    Hi all, Evernote is brilliant - could not navigate life without it!! A feature that I feel is dearly needed and would be tremendous to have is the ability to create an anchor point in notes. eg if I am working on a lengthy note and constantly referring to other notes at the same time I want the ability to specify a point where I am working in that note so I can go straight back to it. Also, when you open a note it goes straight to the start of the note. You always have to scroll down to the bottom of the note to add to it. Many thanks for any comments.

Please try these steps to fix this issue: Select File > Exit to close Evernote Open the task manager to confirm Evernote is not running as a background process (select "Evernote and End task") Open 'regedit' (Windows key + R, then type regedit) Expand the HKEY_CURRENT_USER folder Expand the "Software" folder Expand the Evernote Folder Click on the second "Evernote folder" so that a list of Values displays on the right Right-Click "EnableHardwareAcceleration" Select "Modify" Set Hexidecimal Value to "0" Select File>Exit to exit the Registry Editor Reopen Evernote Please let me know if the issue continues after completing the steps above.     Feature Request: Add Outlining Capabilities to Evernote Evernote is great, but it's dying for the ability to create Notes that contain Outlines which are easily collapsed and expanded during creation and in use. One way to implement it would be a switchable editing mode, between standard formatting or outline mode. In outline mode, pressing the Enter key creates a new outline item, and pressing the Tab key changes the current item into a sub-item. Clicking on an item's action icon causes its sub-items to collapse out of, or expand into view. That's the way the Ecco Pro PIM did it, and something simple like that would be a good start for Evernote. The name Evernote implies a product that takes notes -and collapsible/expandable outlines are a huge part of note taking.

    REQUEST – It would be amazing to have a feature where an image can be selected, and when you right-click (ie, the same way you rotate it, etc.) there could also be an option to override the "largest smallest-dimension" algorithm and set that image as the note's thumbnail. A little background –– One thing I use EN for very heavily is as an artist database for my job. I really like having both a photo of the artist and an example of their artwork at the top of their card. However, when I'm scrolling through snippet or card view, it would be really helpful to have the image of their artwork always be the one to show up. This usually happens but there are a few times where the photo of the artist is used instead. I've read up on the algorithm that chooses the image with the "largest smallest-dimension" (PS, see what I did there with the hyphen? Way clearer that way.) and I am actually OCD enough to try to amend the file sizes to have the algorithm pick the right one. However, even this doesn't seem to work – it's probably me because I guess an algorithm can't lie, but even when I resize the images, it's still not choosing the right one. So my question is – why would that be happening? Could it be that once EN's algorithm chooses an image, it always chooses that filename even when the size changes? But what would be SO MUCH EASIER is my *request* – could there be an override option to the largest smallest-dimension algorithm (which I agree does work at least half of the time for me) to choose a thumbnail? I'm not talking some fancy thing in the settings where you tell EN how to pick your thumbnails – that sounds like way more work than it's worth. I just imagine, like I've said above, having the image you want to be the thumbnail highlighted/selected, then right click (in the same way that you can rotate an image, etc.) and have something like "set as note thumbnail." Please?? Thank you!

First, we will be enabling a feature called Best Answer that will enable the person that starts a thread to mark a specific reply/comment as the ‘Best Answer’. This will then mark the thread as ‘answered’, and enable other users to quickly see that the question has been answered. To mark a reply as a Best Answer simply click on the 'check mark' icon in upper left hand corner of the post you're marking: When marked with a Best Answer, the thread will look like this: Then, you can see the 'Best Answer' clearly marked in list of forum posts: Our hope is that the Best Answer feature will better enable users who are asking questions to get the information they’re looking for, while also enabling users that have similar questions to find that same information more easily. Secondly, we’ve received a lot of feedback on the similarities between the FAQ’s and Best Practices sections. As there is a lot of overlap between the two, we’ll be merging the FAQ’s and Best Practices into a single forum under the banner FAQ's: Best Answers Moving forward, the FAQ's: Best Answers section of the forums will become a repository for the Best Answers we see in the other parts of the forums. Essentially, think of the FAQ's: Best Answers sections as a sort of best answers hall of fame.

    Hi folks, I lead the security team at Evernote. If you, or the people in your network receive an email from Evernote mentioning that we’ve detected suspicious activity, please know that this is not a hoax or spam message; it’s from us. The Evernote service and our apps are still secure; however, we discovered an unauthorized person testing a list of usernames and passwords that they stole from a site not associated with Evernote. If this person had the correct password for your account, they connected an iPhone app to it; and then used that app to search for cryptocurrency credentials. You need to take some actions to protect access to your account. Change your password to a unique one. Make it one that isn’t easy to guess. Make it one that you don’t use on another web site. Consider using a password manager to keep track of your passwords. Revoke any Authorized Applications that you are suspicious about or that accessed your account from an IP address you don’t know Install an anti-malware application on your computer and run it periodically to clean up any known malware. Setup two-factor authentication on your account, especially if you don’t want to use a unique password on your Evernote account. Then, even if someone learns your password, they won’t be able to access your account without also stealing your phone.

    I love Evernote, but it's preventing me from putting in sensitive content. For example, I can't keep a personal journal notebook, because other people (i.e. girlfriend, family members, etc.) could one day be looking at those notes, especially since they know that I use Evernote often for many purposes. Evernote already has the ability to encrypt single notes. This is useful for things like storing passwords or other temporary sensitive content. But it's not practical to encrypt many notes one by one. I wish I could password-protect a whole notebook. This way, I can do a lot more with Evernote. If I can encrypt single notes, then why can't Evernote just allow me to encrypt entire notebooks? If reason behind this is because Evernote thinks one could lose a lot of data if a notebook password is forgotten, then perhaps Evernote can help recover the passwords through email. In the meantime, I'm stuck with using other apps (i.e. Pages, Day One, etc) to password-protect my content. Any insight is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Member Level Criteria: Updated (Jan 29, 1019) Our community’s member levels are determined by commenting activity—when you reach a certain level, you are automatically placed into a new group with a new member title. (To see the badges associated with each level, go here) Guest - New User/Not logged in Level 1 - 0-9 posts; Must have first post approved by Admin Level 2 - 10-99 posts Level 3 -100+ posts Level 4 - 300+ posts; 50+ Reputation Points; Admin Approval Level 5 - 500+; 75+ Reputation Points; Admin Approval Member Level Access/Perks: Guest (New User/0 Posts) - User has not, or is not, signed in and may only be browsing. They cannot create or reply to posts, use any forum features, and they will only have ‘view’ access. Once a user signs in or registers with an account and posts, they will be automatically upgraded to Level 1 status. Level 1 (0-9 posts)- Once a user signs in, their first attempted post must be verified by an Admin. Once their first post is approved, they will be able to post content that will be immediately viewable to the forum community. Additionally, Level 1 cannot post more than 5 times in one day, start more than 5 conversations/PM's in a day, cannot message more than 1 recipient in a conversation/PM at one time, and are limited to 5 reactions per day. On their 10th successful post, they will be automatically upgraded to Level 2 status. Level 2 (10-99 posts) - Have all permissions available to Level 1. Additionally, they do not have content post, conversation, messaging, or reaction limits. On their 100th successful post, they will be automatically upgraded to Level 3 status. Level 3 (100+ posts) - Have all permissions available to Level 2. Additionally, Level 3 users can use profile signatures. After achieving 300 posts, and a reputation score of 50 points, they will be upgraded to Level 4 after admin approval. Level 4 (300+ posts; 50+ Reputation Points; Admin Approval) - Have all permissions available to Level 3. Additionally, Level 4 users can report content for direct review by Evernote Staff. Level 5 (500+ posts; 75+ Reputation Points; Admin Approval)- Have all permissions and moderator powers available to Level 4. Additionally, their posts and replies will be highlighted. Reporting and Moderation: Reporting Posts (Available to Level 4/5) - Reporting posts flags content and places it in a review queue. At that time, the person who is flagging the content can add a note about why they are flagging the content. Once in that queue, a member of the Evernote Staff will review the content and any notes, and determine what needs to be done. Update: Due to a technical limitation, these rules will not retroactively affect your account to upgrade your member level.     Hi All, We are making some changes to the member-leveling system in the discussion forums. Moving forward, we will no longer use the speciality naming conventions, and have moved to a numerical level system. You can find a comparison of the naming changes below. Nomenclature Chart: Old Name: New Name: Guest Guest Member Level 1 Member + Level 2 Noteworthy Level 3 Guru Level 4 Super Guru Level 5 Why are we making these changes? Simplifying the nomenclature to a numerical system will make a user’s contribution more easy to recognize Specialized group names can cause confusion, and often become stale or outdated over time Internally, simplifying the level system makes it easier to manage/update community assets like member-level names, badge updates, etc when newer changes/updates are necessary Member-Level Badge Changes: Along with changes to the naming conventions, you will also see a change to the user badges. You can see the new badges in the table below. Please note, ONLY paid Evernote employees/staff members will have the Evernote Staff badge. Additionally, all former employees will have the Evernote Alumni badge to signify that they were previously employed with Evernote. Guests do not have a badge.

    If you could add this feature, it would make my life complete!!!! So it would be a reminder/alarm at a regular period ie. every Monday at 10am, the last day of each month, every day at midday etc. etc.

    Dear All, I really would love to see a solution for archiving notes. I've been using for 4 years and now I have some notes that I want to keep in the system, but want to remove from my search. As time goes, my search are getting more difficult to separate valid information and archived information. Like we have Notes, Notebook, Tags, Atlas, Market and Premium button on the Mac version, I dream with an Archive button. Every note I move to this icon will make it not searchable, unless I'm searching inside the Archive View. You could even move a completely Notebook. I have many scenarios where this is valid, some of them here: You finished a graduation course full of notes and you want these notes in a place that you may need but normally it will not be part of your search or have a distract visual in All Notes ViewYou closed a company and want all the notes in a special placeYou may not want to have this Archive notes in your local hard disk, unless you click "Download"You prepare for a vacation and suddenly canceled. You want to have this hide in some place but not displaying all the time. I think it would be a great feature. Thank you, Patrick Santana

    This is a very, very, long-standing HTML feature, and oh so very useful for long notes. Two features I see essential for long (more than one page/screen) notes: Anchors/bookmarks Collapsible sections Both have been available in web pages since the early days of the web (late 1990's). ATTN: Evernote/ @Jackolicious, @SoftwareMarcus, @Justin Street: Come on, this is the very definition of productivity!

    hi it would be quite nice to support right to left writing direction for languages such as Hebrew, Arabic and Persian. it is really hard to write and read when writing in left to right in those languages. thanks.

    Two features to greatly improve the note writing and organization experience: Header Styles – Standard header styles, such as Title, Sub-title, Header 1, etc. Medium, Google Docs, and Slack Posts all are great examples of this. You should be able to select these header styles using a click of a button. The current workaround is painful: change font size for the header line, then change font size again to start writing in the smaller font. Note Outline – Once you create headers, these headers can then become a note outline that can easily be navigated. Look to Google Docs for a great example of this. This would greatly help my ability to navigate my more lengthy notes. Please see screenshots below. Hope you consider this! It would be awesome!

    I am not a huge fan of the great amount of light grey text. It is hard to read for people who are not 20-year-old programmers using a huge screen. I get that it is useful for unavailable menu items, but text should be black for available menu items which is not the case for e.g. the Insert drop down menu. Also, notes snippet would be better readable with darker text with not only the heading in black.

This was done to help us centralize Evernote Beta announcements, as well as the feedback, thoughts, and questions from users specifically regarding Evernote Beta versions, into one location. Also, for those of you who have tested the Evernote Beta for Android in the past, we've moved that Google + community here as Google will no longer be supporting the Google + communities in the future. Please note that these structural changes only affect Evernote Beta announcements, and any announcements regarding GA releases for the Evernote Clients will continue to appear in their regular locations.     I'm trying my best to be honest and give what information I can. I'm not an official spokesperson in any way. Just an employee who genuinely cares about our customers wants and needs. I try my best to vocalize concerns raised in the forums and bubble up issues to people when necessary. However, I always need to make sure I'm not "revealing our hand" in such a way that a competitor might be tipped off to our future plans. Or in any way to jeopardize my job. 🙂 But I can assure you I'm actively pushing for more people to get involved in the conversation with our customers. This forum has gone way too long with virtually no participation from Evernote employees.

    Please increase tags functionality for iOS devices: 1) We need *simple* multi-tag search. 2) We need auto-populate of tag names. 3) We need the tag library to reflect our desktop organization (e.g. order, nesting, etc), just as with Notebooks. The iOS apps are horridly crippled without these functions in place. Without them, you have only a few options: 1) Do without multi-tag filtering... Do you have something tagged for a person AND as an agenda item (something to talk about next time you see that person)? Too bad, you can only pull up EVERYTHING for that person, which may include years of emails, mtg notes, etc. OR you can pull up EVERYTHING tagged as "agenda", thus including large numbers of items irrelevant to who you are actually standing with. Insert your own example of useful multi-characteristic filtering, then accept that you can't accomplish them. 2) Utilize saved searches... This works perfectly, but causes, as it has caused with my Evernote, your Shortcut list to become monstrously long defeating to some degree the idea of a "shortcut list". In the end, you choose a few definitely needed multi-tag searches and resign yourself to option #1 above for most things. 3) Attempt to use complicated boolean search strings... This works in a highly non-intuitive way AND requires you to remember the exact wording of your desired tags, often difficult in situations where you are looking for a person for instance and don't remember if you listed them as Dan or Daniel. If you utilize an extensive tag list (a strength of the desktop Evernote applications) this works almost never, thus you resort to a few items under option #2, and mostly surrender to option #1. It seems quite strange that this is an unavailable functionality, especially because of how many people tell me it WAS available prior to 2011/2012. It's a very frustrating situation which is crippling the usability of the iOS apps for easy daily use. Please fix, or at least give us some idea of why this oft asked for functionality is still unavailable. Thank you!

    I think Evernote is a fantastic product, especially with the iPhone integration. I currently use a program called UltraRecall because of it's heavy use of subfolders. This makes organizing my data very logical. I was wondering if Evernotes has a way to create subnotebooks under existing notebooks to help group numerious notebooks together? Example Notebooks: Work Clients Customer1 Customer2 Customer3 Customer4 Personal Electronics Web Clips

    I have the current beta installed on my mobile and the search function has stopped working. I have uninstalled and reinstalled and still nothing. When I start a search it looks like it is trying but nothing comes back. Huawei P20 Pro.

    Having done all things IT for many years, it is disheartening not only that this is going on for so long (and making mobile access unusable), but that the official answer is "install this app from a rando third party site / AWS Dropbox, then enter the password that rules your life". Is it legitimate? Most likely. Is it sketchy when messing with your most critical data? Yep. Did someone figure out how we will be notified when we can reinstall from the Play store?

    Hi all! Evernote version 8.20 is now available on the App Store! We welcome any feedback, thanks! It was a day like any other. Until you tried to create a note in a shared notebook, and the app suddenly crashed. You fell to your knees, pounded your fists on the floor, and cried out in despair, “Whyyy? Why, in the name of all that is good and decent, can’t they just fix that?” We’ve got great news: we fixed that.

    With a bug this serious, Evernote should have rolled back code in its entirety to the previous version 1 hour after discovering the bug, in my opinion. If one uses Evernote as it was intended, designed, and marketed, it's simply unusable without a functioning search. One can't use a second brain if one has no idea how to find anything in it.

    It may be that some folks are looking so desperately for an Evernote replacement that they're rushing to judgement on something which looks shiny and new. The most important thing (IM - not exactly - HO) is that whatever solution you choose, whether it's Keep or Notion or Bear or Evernote, it has to work for you. That's the only test. If you're happy with a method of working, it's not my place to tell you that you could, or should, change it. I keep on getting asked questions elsewhere about "what's the best...way / app / method / etc" and my stock answer is: I don't know. I know what works for me - Evernote in my specific case, (plus - in no specific order - Airtable, Filterize, Freeplane, MSOffice, RightNote and Google). But for everyone else - why don't you try what's available and see which you get on with best? In my experience of changing between to-do apps on a regular basis, I can more or less guarantee that all the players in the 'note taking' field (that is such a limited description!) will be catching up with each other in various ways - feature A will shine at one app, and then the others will catch up and one of the competition will now have feature B! Evernote's competition do have an unfair advantage - they're able to poach the development that Evernote pioneered and jump in with an almost perfect first product; and they can develop from there. Evernote has 250M(??) users and a heck of a bandwidth issue as all their connected devices check back with Home Base on a regular basis. They have a huge operation that runs - relatively - smoothly. Changes (as windows Desktop users found out recently) can cause disruption. And Evernote users (you may have noticed) are not shy of sharing their opinions and derision when things go wrong. Evernote is rightfully cautious of upsetting any apple carts in their development work - and they're normally fairly good at succeeding. So. I'm staying in touch with developments - I subscribed to both Filterize and Rightnote this year thanks to the Forums - I watch the webinars on Notion and other solutions, and fantasise about the interactive database / spreadsheet / calendar / personal assistant that I could probably build... if I spent some time getting thoroughly familiar with the environment, and then converted 45K notes... or I could just get on with my work. My view thus far - if it works, really - don't fix it!

    @mdezrin Though I'm not actually in customer support, I believe the discussion forums are currently intended to be the way in which free users can seek help for issues they are having, or to provide feedback to the Evernote team. I personally wish there were better ways, but I think it comes down to costs. Providing personalized customer support is expensive and due to the sheer size of our free user base, I believe it is cost-prohibitive at this moment. This approach is pretty standard across a lot of internet companies with very large, free customer bases. I've been doing my best to try to get other employees engaged in the discussion boards. Several of our customer support members monitor the boards and respond or triage issues as necessary. But, I think it's invaluable for our non-customer support members to be engaged as well. The posts on here are a great insight into the issues and frustrations that our customers have. I've been able to quickly help address several issues people have run into that would have otherwise been overlooked. I hope this information is helpful. Please continue to provide feedback and I'll do my best to help surface this information to our development teams, specifically the Android team for any beta issues you encounter.

    For editing, the Evernote editor/format is adequate for basic notes I use dedicated editors for serious work; Word/Pages for word processing, Excel/Numbers for spreadsheets, Notability for note-taking on my iPad, ... I am aware of Notion; lots of good editor stuff but imho it does not do a better job at document storage/retrieval >>As a senior poster in the forum, you need to reply based on how the 'average evernote user would use the tool'. No, I don't "need to" do any such thing. I am an experienced Evernote user, and I post my ideas of how to best use the product/service.

    I am definitely in the "lots of PDFs but they're relatively small" camp, and use tags and searching without much issue. However, I definitely have a lot of manuals, genealogy information, etc. in my database that can be scores of pages inside one PDF. When possible, I actually try to break those out into separate PDFs and separate notes to help chunk it out into better lumps for organizing. I also rely pretty heavily on the annotation summary you can enable when annotating a PDF. It adds little snippets at the top of the PDF showing the edits and annotations you've made and what page they're on. So, when I add PDFs that are huge (like the one below), I make sure to edit and annotate it to show the bits that are important in the PDF at the top as a point of reference. Example:

    @GNito Thanks for reaching out! Yes, you can revoke all devices from the devices settings in Evernote Web. To do so, go here: https://www.evernote.com/Devices.action There, you can force a log out from the devices from one location. Hope this helps!

    Nah, that shouldn't be difficult at all if that stack -> notebook hierarchy was implemented in an optimal way in the first place. I have a degree in computer science and had been working with SQL databases from 2010 to 2014. I don't remember any significant difference difficulty-wise in implementing 2-level vs XX-level parent-child hierarchy. The UI changes also shouldn't be all that difficult to implement. Of course, doing that will require some work, but hey, you gotta work for your money. Now, if there are so many people have been requesting this feature for so long, there must be reasons that are valid enough and you should at least consider hearing them out and maybe even participate in a discussion, come out and tell them why this feature is not worth implementing. Maybe it breaks the core principles of Evernote mission (although I'm not sure how, lol). Now, you're asking why am I requesting this feature. I will tell you. No, my world won't fall apart if it never gets implemented. You see, I just don't like to be dependent on tags too much because they're just not notebooks. Every note can be tagged with many tags but only can belong to one notebook, so it's a more solid structure already. Of course, you might say that it's my problem that I won't stick to just 1 tag per note. But it's kinda limiting. Maybe I want to tag a note with "Summer", "Love" and "Sad" tags but at the same time I want it to be exactly in this Hobbies -> Art -> Music -> Songwriting -> My solo stuff -> Second album hierarchy. Of course, you can always find a thousand of counter-arguments to that, like "you can do basically the same with tags, blah blah blah", but no, it's not the same, even if you can achieve similar results with tags. I'd say just give it a shot and give your users a little bit more freedom. Sorry, it's really late and I'm not an expert in English. I don't really care about being right and continue arguing beyond this message. I just said what I wanted to say, even if it sounded like a complete BS to you guys. I spoke from my heart EDIT: Yeah, maybe convert those stacks to notebooks so that even the root object would be able to hold the notes in it. As well as notebooks. Basically what I'm suggesting is a folder-file approach, just like in Windows Explorer. We all know that notebooks in real life don't hold "sub-notebooks" in them but maybe make a poll and see if users would like this approach and you could get away with this concept. I'm not gonna suggest renaming notebooks to folders and files altogether as that will obviously make the brand name "Evernote" irrelevant

    Hi there, Fujitsu has updated drivers for certain scanners they manufacture, but they have not yet updated the drivers for the ScanSnap Evernote Edition Scanner. Fujitsu is the hardware manufacturer of this device and they have updated the drivers for each device after an OS update. We're in discussion with Fujitsu but do not have an estimate on when to expect these drivers to be available if you have already updated to macOS Mojave.

    Evernote 6.13.14 for Windows I was just updating some tech notes, and went to make a note about a drive letter and the EN editor replaced my "D:" with a small black rectangle. I presume this was supposed to be an automatic text formatting element, and I can't think of anything else this might be except for a frowny emoji? I've tried searching the forums and can't find much on this, except for people asking for emoji support. I've also tried disabling the Automatically format text elements option, but that didn't help with this. Is there a way to turn this off that I'm missing?

    The way it is presented is slightly different, though the font size should be the same. We now allow you to specify the font and font size for the title. That was the only reasonable way to get all character glyphs to show correctly. (I'm not aware of any standard Windows font that has all unicode characters. Text is hard.)

    Hi , I think it is would be cool and useful if the Table in evernote could do some basic Calculation like excel , no need so complex like what excel do , but some calculation between cell. This can Help a lot when someone want to sum the value of ingredient for example or many things that need some basic calculation . Well , that is what tables usually used for , isn't it . It would be much help rather than manually calculate the value one by one in the table . Hope you would reconsider this Idea , Thank you .

    Fujitsu, the manufacturer of the ScanSnap Evernote Edition Scanner is working on making the scanner's software and hardware drivers fully compatible and 64 bit. This is outside of Evernote's control as the drivers are developed by Fujitsu. It is recommended to keep an eye on the device manufacturer's compatibility page to wait until they confirm full compatibility with that OS before updating, to hopefully not encounter an OS update causing issues with your hardware in the future. For the installation issues it sounds like you're encountering, please first check your Applications folder on your Mac to ensure the ScanSnap Manager Evernote Edition software is not already installed. We've heard some similar reports of this. Past this, please ensure Evernote is also installed first before installing the ScanSnap Manager Evernote Edition software. I've followed up in your support ticket to further troubleshoot.

    Evernote Wizards. Please, give us a dark theme. My eyes are bleeding with how bright your default theme is. (both web & desktop) No suprise, it is mostly white.     I think it's obvious, at this point, that Evernote users want the ability to select the default thumbnail for notes. I agree that it seems ridiculous that this conversation started in 2013 and 4 years later this hasn't been added to the application. As a visual person, the thumbnail helps me quickly find what I'm looking for. For example, when I'm looking for a recipe for pancakes, an image of the video (pertaining to the recipe) of two cooks doesn't help me find what I'm looking for. I need to be able to select the pic of the stack of pancakes. The whole purpose for using Evernote is to be able to organize things so that they are easily found/accessed. I'm confused why this isn't already an option. This seems so simple to implement. Can we get some love on this issue?!
