  1. I recognize Evernote is used in many different ways, but personally I think that the power of Evernote tags is in filtering. IOW, instead of trying to define a structure such as "Taxes", "Taxes-2018", "Taxes-2019", simply have tags "Taxes", "2018", "2019". Then, when you are searching for tax-related notes, filter first by the tag "Taxes" and then add to the filtered search which year tag corresponds to the search you want. The power of this is that the year tags "2018", "2019", etc. can also be used as filters for completely different searches. For example, you may have a tag "Journal" or "Correspondence" with the year tags to helpfully categorize which years those notes fall under. So instead of trying to figure out some complicated tag structure like… Correspondence Correspondence-2018 Correspondence-2019 Journal Journal-2018 Journal-2019 Taxes Taxes-2018 Taxes-2019 You could simply have the following list of tags… 2018 2019 Correspondence Journal Taxes Note: I use special characters before certain tags for major areas of work, life, etc.

  2. Hi all! Evernote version 8.20 is now available on the App Store! We welcome any feedback, thanks! It was a day like any other. Until you tried to create a note in a shared notebook, and the app suddenly crashed. You fell to your knees, pounded your fists on the floor, and cried out in despair, “Whyyy? Why, in the name of all that is good and decent, can’t they just fix that?” We’ve got great news: we fixed that.

  3. Thanks, Wux! EN could have done a few things. How about sending an email to all Android users with the temporary fix info? How about releasing an "update" to the Play Store that simply reverts to the previous build, and again sending an email to all Android users with a link to the (broken) newer version, if they really want it? How about being more responsive when folks are struggling with this search issue and reporting it to EN over and over? So yes, bugs happen - we are aware of this. How it's handled can make a huge difference.

  4. I was very excited to see this addon announced but have been very underwhelmed with its functionality on first impressions. It is so slow and counter intuitive when it comes to labelling and selecting notebooks. Why is there no drop down menu like the web clipper that is fast and snappy to respond? I have to navigate to labels then navigate back then navigate to notebooks. It is so clunky. And it just seems to me like the be clipper does a better job of capturing the email overall anyway. The web clipper even adds a link that you can use to get back to your email whereas the addon does not. Am I missing something here?

  5. I have a thousand tags probably (I don't know how to count them). I'd like to move a tag to a new hierarchy, for example Current hierarchy Fruit Figs.Dried New hierarchy Dried.DeHydrated Figs.Dried At the moment, these tags are hundreds/thousands items apart in the tag list, so it takes 6 - 10 DragNDrop to move the item. One way to solve this could be changing the Rename Tag applet so as to give us the ability to edit the parent structure. It's not difficult for me to look up the exact spelling of the new parent tag, but it would be easier with auto-complete. For this use case, multiple parents are not necessary, but I would also like multiple parents.

  6. MatS14 THANK YOU!!!! I had clicked on most of those options and it said I needed to submit a ticket but a link to do so never came up! Thank you for all your time on the screenshots, hopefully I can get this fixed now!

  7. In Evernote, Press "Account" : It will bring this up; press "Help and Learning": This page will pop up; Press "SEND US AN EMAIL Anytime": That will bring you to this: Fill out "My Account" > "Access History" ( I found out that's what worked for you to open a ticket; some others don't work ) : Scroll down and you'll see "Submit a Ticket" and a couple more, Press "Submit a Ticket" : Then it will come up with this; Fill everything out and don't forget to press "Submit" : You have NO IDEA How long it takes me to edit all these pics for your help. Best Regards, -- MatS14

  8. I shut off auto-updates ONLY for Evernote.

  9. I think this may be releated to the "search not working anymore" since the last update, which is also not working for me anymore. I can select every other option for the list view of the widget (last shown, recently, notebook, reminder... sorry if not all options are correct, I use the german version of Evernote), and they all show a list of notes in the widget as they should. But if I select the "saved search" option, then none of my saved searches show up, I only get the very unhelpful message "list can not be shown, maybe there is a problem with your WLAN". Yes, surely. I didn't now that EN on Android is only to be used with WiFi... Yes, EN on Android does not get much love. But releasing an update ("dark mode is better", and I even like and use dark mode) which breaks search, which frankly is one of the most import features of a note keeping app, and (a) not repairing it or (b) rolling back the changes as quickly as possible baffles me.

  10. Yes of course, this is the solution. You just have to allow to install apks from third party sites, where at this point Google urges you very strongly to reconsider, cause this is very often a very bad idea. And after this your have to switch off auto-updates for every app on your phone, which will also include not installing security relevant fixes, cause EN is not able to get its act together. Yes, that sounds about the right thing to do. For me the most incomprehensible thing with this bug BTW is for me not the bug itself - bugs can happen. It is not even that they did not revert to an earlier version, cause I really don't know about the intricacies of the Google App Store (if you look at the troubles with the actual Windows Beta of EN then sometimes there is more in the background going on then we know). No, if you look at the first post in this thread, then you will realize that EN knew about this bug through its voluntary beta-testers all along, and they released it anyway. This reminds me of MS, who were told bei their beta-testers that this Window release sometimes deletes all your data (which an OS really shouldn't do), and they too released it anyway. Somewhere in the management of EN somebody said "what the heck, we'll just release it, hardly nobody will notice". That our note-keeping app is unable to search for notes anymore.

  11. Sorry - should have explained more clearly. When you're using the Android app, you do tap the magnifying glass icon to open the search page. Type your query in the search box. DO NOT tap further to start the search - I have a magnifying glass icon on my keyboard which I tended to tap like a 'return' key. This just generates a spinning arrow. Your search hits should start soon after you finish typing.

  14. Android version: 7, Rom name: Superman-Rom, Rom Date: 23.12.17 Edit: My current version in evernote App under Settings / Support displays "current version is 8.9" This has been happening for about 2 weeks and today I decided to reinstall Evernote app and is still not working I have seen a similar problem in this topic with no apparently solution and I am not sure that is the same problem: https://discussion.evernote.com/topic/119365-search-not-working/ I type any search and a circle starts spinning like searching but that goes forever. Also, In the left menu, the syncing animation that displays a circle of 2 arrows running clockwise is displaying "OFFLINE SEARCH INDEXING" The main purpose of evernote is to search and if it does not search what is the point of having it. I went to the web and in the web works fine, and in the Windows desktop platform also works fine. Thanks for any hint to solve this big problem.

  15. Hi. Why not use single word tags like animal / tiger / carnivore / dangerous etc, and search for whatever combination of the factors you require? To minimise the selection or typing of tags, I always save tag combinations in a note (actually, in my case a Workflowy section) as "animal, dangerous, endangered, carnivore, tiger". Typing 'tiger' in Workflowy's search box gets me to that line, and copying and pasting that line into one Evernote tag field, generates all the individual tags in one hit. If my next picture was 'lion', I'd copy the tag set, change tiger to lion and save as an additional field, as well as generating the tags. If you work out what categories you're tagging, that might also suggest a hierarchy you could create in Evernote for desktop. Something like this possibly.. (also created in Workflowy but not as useful as the other option above...) If you remember that you need one item from each of 4 categories, you'll at least be consistent in your tagging - which is one of the main requirements. (IMHO!) Searching is also pretty effective - on the basis that you're not going to find many tigers that are not carnivorous and/ or dangerous, I'd respectfully suggest that those tags are superfluous for the tiger - unless you're going to need pictures of several animals that are carnivorous and dangerous; but then searching for <shark>, <tiger>, <leopard> etc would do the job equally well... The final decision is up to you of course, but I prefer to keep tags to a minimum. The question you didn't ask - "Is Evernote a good place for my photo library?" - again, respectfully, no. There are several apps that will allow you to edit, crop and store your pictures by date, subject and tag - and they'll preserve the RAW versions and backup your valuable pictures too. I use Lightroom. Just sayin'

  19. Hi Bidel, Like others on this forum, I agree that Evernote (as well as other apps) can help as you work on your dissertation. Since there is life after completing your doctoral studies, I would urge you to develop a knowledge management strategy that will allow you to use what you read and write during your coursework and research as you continue your post-doc career. I worked on team a few years ago that developed some suggestions for grad students for organizing and synthesizing your information in Evernote. The link to the site is: http://evernoteaturi.wikispaces.com/ Good luck with your studies! Jay Fogleman

  20. I'd have to go back a dozen versions because it has just gotten worse with every release. Your interface/UI team should be fired and replaced. Do some user testing, or something. It's horrible. We're all on Macs and increasingly everyone we work with is complaining about it. You guys should figure it out before it's too late. Your software has gone from a business essential to absolute garbage on all platforms. The mobile apps should be dragged out and shot too. Sorry, to be harsh, but it's reality. I have hundreds of notes, and dumping to html isn't exactly easy to manage and import into another system.

  23. There is a pre-defined Shortcut in the iOS Shortcuts app that says "Add new note from Watch" but I'll be darned if I can figure it out. I can tap on it in the Shortcuts app and do a note, but I don't know how to make this work from the Apple Watch, which would seem to be the point. I'm not seeing how to install Shortcuts to the Watch via the Watch app on my phone, and there isn't anything obvious on my Watch to make this happen that I've found. Running all the latest release versions on iOS and watchOS. (No beta's)

  25. Hi All, You may have noticed that all threads requesting Markdown support have been merged into this thread, regardless of platform specificity. This was done in order to better enable us to quantify and qualify user requests, and amplify their voice. While this does not mean this is a feature that will be coming, we certainly want to relay user feedback/sentiment to our various teams. Moving forward, please put all commentary and votes for Markdown support here!
