  1. I've been an Evernote user back to the first beta in 2008 (user ~2400 - according to an email from Evernote). Following the fiasco which is the latest release - I've been looking around for alternatives to Evernote - Nimbus and Notion being my current testing choices. Funnily enough though, the best alternative I've found so far is Evernote Legacy. I cannot believe how the development and release process has been handled so badly for a mature product with millions of users. Relying on Evernote Legacy is not an option though - given there is absolutely no commitment to keeping it runn

  2. The new version sucks. Evernote began to consume 3-4 times more memory (more than 1 GB with 4 notes open), which is why the application slows down. The old version consumes 200-300 MB for the same number of notes. Even in the worst of times, when everyone called Evernote "the slowed-down elephant," the notebook ran faster. Side panel! Seriously? I see only a few tags on the 13-inch display instead of 20 in the old version. Do you call this "making a spacious design"? The new panel was not created to work with information. Colored tags! They made it possible to work very quickly

  3. First of all, let's not blame developers for what senior and project management failures exist in Evernote. As both a software developer and a project management professional (PMP), I can attest how projects like this play out and this is not a developer-driven collapse. I think even suggesting it is is unfair to the Evernote development team. Next, I too have been using and paying for Evernote since 2011--daily! Overall I still consider my Evernote experience positive when considering my entire history with it. That said, the past two or so years have been quite lacking--in my opinion--

  4. PLEASE, FOR YOUR OWN GOOD, GIVE EVERNOTE A CHANCE TO APOLOGIZE AND IMPROVE. I have been using Evernote since 2011, happily. The last release gives me, like many other fellow users, multiple headaches. A lot of our favorite features are gone. Some new features are not user friendly. Performance is slow. PR was poor. Yes, it should have stayed in beta mode much longer. This holds also true: Evernotes basic intentions for this total make over are legit and logical. They just had to escape the dead end street. Potentially Evernote is still the best organizer out there. I understand the anger and f

  6. Interesting to see a positive post My issue is not about the direction; imho This version should not be a GA release until issues/bugs are resolved, and missing features implemented I recommend using the legacy versions until we see a GA quality release

  7. It's unbelievable how such a good product can turn into such a bad thing that it induces a customer from years of using the product and the platform to start a process of mass migration of their data to the competition. How can a company do not make a market research, a survey among its loyal customers about what they expect or not from a new version. To me, if Evernote continues like this, it really died. And there it is to look for alternatives to other products, which maybe don't have all the features of Evernote but at least they don't charge us for what they can't offer, different f

  8. I'm under the impression from tech support that pubic notebooks have been removed from v10: "We made a decision to discontinue support for published personal notebooks, also known as public notebooks. We understand this is a feature you’ve been using and we're sorry for any changes to your workflow this may cause. Any public notebooks you currently have will continue to work with their public URL, but you are unable to create new public notebooks in the new Evernote apps." Although I can understand that this feature removal is likely because your internal data shows that this is a fe

  9. I've contributed to various threads about how the new search system works. There are however a number of issues which I, and other people, think need to be addressed beyond "it's different". This is my attempt to pull together all those issues. If I've missed anything (and I'm sure I will have done) then please post a reply. I'm hoping that the promised replacement of ctrl-Q will address some of the issues. Delay (up to 3 minutes was quoted in the beta) before changes to notes (including tags) are reflected in search Search results are not dynamic. Unlike the legacy ver

  10. Hi, Dissapointed in the new version 10.1.7 Windows client Basic features missing: - Top list viewing mode unavailable. - Sorting on tags column impossible. Besides that software feels slow and bloats. I would like to downgrade or something, this doesn't make sense and certainly doesn't make me productive. Don't fix things which aren't broken. Cancelling my automatic subscription for now. Evernote: you just lost me.

  12. I can't even begin to describe how awful the new version is. I've been a paid subscriber to Evernote since January, 2011. $5 a month. Updates have been up and down over the years, but I've generally been able to count on the app to just work. The Version 6.25 was fast, functional, and I could have lived with it for years to come. Version 10 is ridiculously terrible. I honestly can't even troubleshoot it to count the flaws because it is too FRUSTRATING to even operate. The left panel will suddenly cover up half the panel with note names so I can't see my notes, 30 seconds to load a note, c

  15. Hi. I've been an Evernote user/customer since October 2010. 10 years. I cancelled my subscription today. At some point, you just stop letting a software provider treat you like trash.I suggest everyone do the same.

  16. So I used Evernote for android Beta for a bit and as said its in Beta. It has issues expected in a beta release like Images attached do not appear as images, but rather as attachments. The app was considerably slower too, but this was a couple of weeks back. Adding Tags was especially laggy. Responses got registered with a few seconds lag. The new editor worked good and even search was ok. As you said android lacked the most features in the stable version anyways, so don't remember if any old feature got cut in the beta. All in all, it was use-able but due to the general lag I opted out of bet

  17. I have been a user for 10 years and paying for Premium or Plus pretty much the whole time. Not what some would consider a power user, but I have some set workflows that still are working just fine for the most part. I am leaning towards liking this new app and see it is a positive direction. Both the Mac and iOS versions. Are there hiccups? Yep. Can you use legacy? On Mac, yep! I am going to be patient and see how things shake out. But again I think it is making steps in the right direction. Maybe some more beta testing would have been better though. I am hopeful that they resolve the o

  18. It’s not a web app from what I understand. I think this view is based on a hate of electron and a twisting of some of what Ian said. He said look at the web and it will give you and idea where we are going, it has for that look is being implemented elsewhere. He has recently said that each app has shared code but each will evolve in ways appropriate for the platform it’s used on so its not the case all are the web app. A lot of this seems to come from some people’s strong dislike of electron which is the JavaScript platform they have used to write the new apps. Some people despise this and bec

  19. Tabs are also essential to my workflow. Though I could never understand why on earth in the previous (mac) version, the tabs weren't labelled correctly – the tab just gave the name of the notebook rather than the actual note, which was essentially useless for distinguishing between different notes. Given that I always had 5ish open, this was a major annoyance. I use fullscreen mode for my workflow on mac, and I use a lot of different spaces. Having all open evernote windows in separate spaces is totally impractical. You could open a separate desktop and pile up windows there (i.e. take th

  20. Dear Evernote Team, thank you for continuing to evolve my potentially most cherished piece of software. However, the new v10 I just installed is annoyingly hard to use, because all interactions are so slow: Clicking on anything is no longer snappy like in typical desktop apps, but rather a slow and laggy experience, and I see the dreaded spinning wheel everywhere, e.g., just by switching between notes. Luckily we can roll back to the v7 client for now, but I hope this can be solved and the UI made fluid and usable, as this version of Evernote is, I am sorry to say, 100% unusable to me. Looking

  21. Hi, I can't seem to be able to disable the red squiggly underline under my typing n the desktop app. I already tried disabling Windows' own spell checking, no effect, so it seems to be built into Evernote. I can't find any kind of drop-down menu with settings that would help me to turn this annoying feature off. Is it possible to do so?

  22. I articulated this in the beta forums and am re-adding here to allow for voting up of the feature for those who agree with me. I very much dislike the added step of having to click a note link, then click the link again in the menu that appears. Adds all kinds of extra clicks to my workflow. I'm aware that Command+Click will open the link in a new window (and bypass the click on the drop down URL that appears). This is an ok workaround for external note links (out to the web, for example) but not at all what I'm after for internal note links (I don't want them to open in a new window

  23. I use nested tags for two reasons. Yes, I'm a 2 percenter. I can expand and collapse groups of tags for quicker access and less visual clutter. The other reason is to see groups of notes in broad or more limited subject matter. In 6.25 desktop I can click a parent tag and see all notes assigned to any children tags. The notes don't need to have the parent tag assigned explicitly. Selecting the parent essentially is searching notes for child tag 1 OR child tag 2 OR child tag 3... This is how it should work. In web client 10.2.1, and I'm guessing other 10.2 clients, I will not install v10 d

  24. It is my habit to sequence my notes based on the actual date of events and I used to manually update the date and time of notes with the old version every time I make changes. As I have a new laptop, I download the latest version of Evernote and I find that I can no longer edit the "update time" of my notes. I look for the article in "Help and Learning" that Windows version supports the manual update but I cannot find the right way. What should I do? Thanks a lot!

  25. Hi, up to now we paid money for plus/premium/business subscription to get access to full functionality and mature version i.e. free from critical/major bugs. The current version has been stripped down from about 80% of advanced functionality - users' feedback about this has been ignored. Moreover, as seen on this and iOS forum there is a lot of critical bugs related to stability, sync., etc. Therefore, I suggest that all versions of Evernote apps/services should be free for all until they will reach some considerable level of maturity. Current paid users should get at least a partial

  26. Internal note links don't seem to be working as efficiently as before: Clicking a link pops up a link (evernote:///) instead of going directly to the note as in previous versions. Requires two clicks to move between notes. Copying internal note link by rt click, Ctrl+right click "internal note link" OR in the note options, copies the HTTP:// link. All new links open in a browser.

  27. Hey, everybody talks about „digital minimalism“. Now EN take this serious, axes a lot of „fat“ functions and what happens: People are complaining, where have my features gone, can’t work like this etc. If it really is „0 hour“ for the new EN, something stronger can emerge. If however several missing function are not released in due course, it could well be the point where minimalism turns into starving, viewed from a cash flow perspective. I am sitting on the legacy fence and watch the game to evolve.

  30. Morning all, went here in hopes of finding a solution to similar issue described above. I added notes on Thursday and Friday of last week to an existing note. I opened this morning to review and use, but seems like it needed an update. The notes aren't there and I'm trying not to freak out. I've checked trash and other notes as well. @Shane D. hoping you can assist me as well. - Kaleena

  34. Not on Business, so I can't tell about this part. What I observed in Premium is that shares between users do not work as before. They needed to be reactivated through the work chat. It seems the counters don't show the notes in shared notebooks unless they are reactivated. Since I did, notes counters in iOS and in Mac (legacy) are the same again. Even then, search of content shared to me by another person is not possible in v10, which is a real problem with notebooks containing several hundreds of notes. My support ticket resulted in another "Will be added in a future version ..

  35. I agree with all these points and I’d like to add the old version option of selecting multiple tags with the mouse on the sidebar using ‘ctrl + right click’.
    1 point
  36. Exactly. With the multiple selection of tags with ctrl+mouse in the old version we could choose to search with an AND/OR operation. But in addition, selecting multiple tags from the sidebar also allowed us to apply an OR search operation directly through the hierarchical structure, as you said. Now we can only do an OR search using the syntax commands. I’ve created a request thread.

  37. I am thinking of switching too. As 10 year user, I somewhat feel Evernote has betrayed me. I am all for innovation and change. But this is not the way. I am thinking of switching to Notion. Notion is really powerful. I am a heavy tag user. And Notion does not have a global tag view and no offline support. And nimbus notes does not have preview of images in the snipped list view.

  38. I have found this too, I have a few test notes in Numbus on an iPad Pro and each takes at least three seconds to open, even if I click one to the other and back it’s three seconds each time. I though the Evernote app was slow but it’s around a second, two when it’s playing up. And these notes I’m testing, no images, just a few sentences and some tick boxes.

  40. Yes, and on top of that it looks exactly like Tusk now. Is copying Tusk really the best they could come up with? They should have added a warning that this new version is not as good as the old one so people could abort before installing. I'm rolling back.

  43. Why why why would you change a perfectly good user interface and totally complicate it? This new version does not make it easier to create a note or to change the notebook for the note. It makes it harder. It requires more touches. There’s also a massive White space in the main note View. Who made these decisions? Why don’t you consult your user community before you did this? Evernote used to be the easiest app on my phone to use and now it is one of the most complicated. I hate the new version. In addition to this, as I have stated before, it’s absolutely unacceptable that you allow foreign d

  44. Hey team, So I recently update to v10.1.7 of Evernote and was writing my notes as usually, when I notice I no longer had the option of exporting my note as PDF under the File tab on Windows 10. I was using v6 before the update and I enjoyed this feature quite heavily. Please advise on how to export my notes as a PDF in v10.1.7 now. Thanks in advance!

  46. Hi. You don't mention whether this is Mac, Windows or mobile, but have you tried stepping back to the last public version? v10 is pretty much a skeleton so doesn't display much, but if your data still exists within Evernote (or you have a usable backup) you may find the Legacy versions are the best place to stay for a while...

  49. I have been an Evernote user for nearly 10 years now, and I have never posted except to assist other users with problems. I do feel as though I need to add my voice to the general dissent, perhaps only as a power user, with version 10. I tolerated the reduced functionality of the web app and can make do with the current Android app, because I knew I could always go back to the Windows app where I could rapidly initiate searches with [CTRL]-Q, adjust note creation and updated dates, enter and edit note locations (which I do use), construct advanced searches and bulk process notes the way

  50. This is 4 lines too many. In other similar applications, when you select hyperlink, you get a browse option. You select the file or the site, give it a Title to replace the hyperlink and press ok. I should not have to switch out of the application to find the file nor learn control sequences. I am afraid this particular feature of Evernote fails the embarrassment test.
