  2. Personally I cannot believe they have released this, I was a preview and beta tester and the number of issues raised should have been a good indication of how this was not ready for general release. There are so many missing features and no word on whether they will ever re-appear and things still not working, pretty disappointed to be honest - seems like most of the feedback was ignored.

  3. Evernote - can we get a list of features removed please... otherwise, here is some initial feedback: Removed Features (unless I'm just not seeing them elsewhere): - offline notes / local databases (a timeline on when this is expected to return would be quite helpful to us travelers!) - import folders - shortcut keys - ability to screenshot into Evernote (ack!) Sure hope this comes back real soon! - export entire notebooks - found this under the notebooks overview section Broken/Buggy: - http links in the note open a browser window - this is expected behavior.... BUT I have a lot of Evernote note links with http instead of the evernote:/// structure -- could the Evernote app perhaps parse Evernote http links and just open in the app window? Just an idea anyway... I've got a lot (thousands) of note links to change otherwise. - is the time zone bug fixed yet? I noticed this on the beta - my "created today" notes essentially disappear at the stroke of midnight in a different time zone than mine. Other: - since we're in a web wrapper now - is there a timeline to a Linux release?

  4. Hi. First comment - you may want to change the tag line for this section: "If you have feedback related to the older version of Evernote for Windows, post here!" (my emphasis) - I think you mean the new one? Some questions arise before I update my current version 6.25... Is there a "step back" option? - i.e. once updated would I be able to revert to my 6.25 version if the new app is not performing well? Local (unsynced) notes are no longer supported - do you still store local copies of the notes synced with the server database? I ask because I use Backupery's app to export my notes to ENEX on a daily basis and I'd like to continue to do so after updating. For anyone wary of updating to the new version - how long do you forsee support for legacy versions continuing? Will there still be bug fixes and updates for those versions? Presentation Mode is something which is very useful for academic users - is there any prospect of this coming back / some sort of integration with a presentation app? Another service I use is Postach.io - will that app continue to be able to convert my notes to a blog? I can work around the Outlook Clipper no longer being supported (there's still email!) but the list of unsupported features in the help page says (again my emphasis) Can we expect an exhaustive list of 'no longer supported' features anytime soon?

  5. I've participated in the Preview and the Beta programmes for this release. I've noted bugs when I've seen them, responded to the feedback questionnaires and posted observations to the Preview and Beta forums. I'm really surprised to see this release go live when the most recent beta didn't seem nearly ready. It feels as if this release has been rushed rather too rapidly. Perhaps to catch up with the iOS release? It doesn't even feel like a robust Beta, let alone a full release. I appreciate this is a "journey" and improvements can still be made, etc. etc. but shouldn't the app at least... you know... work? I made a list of some of the basic functionality that I was waiting to see fixed. I say "fixed" because these are all things that already existed in the previous release and have not been implemented in 10.0.10. Tabs! - Imagine using a web browser and the developer removed the ability to open more than one tab at a time. My mother only uses one tab in her web browser but I suspect she might be in the minority. This was highlighted early on in the beta programme and seems to have been ignored. Local links - Again, highlighted early on and seemingly ignored. Not only does it seem impossible to create a local link to a note, existing evernote:// links no longer work. Imagine if you were a paying Evernote customer (I am) who'd created a lot of links in other applications (I have)! No need to imagine, I guess. So all the carefully-crafted links are not honoured. Why take this functionality away? Or why send out a product before it has this basic functionality included? </rhetorical> PDF Annotation Summaries - I annotate documents, research papers etc. Previously, annotations were summarised at the top of the note. Really useful stuff! That's no longer available. Not only that, my existing annotation summaries have lost all recognisable formatting. Highlights in the wrong places, text annotations pointing to the wrong text. Web Clipper - I'm not sure what's happened here but the web clipper, which used to be excellent and so much better than any competitors' solutions, is now formatting clipped content in strange and unexpected ways. What was a predictable behaviour is now a lottery. Creating a Table of Contents from multiple notes - No longer an option. Why not? I could go on (and frequently do). There are a host of curious design choices that other beta users have highlighted. I'm not quite so frustrated with those things. I can live with a quirky new way of doing something as long as it works. Why do I need to click twice on a link to open it? Who knows? It's a behaviour I'm not familiar with and seems like a curious design choice but I'm really only bothered that the link opens. TL;DR? Evernote is broken. At least, it doesn't work in a way that will allow me to keep using it without employing a lot of "workarounds". This is true of the iOS release too. (The issue about offline notebooks is well documented in the relevant forum, for example.) Having been with Evernote for 12 years, I was happy to contribute time to the Preview and Beta programmes. I liked Evernote. I encouraged friends to use it. I pestered work colleagues to download it. I don't expect to be making such encouraging noises in the future! I'm sure a huge amount of work has gone into making this new Evernote release. Perhaps this is simply a bumpy start to an exciting journey but it's not one that I'll be joining. I just want Evernote to be what it used to be, a reliable, robust 'second brain'. This release, sadly, is not a step forward.

  6. A real slap in the face for all of us preview and beta testers who have spent hours not only finding all the problems but carefully documenting them and saying why they are important to our workflows. I know it's not the final version and I know we can still use the full functioned "old" version but what do EN hope to learn by making it a general release? They are just going to be told all the things we have been saying for months.

  7. I think publishing this as the whole new client is in fact nothing to be proud of - Evernote! As a beta user I was shocked, that this immature client is now being released to the world. There are so many points from the beta forums not being addressed (yet ?). Having not all initial features in place it even is not a beta version. A windows client, that is not capable of showing offline/online status e.g. by showing "we are in offline-mode") is a no-go. Travelers never know, if their content will be available on the go or their edits will be show up on other clients. For real world Evernote use the native client will stay the number choice until Evernote has addressed these major deficits.

  8. Umm ... This is starting to be a lot of detailed tech support (not just recommendations) for a non-Evernote program. If Keep It has its own forums, might be good to work on these details there. Just a suggestion.

  10. I used color tags - not a lot, but for specific certain groups together in my shortcuts list. Any chance of bringing these back? If not, how about letting us create a shortcut 'divider' bar? Or better yet, shortcut "stacks"?

  11. You can still download the legacy version of our apps here and have them installed side by side: https://help.evernote.com/hc/en-us/articles/360052560314

  12. Please return the ability to turn on note counts and make them visible for notebooks in the left side bar. This is a key piece of interface information for how I (and everyone who I coach to use Evernote for GTD) use Evernote.

  14. @Shane D.: First of all, I hope they gave you last week off to get ready for this! Second, can you please clarify something WRT the "legacy" program = v. 6.25.1.9198: is it possible to download and install the new version alongside an existing v. 6.25 installation? Or does the new version (v. 10, I take it) overwrite/delete an installed v. 6.25, making it necessary to then download and install the "legacy" v. 6.25.1.1998? And in either case, will the legacy version and the new version both access the same on-disk Evernote database, or does the new version create a different database? Full details, please! TIA.

  16. Hi all, I've moved several posts related to specific issues into their own threads. If you have a specific issue/request, please add it to an existing thread or start a dedicated one whenever possible. This will better enable us to quantify the requests. Feel free to reach out to me directly if you have questions.

  17. ... and as additional fast-info: As mentioned by Shane the legacy version of the actual/old version Evernote_6.25.2.9198 is to find and to download via the Evernote article "Install an older version of Evernote" on https://help.evernote.com/hc/en-us/articles/360052560314

  18. FYI - for anyone wanting to make sure they keep a copy of the 'legacy' version for re-installation - jump to the forums here and download 6.25.1.9091 - save a copy to your computer/cloud/etc., just in case it disappears from the forums!

  20. Sir, the problem is not the password. The problem is evernote. Now finally received the latest update and all is working but now we are having a bunch of issues with tables. A lot of adjustments still needs to be done on the latest version. I keep sending feedback. hope it will be solved soon. It´s a frustrating experience lately.

  21. Another disastrous feature removal is global shortcuts, i.e., shortcuts usable system-wide. As @ej8899 points out, this means you can no longer clip a screenshot directly into a new Evernote note; nor can you start a simple text note from outside Evernote. This is also a workflow-killer. And then there's the fonts. The "What's New" post says blithely, "More control over headings and a standardized font selection means your notes will look the same everywhere." OK, and I've been looking forward to the headings. But "standardized fonts" means that this will be the only Windows program I have that has no access to the full set of Windows fonts, unless I want to copy and paste from elsewhere. That's a massive trade-off. I'd like to think it was carefully thought through, but a lot else about this release suggests otherwise. Does anyone know whether it's possible to open a note in a separate window anymore? The keyboard shortcut is gone, but can you still double-click to do this? Got enough hot messes in my life right now. Will not be downgrading to this new app in the foreseeable future. The current ("legacy") version works well, and any needed tech support is right here.

  22. This is unbelievable, a vast step backward in everyone's workflow. I can't believe anyone at all wanted this "feature"! It doesn't even make sense in the Web version, yet here it is thrust upon us in Windows.

  23. Thats what I guess. I shortly read that support for the former special Evernote Edition has been given up. Newer firmware is just Fujitsu ScanSnap software „pure“ - including options for direct scans to Evernote. This should stay compatible...

  24. This issue relates to the brandnew article "What's new in Evernote for Windows 10.0.10 – Evernote Help & Learning" (https://help.evernote.com/hc/en-us/articles/360047889234, 2020-10-07) not quite clear for me is which shortcuts, that may be used in our workflows, are no longer supported or just not implemented yet. There are quite a lot of keyboard shortcuts listed in the actual article "Keyboard shortcuts in Evernote for Windows (https://help.evernote.com/hc/en-us/articles/209004807), that are listed as "Not available" in the new version: This is (state of 2020-10-07): all former global keyboard shorcuts (system-wide when working in any application - provided Evernote is running) Application-wide keyboard shorcuts Jump to notebook - Older versions: Ctrl + Shift + N Print Preview - Older versions: Ctrl + Shift + P Switch to another user - Older versions: Ctrl + Alt + A Show/Hide Note List - Older versions: F11 Show/Hide Note View - Older versions: Ctrl + F11 Show/Hide Tags View - Older versions: Ctrl + Shift + T Quick Search - Older versions: Ctrl + Q Snippet View - Older versions: Ctrl + F5 Card View - Older versions: Ctrl + F6 Top List View - Older versions: Ctrl + F7 Side List View - Older versions: Ctrl + F8 Thumbnail View - Older versions: Ctrl + F9 Search notebook - Older versions: Shift + Alt + N Search Tags - Older versions: Shift + Alt +N Show Search Explanation - Older versions: Ctrl + F10 Close separate windows / Minimize main window to tray - Older versions: Alt + F4 Sync - Older versions: F9 Online Help - Older versions: F1 Cycle through note list views (Snippet, Card, Top List, Side List, Thumbnail) - Older versions: F5 Note Editor keyboard shorcuts Search Notes - Older versions: F6 Reset Search - Older versions: Ctrl + Shift + A Check Spelling - Older versions: F7 Open in a New Window - Older versions: Ctrl + Enter Present - Older versions: Ctrl + Alt + Enter Present on Another Screen - Older versions: Ctrl + Shift + Enter Tag - Older versions: Ctrl + Alt + T Email note - Older versions: Ctrl + Shift + E Font - Older versions: Ctrl + D Insert Checkbox - Older versions: Ctrl + Shift + C Remove Formatting- Older versions: Ctrl + Shift + Space Note List keyboard shorcuts Search Notebooks - Older versions: Alt + F1 Search Tags - Older versions: Alt + F2 Search Saved Searches - Older versions: Alt + F3 Go to the first note in list - Older versions: Home Go to the last note in list - Older versions: End Open the selected note in a separate window - Older versions: Ctrl + Enter Navigation menu keyboard shorcuts Move to the previous item in the section (notebooks, tags, ...) - Older versions: Up arrow Move to the next item in the section (notebooks, tags, ...) - Older versions: Down arrow View the list of sub-items under the selected item (if applicable) - Older versions: Right arrow Collapse the list of sub-items under the selected item (if applicable) - Older versions: Left arrow Delete selected item - Older versions: Delete

I see from the Help and Learning Post What features are not yet available in the new app? This is not an exhaustive list of features, but the most notable include: App preferences Export options other than ENEX Evernote Helper Audio note recording and playback Quick switcher (Cmd+J) Published notebooks (Evernote Business) What features are no longer supported in the new app? This is not an exhaustive list of features, but the most notable include: Local notebooks Presentation mode Context ScanSnap Evernote Edition firmware and software edit: Top list view not available in this release; future update edit: Navigation in the note list panel does not update the note panel; by design edit: edit: Note count in the sidebar missing; ? edit: Tabs missing; ? edit 20201011: Classic in-app links are no longer generated _

  26. F6 used to go to the search box, I can't get there as quickly as I used to. That is the 1st think I noticed. Otherwise I love the way it looks, having dark mode etc. F3 for tagging works which is nice. F2 for title editing does not work. But CTRL + TAB does the trick, so not a big deal there. CTRL + D does not work, which is a big deal for me but the formatting tools are different now, so I need to play with it more. CTRL + SHIFT + H for highlighter works. Keyboard shortcut for Insert and formatting items will be highly anticipated for me.

  30. 'sync' seems to have disappeared as a functional concept. The UI now reports 'all changes saved' when it has done so after you make edits on the Mac, but there is no way to force it to sync if you know changes have happened on the notes from other devices. It seems to happen on a 10-20 second polling cycle so what am i meant to do... esp when i open up the mac for the first time in the morning, just leave it for a while and wait? How hard could it be, genuinely, to design it in such a way as to push the changes to other devices, rather than force them all to poll the server infrequently... record changes from the last device, and then when another device checks in and it wasn't the last device to have edited, it just pulls all the edits. It was easy enough to create sync conflicts on the previous version... imagine it's even easier now.

  31. I just upgraded from the legacy 7.x version of Evernote Mac app to the latest v10.0.10 build 1838 on my macOS Catalina running latest security updates... After logging in, I can no longer see the Evernote Helper functionality that lets me clip screenshots and save to new note in the Helper service in the task bar. I double checked and it appears the app has proper access to the Screen Recording settings under the Security & Privacy settings of the the macOS System Preferences. I should also point out that I had early closed Beta access to test out the new 10.x release. I have deleted the old Beta and installed the latest public release from the main site. Was the Evernote Helper functionality removed in this new release or am I having some odd issue / bug? Any help appreciated!

  33. Internal note links don't seem to be working as efficiently as before: Clicking a link pops up a link (evernote:///) instead of going directly to the note as in previous versions. Requires two clicks to move between notes. Copying internal note link by rt click, Ctrl+right click "internal note link" OR in the note options, copies the HTTP:// link. All new links open in a browser.

  34. When I click the Expand Note button to hide the sidebars on the web client, it reverts back within 10 or 15 seconds. Just a few days ago I was able to expand a note and write in it for an extended period of time, now it won't allow me to do that. I'm using the Chrome browser on a Chromebook. Anyone know of a fix or if I'm doing something wrong? Edit: It appears to only occur in a particularly long note I'm editing. I tried to replicate the issue in a shorter note and couldn't.

  35. I've been looking forward to the new editor's appearance in the Windows desktop program. Now that it's here -- I'm not. Among major feature deficits is the removal of access to the full set of Windows fonts. The "What's New" post makes the point that "a standardized font selection means your notes will look the same everywhere." Yes, that's an advantage, in some cases. But I have thousands of notes written in the past, occasionally using something other than the default Tahoma 10, and I'm wondering what will happen to them. When I open a note in the new program, will the formerly default Tahoma 10 be converted to, say, "Sans Serif" at whatever point size the "Normal text" style is? Or will the fonts and sizes be left alone, to become badly intermingled with text in the new manner when I edit them? Am I going to have to go through some tedious font ritual every time I edit an old note? All that is assuming, of course, that I ever update to the new version, which I see no reason to do. I can put in headers and extra highlight colors in the Web version if I want them, while saving the look and customizability of my existing notes. The new Evernote would be the only Windows program I have that can't access the Windows fonts. I rarely use Google Docs, but I do know that, though it doesn't have the full set, even as a Web app it has a far more robust set of fonts than the Evernote Web client. I'm looking forward to having more font styling in the Android app, but to pay for that by having this drastic cut in Windows is an unhappy choice. Perhaps those who've been testing or using the new Windows version can comment on the fonts experience and its advantages and disadvantages on the basis of experience, rather than just my annoyed speculation.

  36. It seems my Windows based Evernote life will be stuck in 2020 (of all times!). I was part of the Beta, gave my feedback, uninstalled, and went back. Today, I tried again to no avail. The new update comes at the cost of stripping away everything I use and love about the Windows desktop version. I have used Evernote personally and professionally for 10 years. I use it daily on multiple devices. This is a devastating setback. Notes - we lost all access to our font list and reduced to five? Set line spacing around text that you cannot change. Spacing around images that used to be a nonissue. I don't need my notes spread out down the page. I use small fonts for a reason. Snippet view is huge now - only 7 notes visible compared to 12 on the old version Shortcuts - why did we lose access to them in the toolbar? Search - why is that taking up space in the navigation window? it was fine where it was or add it to the toolbar. The navigation panel is prime real estate that I should be able to control. Folders - no option to remove Recent Notes from the Shortcuts menu is the opposite of helpful. Why take away styles for notes? I use color coding to organize my folders for the different subjects and activities I teach and coach. If I wanted to use the web version, I would. I use the desktop version for all of the functionality mentioned above.

  42. Well, I don't agree about the "decent software". The reason that Microsoft is doing well now is because they are more and more concentrating on services like Azure. The software that they now create wouldn't pass the quality check of, let's say, 10 years ago. Nowadays their software is less native and more Electron based, resulting in apps that are clunky, slow and memory hogs. If I work in Visual Code, Outlook, Teams and Power BI al together my memory usage for these four alone is around 15GB (!). With native apps this would be around 2GB.

  45. In the iOS client you can add another scan after you scanned the main page. The automatic information transfer to the business card fields will only happen from the first page scanned, but it is possible to add more pages by taking pictures into the new note. So scan the main page of the business card, let it convert into a new note, and then add more pictures. I think this should work as well on Android.

  47. Hi. When you say you 'cannot' delete the app, I assume you're seeing some error messages about a missing MSI? The standard fix -as you seem to know- is to reinstall the same version. That should be available here - The current version is 6.25, which should be available if you can update your current installation correctly.

  49. Hi All, I wanted to take some time to announce some changes you’ll be seeing in the discussion forums that we hope will help to improve your experience! First, we will be enabling a feature called Best Answer that will enable the person that starts a thread to mark a specific reply/comment as the ‘Best Answer’. This will then mark the thread as ‘answered’, and enable other users to quickly see that the question has been answered. To mark a reply as a Best Answer simply click on the 'check mark' icon in upper left hand corner of the post you're marking: When marked with a Best Answer, the thread will look like this: Then, you can see the 'Best Answer' clearly marked in list of forum posts: Our hope is that the Best Answer feature will better enable users who are asking questions to get the information they’re looking for, while also enabling users that have similar questions to find that same information more easily. Secondly, we’ve received a lot of feedback on the similarities between the FAQ’s and Best Practices sections. As there is a lot of overlap between the two, we’ll be merging the FAQ’s and Best Practices into a single forum under the banner FAQ's: Best Answers Moving forward, the FAQ's: Best Answers section of the forums will become a repository for the Best Answers we see in the other parts of the forums. Essentially, think of the FAQ's: Best Answers sections as a sort of best answers hall of fame.
