably will happen in about - 2 or 3 weeks I imagine. Meanwhile I am looking for a different service - or unless I can get a different feeling from the EN development team. Also - I can add this feature if they dont want to - just give me teh codez.
