Hi All, In one of the first episodes of Evernote Behind the Scenes, CEO Ian Small and senior designer Mariano discussed our plan to improve search in Evernote Web. At the time, it was just that: a plan. Now Ian checks in with May, a senior product manager at Evernote, to see how that plan has become a reality. They put a working version of Evernote’s improved, soon-to-be-released search through its paces, showing how it really is “more interactive, more meaningful, and ever more useful."

Feature Request: Add Outlining Capabilities to Evernote Evernote is great, but it's dying for the ability to create Notes that contain Outlines which are easily collapsed and expanded during creation and in use. One way to implement it would be a switchable editing mode, between standard formatting or outline mode. In outline mode, pressing the Enter key creates a new outline item, and pressing the Tab key changes the current item into a sub-item. Clicking on an item's action icon causes its sub-items to collapse out of, or expand into view. That's the way the Ecco Pro PIM did it, and something simple like that would be a good start for Evernote. The name Evernote implies a product that takes notes -and collapsible/expandable outlines are a huge part of note taking.

There's a big feature missing in evernote shared notebooks. There should be a feature of getting notifications and alerts when someone edits a share note or notebook.

Tried the all the new Evernote for android versions 8.11 and 8.12 ....got heavy lag and sometimes even crashes.Tried also earlier versions of the 8 version....nothing helped. I almost lost hope but then I found my workaround....the latest 7 version which is 7.17.1 😀 I found the old apk here : https://www.apk4fun.com/apk/273293/ (32.3 MB) (no issues found on virustotal.com ) My phone Umidigi A3 Pro architecture is is arm64-v8a but I succeeded installing this arm64-v7A apk. The 7.17.1 is the last version before the 8 version and it is from about March 2018. Here's the unofficial changelog of the android app (my recommended apk is at the bottom of page no. 2) https://www.apk4fun.com/history/6372/2/Now, To stop Evernote from updating automatically by your android phone: 1. Open the Play Store app. 2. Touch "hamburger sign" > My apps & games. 3. Touch the INSTALLED tab, then touch the app's name. 4. Touch "3 dots" at the top-right and turn off "Enable auto update". That's it. From now on if you open your Google Play you'll see Evernote on the "Pending" list. Just ignore it. It will not be updated. I had no issues using this apk for the last few weeks and it responds very fast (opening the app, creating new notes and searching). Android Oreo 8.1.0 on Umidigi A3 Pro

Stacey - If I understand your question correctly, I think the answer is "yes". If you look carefully at this part of the video: https://youtu.be/_ZJqSR_MWmw?t=218 you can see the option to save as a shortcut as well in the dialog box allowing us to save the search. If that's not what you mean, please ask again! Back to lurking... ian

Will it still be possible to shortcut our saved searches?

Yes, so long as you share as "Can edit" or "Can edit and invite". Subscription level doesn't matter in this case; basic users can share for editing too.

As I understood past posts and Blog entries by Ian, 2019 will be the year of consolidating and building a strong backend. Once that is accomplished 2020 will be the year of new features. I hope aforementioned features will be included.

Wow, dude ... again and again, you and others point out stuff that's been right in front of me and I just haven't seen. Thanks!

I mainly use the Windows desktop and Android apps. I've come to enjoy working in the Web beta, though, because of the highlight coloring options. As things stand now, however, the 3(!) Web versions are pretty disjointed. Perhaps we should think of the Evernote Web interface as being in its adolescence: awkward, sometimes clumsy, wildly inconsistent, but showing the promise of the grownup software it can become. But it has some maturing to do before I hand it the car keys.

If you're going to post a question in the forums, various users (including me) will have a go at 'helping', though our observations are sometimes necessarily vague because the questions aren't that specific about which OS / what version of Evernote the issue is about. There's an official post somewhere about how to raise a query (and for subscribers to request Evernote support), but the problem obviously applies to most forums and help teams - and I found quite a good general (and funny) post about that in LifeHacker. https://www.lifehacker.co.uk/2019/10/18/solve-your-own-problems-with-the-rubber-duck-trick I might try this out. I do own rubber duck...

In the Windows application, you can use the Note History toolbar button to serve as a recent note finder. Long clickon the left arrow ("<") in the note history tool, and it should give you a list or recently visited notes. I don't know of any other mechanisms for this in the Windows application.

Here is a refreshing video on the benefits of Evernote. He points out the strengths of Evernote. I miss the vitality from some of the former managers of Evernote, but I do agree with Steve Dotto's comments. https://dottotech.com/evernote-vs-world/

This might depend on your definition of "what it was supposed to do" My definition of the Evernote core function is storage and organization of my data. The other stuff is ancillary Others might disagree and consider the "ancillary stuff" as core function btw The Evernote web clipper is temporary unavailable on the Mac platform ☹️ Edit: Safari Browser

Are the 4 points below accurate? Symptoms started early July 2019. Evernote acknowledged these symptoms at approx same time (early July). We have a workaround from @Don0819. It's now ~2.5 months later and the symptoms persist. Additionally: These symptoms are severe on my team's systems; they interrupt our meetings, workflow, and presentations several times a day. Everyone in a team meeting groans audibly whenever the dreaded "Evernote quite unexpectedly" window comes up, because they know it's going to popup at least 3 more times during the meeting. It does not seem to matter whether or not Evernote.app is running -- but we're not 100% certain of this, because we are Fujitsu-ScanSnap-scanning all the time and auto-loading Evernote in the process; and thus, if closing Evernote.app _does_ mitigate these symptoms, we keep "forgetting" to close Evernote after every scanned document. Can someone demonstrate to me that Evernote prioritizes this problem enough to fix it? 2.5 months is a long time. The workaround is too cumbersome for my team, and by the sounds of it, the problematic symptoms often (if not consistently?) reoccur after applying the workaround procedure. If no one can concretely demonstrate movement and interest by Evernote to solve this, I'll start seeking an Evernote replacement. My team can not operationally proceed with this behavior. [Our macOS 10.14.6 systems are running Evernote 7.12.]

Hi, I would like to make a feature request. The default behavior of the web clipper is to create a new note with the selected content in a given notebook. A separate note for every little clip is not always necessary. So, why not include an option to append the clipped content to an existing note. It would be somewhat similar to merging 2 notes, only difference being, the process is now automatic and on-the-fly, instead of being manual. PS: Sorry for the poor English. Thanks, The-Droidster

It's 2019 and from my searches it appears this feature has been requested since 2014😥 Still can't add or modify a hyperlink in the android app. How hard is this? It should be a simple feature in any electronic tool. I like to have notes reference each other and am doing more and more things on portable tools like phones and tablets. Please add this feature. Without features like this Evernote is falling further and further behind giving more motivation to look at other tools.

You know, I was using the digital inking/sketch feature in Evernote today with my pencil and it's truly great - the tools are good, natural, they have good smoothing and pressure sensitivity, and the results look good. I just wish the PDF markup would look like the digital inking, rather than the outdated ex-skitch pink crayon stuff. Just make the markup mirror what already exists in the digital inking capability (maybe with a text tool) and I'd be over the moon.

Not just Apple Pencil, but the whole integration/insertion of PDFs needs to be updated to allow for seamless notetaking.

It would be great if anything you type into a note while recording audio had a visible time stamp, e.g. 10:19 next to it. Clicking the number would then navigate to the place in the audio recording. Of course there is at least one app that does this, but it would be ideal to have this functionality inside Evernote. Thanks.
