I've finally bitten the bullet (and a chewy bullet it is too) and updated to v. 6.15 of the Windows program, skipping over the bugginess of versions 6.8 and following. One thing I knew was that some keyboard shortcuts had changed in the interval, so I just went through the whole set. I found that there are several that are still undocumented in the online Help article on shortcuts. Here are the ones I found: Application-wide: Ctrl + Shift + I = Display Note Info (no longer starts a new Ink note) Application-wide: Shift + Alt + T = Search Tags (not Jump to Tags, as the documentation says, unless that's meant to be the same thing) Editor: Ctrl + Shift + Up Arrow / Down Arrow = Make selected text superscript/subscript (see a post by @emerick here) Editor: Tab at end of table to insert new row (not documented in the Help article on tables either) Left Panel & Note List: use of Tab / Shift + Tab to move among panels Note List: Ctrl + Alt + L = Copy Internal Link to the clipboard Note List: Not really a keyboard shortcut, but really useful info that doesn't seem to be documented anywhere (except this post by @CalS): Right click a note and press Ctrl when selecting Copy Internal Link to copy an external link to the clipboard, that is, a link that will open the note in the Evernote program from elsewhere in Windows (e.g., a desktop shortcut or a link in a document) @Shane D., sorry to flag you down, but I wonder if these could be passed along to whoever works on documentation and help. Evernote has a great set of shortcuts, but undocumented ones aren't too useful.

Hi All, I'm very excited to announce that we have officially increased the Notebook limit from 250 to 1,000 for all paid tiers. You can see those new limits here: https://help.evernote.com/hc/articles/209005247 We will likely lock this thread soon so if you have any thoughts/questions feel free to reach out to me directly if you're unable to share those here in time!

REQUEST – It would be amazing to have a feature where an image can be selected, and when you right-click (ie, the same way you rotate it, etc.) there could also be an option to override the "largest smallest-dimension" algorithm and set that image as the note's thumbnail. A little background –– One thing I use EN for very heavily is as an artist database for my job. I really like having both a photo of the artist and an example of their artwork at the top of their card. However, when I'm scrolling through snippet or card view, it would be really helpful to have the image of their artwork always be the one to show up. This usually happens but there are a few times where the photo of the artist is used instead. I've read up on the algorithm that chooses the image with the "largest smallest-dimension" (PS, see what I did there with the hyphen? Way clearer that way.) and I am actually OCD enough to try to amend the file sizes to have the algorithm pick the right one. However, even this doesn't seem to work – it's probably me because I guess an algorithm can't lie, but even when I resize the images, it's still not choosing the right one. So my question is – why would that be happening? Could it be that once EN's algorithm chooses an image, it always chooses that filename even when the size changes? But what would be SO MUCH EASIER is my *request* – could there be an override option to the largest smallest-dimension algorithm (which I agree does work at least half of the time for me) to choose a thumbnail? I'm not talking some fancy thing in the settings where you tell EN how to pick your thumbnails – that sounds like way more work than it's worth. I just imagine, like I've said above, having the image you want to be the thumbnail highlighted/selected, then right click (in the same way that you can rotate an image, etc.) and have something like "set as note thumbnail." Please?? Thank you!

LOL! Almost eight years has passed and still you get ***** cluttered notes because you are not able to do anything about the line spacing.. incredible!

I'm not sharing much stuff now either. There was a time when I did, and I'd like to, but it became too much of a hassle. If I were a business user, I think I'd either have to sit down and get myself sorted, or I'd be on Evernote's case about it. As an individual, though, my biggest issues are elsewhere, so it isn't something I'm losing sleep over. Returning to the thread topic, I'd be thrilled to have monthly podcasts and perhaps a monthly rollout of a major bug fix / existing feature improvement.

I have been looking for an Evernote replacement for a long period of time. Do not get me wrong Evernote has great tools, but it has some limitations, like no markdown, online-only requirement in the free version, and two-device limit. Until I found Joplin.

I was following this thread and received an email. Nothing odd about it.

I've all but stopped using Evernote as a result. I use it once in a while to dump research in files, but I needed my notes to be neat, so I moved elsewhere.

FYI: The next release will address this. The powers-that-be finally relented! Never have I been so happy to rip out code I wrote... Once removed, it will stay gone. There will no longer be special code that says "It's time to annoy the user again" (yes, I had a comment in the code to that said that)

@Dave-in-Decatur Thanks so for much for this! I've reached out to our specialist to update the article. Let me know if you have any other questions!

I just tried the BETA version today, and I like the overall feel. However, unless I'm missing something, Tags are a mess! I spent A LOT of time organizing my tags into categories/titles and now they are just a massive list in alphabetical order. It pretty much makes them useless for the way I use Evernote and tags.
  12. 1 point
  13. 1 point
[note] F4: apply the latest formatting option used. [note] shift+click on tag: refine the list to show the notes tagged only (and keep context). shift+click again on the tag to toggle the behavior.
  14. 1 point
What context does this refer to? Is this a menu item, a toolbar button? If you're referring to a note, each note can have an associated URL. The web clipper will populate this for you automatically, but you can edit this field on your own, usually using the Note Info facility, which will vary depending on what your OS/platform is.

For Windows, the only option is an external scripting tool such as AHK or PhraseExpress, and even then, you're not bulk updating reminders, just individually updating them faster because you can use the keyboard and avoid the mouse.
  16. 1 point
Hmmn. Haven't seen that one so far in my travels in Windowsland... I may owe you a beverage of your choice; thanks!!

...unless you're using the new Chrome (and Vivaldi) -only web beta, which has a three dots menu...

Whatever, works fine for me. Horses for courses. I use saved searches for dated reminders (some triggered by hot keys) and the tag drop for GTD/TSW. This works well with the left panel closed, which I hardly have open anyway. All the saved searches have a saved view, sorted by reminder time. So click-click or hotkey for reminders list of tasks and click-click for tags list of tasks Not so many items on either list I can't manage the process. Searches and tags all start with exclamation point so they float to the top of the lists.

I agree that this is not present in the Web interface. The otherwise helpful article to which @gazumped linked says, "Click the Options menu (three dots) in the upper right corner, select Save as template...." But that option does not appear anywhere in the Web interface when viewing or editing a note, as far as I can tell. It is present in the Windows program and the Android app.

Thanks a lot! It works fine in this version. Hope they fix it in the new versions.

I've been using Evernote for years. Unfortunately, with the price increases as of late I've had to create new accounts so I can apply a student discount each year. To me, the service is worth every drop of its $45 a month, but I just couldn't justify spending $90 on it here in Canada. Especially not when Office is about the same price and you get so much more bang for your buck. Anyway, while I may appear as a relatively new user here, I've been on this forum for I don't know, at least five maybe seven years. I was using Evernote to house notes for school, work, and personal use. This is because I went back to school taking online courses while working a full-time job. Now that I am done school, I thought I would give another system a try and see if I could ween myself off Evernote. I had been using Bear for a couple of months on iOS and my Macs at home, and OneNote at work. OneNote is pretty good - and I do share notes with coworkers...I will continue to use it in that respect. But there are a few things that drive me nuts about OneNote too. 1) Having to sync individual notebooks - it's not one big, beautiful sync package like Evernote. I don't want to have to remember if I saved one Notebook on OneDrive and another on the network drive at work. 2) Annotating documents and images doesn't work for me. It's great that I can highlight a document and take notes, but the minute I move objects in the note around, the document moves while all my markups stay in place -- they're two separate layers. I much prefer Evernote's "stay where I put you" approach. 3) The "type anywhere, just not here" editor. It's a free editor in that you can click anywhere, but too often it wouldn't let me put the cursor right where I wanted. Likewise with saving attachments. It wouldn't let me save the icons in a row, and it would jostle them around the screen at random. So while I left for a bit - and even posted a story about it on this forum - I'm now back. I've been given some additional responsibilities at work and the thought of annotating PDF's in OneNote was enough to make me reconsider. Then I remembered how superior the web clipper is to anything else on the market and how I'll be researching a vacation soon and I realized, I have to come back. Bear is good on iOS, but still not quite up to par with the features of Evernote. For personal use it makes total sense, but for heavy documents and business use, not so much. Especially in a Windows environment ? Great app though. There may be troubles in the front office, and they may still be trying to figure out how to monetize the thing properly, but my god - even with it's faults it's just SO POWERFUL. I hope they can turn it around, and I hope they sort everything out. I also hope there's a way to do that and still offer premium for the more reasonable price of $45 a year. At that cost it's an absolute no-brainer -- at almost $100, even guys (and gals) like me who appreciate what it can do, well - we have to think long and hard about it's value at that point, powerful as the app may be.

I use the delete icon in the main toolbar, not the note toolbar. Options for note toolbar are below.

I just want to add my voice to this thread as well. I am a long time paying Evernote customer (more than 9 years now), and often recommend it to colleagues and associates, many of whom have gone on to become paying customers as well. But this latest UI redesign where you collapsed everything under a single button now adds multiple clicks to my daily workflow. I add multiple notes a day for research purposes and use the Note Information area to add URLs of articles and other information I am putting into my notebooks. It was cumbersome enough to have to go under the Info button, but now it's two clicks! Please bring back the old ribbon style layout as shown below! This is one upgrade that you've done that is simply not good.

Bring back the Trash note and Reminder icons. Absolutely moronic to have buried those in favor of Share.
  26. 1 point
I agree with most comments here that the new Toolbar is a step back with regard to user-friendliness. Please give us back the delete and reminder buttons. Those are among the most used parts of the toolbar and have been taken away. Without even the possibility of dragging them back in from the options! As a long-term premium user I am really upset about this. Bad thinking. And also: please allow us to get rid of ugly green SHARE button in the right corner. Cheers, Joris

Seconded. How is this a good use of space? And really, what on earth is going on over there? I follow these threads closely—too closely—and upon every release a crop of new issues always arises. Time to really consider porting out my data, especially as Evernote increases in price, yet delivers more bugs with each release.

In the area where you can add a link, instead of just being able to add a weblink, id like to be able to search through notes and add a link that way. It would save me a few steps of finding the link and then pasting it in.

As many others have written, I'm also very unhappy with the reminders hidden behind another click. In never share notes and use reminders all the time. Also: As mentioned frequently in this forum: Why is there no keyboard shortcut for adding reminders? Another new interface issue in 7.5 is visible in the following screenshot. There is plenty of space right there. Why does the name of the Notebook need to be abbreviated after ONE Letter? For me 7.5. is another step backwards in usability.

I'm here to support others who are underwhelmed by the sore thumb that is the big, green, non-essential, and utterly unmoveable SHARE button that now occupies my brain every time I simply wish to write an idea. Our notes do not need call to action buttons. More is not more. At the very least please provide those who prefer a simpler look the option to keep it so. ? ??

Please return note's Reminder icon to the old place. I use reminders a lot. Because the most of my notes are tasks with deadlines. Now I should make more clicks and mouse movements to add reminder. No reasons to do this way.
  32. 1 point
I agree. @Evernote: May I suggest that you thoroughly test and get user feedback on changes to long-established UI BEFORE you publish a GA release? Just because some new kid on the Dev Team thinks it is a good idea because it follows some esoteric UI guidelines, does NOT make it so. IMO, you should NEVER change well-established UI without very good cause to do so, and without thorough end-user testing. SW development 101.

I use the top right-hand corner a lot to annotate various files... now it is a two-step process and the share button is huge. This is just making the workflow worse and I absolutely do not like this. I also don't understand the logic behind this. On the other hand, there should be a button that allows to share the note via email... right now, it is hidden and is a two step process...
  34. 1 point
No, unfortunately not. I’ll try writing to them about it.
  35. 1 point
You made simply deleting a note a two action process by hiding it under the (“…”)!! This is the worst idea ever... I obviously am deleting notes all the time to clean up... and now you are doubling my time for this most basic function??? I am soo annoyed right now.. and i've been a paid user for almost 10 years... seriously put the delete note icon back on the note! This is an unacceptable change!

Hi All, Many of you have asked for templates and we’re thrilled to announce that they’re here! In the past, we’ve offered templates in the form of sample notes that you can copy to a notebook, then duplicate to reuse. While this has been a popular workaround for a long time, we feel templates deserve an easier solution and better home in our product. Now we offer a way to quickly find and apply a template when you create a new note. You can pull from our gallery of 30+ pre-designed templates and save them to your account. In addition, if you subscribe to Plus, Premium, or Business, you can turn any of your existing notes into templates. Your personal template gallery can be accessed from any new note by clicking the Templates button. From there you can find templates on our website, search your saved templates, edit template names, delete templates from your account, and apply templates to a note. You can find more information here: Blog post How-to Videos There’s more to come for templates, so stay tuned. As always, please feel free to start a separate discussion for feedback/suggestions, or feel free to reach out to me directly!

So, you have no idea and no information then. ‘Beliefs’ are not facts, no matter how many times you repeat them. To everyone else, Evernote is doing yet another round of funding and that’s not good news as far as Evernote Inc goes, but I wouldn’t worry about losing anything as if things get bad enough another company will buy it - which may be the best thing that’s ever happened.

Maybe I'm missing something but I'm perplexed by all these posts, especially those urging Evernote to create a Clipper implementation for Brave. (Maybe it's because most of these posts are old?) Under the current Dev Build (BRAVE) there should, as far as I know, be no problem installing the Clipper because it thinks it's installing in Chrome. Or is there something about the Clipper that makes it different from other browser extensions?

@DTLow response is correct (i.e. accessing the "Notebooks" functionality and right-clicking on a notebook to expose the menu) and works in the Mac app. However, the interface is not intuitive and the sidebar must be minimized (not hidden or expanded) in order to access the notebook functionality (and only by left-clicking on a notebook does the "Notebooks" functionality appear, right-clicking displays a menu that does not include "Add to stack..."). This is menu when right-clicking on an expanded sidebar notebook: This is the menu when right-clicking on a minimized sidebar notebook: I agree with many of the commenters here: the available functionality and navigation in the app (at least in a Mac) is not intuitive and I am frequently forced to Google answers to seemingly simple tasks (for example, adding a notebook to a stack). There may be constraints that are limiting interactivity, but revisiting the UX and either delivering consistent right-click functionality across all sidebar states or removing right-click functionality and simplifying in-app navigation to provide access to these features would, in my opinion, improve user experience and reduce user frustration.

Hi, I want to be able to link to other notes directly using the link button in the formatting panel. Currently, I have to navigate to the note I want to link to, copy its "internal link" which takes many clicks to get, go back to the original note, find the place that I want to link again, click the "Link" button, and paste the internal link. It's very cumbersome. Ideally, I would be able to search for the name of the note I want in the "Link" dropdown menu (see attachment) and just pick the right one to link to another note directly. Also, it'd be great if I can call the linking function using shortcut keys such as Command + K. This would save me the actions to switch to the mouse while typing and click the "Link" button to call the linking function.

How big of a file is it? Looks like a decent size recording. Maybe that is the issue? Not sure, just trying to brainstorm. I would try saving the file to a folder and then moving it to a new note to see if it made any change. Do other recordings have the same issue or is it just this file?
  42. 1 point
I echo above frustrations. I am making do but it's only a matter of time before I make the switch if this trend continues.

When I switched to a Mac over a year ago, I was looking forward to see how Evernote would be even smoother than it was on my PC. Boy, was I disappointed. Evernote is frustrating to use now...even considering leaving it. I don't understand...wasn't Evernote originally built for a Mac platform? Maybe I'm wrong about that. Not sure.
  44. 1 point
When you work across platforms on the same product it shouldn't be this hard and certainly not worse when working with it on the Mac but it is! Come on Evernote sort this out please!!

I echo this frustration. I used to be able to drag and drop on the Mac and now I can't find the option to combine a new folder into an existing stack. Why?
  47. 1 point
I just went from PC to Mac and loss of this functionality is a game changer. Please fix.
  48. 1 point
I find many Evernote tasks on a Mac very frustrating and counterintuitive.
  49. 1 point
As a premium user, this has been one of my biggest frustrations. I frequently crate a new notebook in a stack. On a PC, this is easy- just right click on the stack and the option to create the new notebook in the stack appears. On a Mac, there is nothing there! I hate having to go to Notebooks view, find the stack I want, and THEN finally control click to add a notebook to the stack. PLEASE bring this functionality to the Mac!
  50. 1 point
DTLow...thanks for responding. I finally did figure that out but my question remains why it is such an awkward task. As I said in my original post, in the PC version it's quick, simple, and intuitive.
