Dear All, I really would love to see a solution for archiving notes. I've been using for 4 years and now I have some notes that I want to keep in the system, but want to remove from my search. As time goes, my search are getting more difficult to separate valid information and archived information. Like we have Notes, Notebook, Tags, Atlas, Market and Premium button on the Mac version, I dream with an Archive button. Every note I move to this icon will make it not searchable, unless I'm searching inside the Archive View. You could even move a completely Notebook. I have many scenarios where this is valid, some of them here: You finished a graduation course full of notes and you want these notes in a place that you may need but normally it will not be part of your search or have a distract visual in All Notes ViewYou closed a company and want all the notes in a special placeYou may not want to have this Archive notes in your local hard disk, unless you click "Download"You prepare for a vacation and suddenly canceled. You want to have this hide in some place but not displaying all the time. I think it would be a great feature. Thank you, Patrick Santana

Hi all, Evernote is brilliant - could not navigate life without it!! A feature that I feel is dearly needed and would be tremendous to have is the ability to create an anchor point in notes. eg if I am working on a lengthy note and constantly referring to other notes at the same time I want the ability to specify a point where I am working in that note so I can go straight back to it. Also, when you open a note it goes straight to the start of the note. You always have to scroll down to the bottom of the note to add to it. Many thanks for any comments.

Quite often when i search for a word in notes, i will get "no results" or a few notes, but not all the notes with that word in it. The note i am looking for will _absolutely_ have the word in the note. LIke, i will have a note called "bacon recipes" and the text of the note will say "something something bacon", but if i search for "bacon" i get "no results". I can try searching the particular folder or "all notes" with the same results. Putting the word in quotes doesnt help. I have to manually scroll through the folder(s) looking for the note i want (which will be there). It is obviously very obnoxious that one of the whole reasons to use evernote is broken. I am also having another problem searching that i might post separately. A while ago my evernote stopped searching through text in images. It doesnt do it at all anymore. Most of my images with text are clearly pictured documents with printed text, so there is no excuse of bad handwriting or bad lighting making them illegible. How do i get it to search images again? Also, Evernote doesnt seem to want to search through titles anymore. Or sometimes it does, sometimes it doesnt. Does anyone have any ideas of what to do? This is really unacceptable. ------------------------------- Edit: Working with windows desktop version. Did update, did delete and reinstall more than once. Was using Windows 8 at the time, now using Windows 10. Was and am a premium subscriber. ------------------------------- Edit: I think i replied to myself somewhere in this thread to tell people the problem was solved, but wanted to add that here too. I ended up having to spend a lot of hours working with Evernote support (thanks guys!) and they had to reindex all my notes on their end. That worked out super well for like 8 months, although now i am encountering the same problems again :(.

I regret to have downloaded the new version of evernote, as now my notebooks are all organized in a list. This does not give a good overview - one has to scroll down + it is an extremely boring layout. The old book form (the little squares) where better in both aspects (going from left to right, it was possible to see many more notebooks on the screen.) My request is to allow users to choose for themselves if they want list or books (just add an icon next to "your list" => sort by => books (instead of only number of notes, etc., names etc.) , and why in addition (later, after this has been solved) do not also work on a version that allow users to add other distinguishing features, depending on their own preferences (shapes, colors,)

It's annoying. Whenever you want to edit text in a cell that is right justified, the dropdown button a portion of it.

Hi there @Wildwookie, Are you still seeing the problem after @DTLow's suggestion? If you you're still seeing it, can you send me your activity logs? 1. In Evernote, hold down the option key on your keyboard and click on Help > Troubleshooting > View All logs. 2. Zip the logs and send them to me via direct message. Thank you,

Same issue on my Windows 10 laptop. Evernote client jumps to 25% cpu usage when in foreground and is slow. At some point closing Slack app helped, but only once, so it was not the reason. Support is not helpfull as well. mlu: did you try newest beta?

Select a note and run the script. You will get a PDF that is a two-column A4. Because you often write your notes in a narrow window, it will look pretty as a two-column PDF.

Hi. Treat Evernote like a web page and print with your browser's print settings.

This pretty much sums it up. Can we get a specific ETA on when the "blank note" issue will be fixed? Having the entire note list go blank constantly is incredibly frustrating. It's been like this for over a month now.

No I don't X out, I just restart. I shouldn't have to do that IMO b/c I don't have to do that with other software. I'll have to get someone to help me put Evernote in the startup menu. Thanks

Yes, the new tables are great looking. But they leave a huge gap on the top and the botton. Before this new feature, I used a single cell table as a title, like when you merge notes. But now it looks horribly, with a huge empty space after the title.

Kremik writes "Search box is toooo small (narrow) if you want to add a notebook to narrow the sarch results it fills the entire field and you can't see what do you search for. " And I want to add my voice in strong agreement, that I find this a crippling change to the interface. I can't imagine what a designer would be thinking there. (Advanced) searching is absolutely critical to non-trivial use of EN, well at least when you've got 1000+ notes, saved searches as search templates, etc. It's quite disheartening when you're hoping for some fixes and all you get is more broken stuff. Help! A great fix would be to have two kinds of search bars in the toolbar customization widget set, a fixed size one, and one that expands like the "Flexible Space".

Regarding the 6.13 final version / Mac. There is a bug in printing: It doesn't print Note titles Search box is toooo small (narrow) if you want to add a notebook to narrow the sarch results it fills the entire field and you can't see what do you search for. I don't know why the font of a notebook and the owner of the note in the Snippet view is sooo big? I like ohter changes, but especially printing bug is a pain

How much memory on your machine? I have two laptops I use, neither of which is all that new. The oldest has 4GB of memory and can run slow from time to time. The newer has 8MB and very rarely runs slow. So memory can have an impact.

Hi. I take it from the context that we're talking Windows here, but as a matter of interest is this 7, 8 or 10? Do you run Evernote from a local hard drive or a network connection? And is the parent drive an SSD, a hybrid or a full platter version. As you may know, this is a (mainly) user-supported forum where you'll get the benefit(?) of my, and other experienced users' suggestions. Evernote staff do read these posts, but they're not support - just developers looking for new ideas and generic issues with various applications . The Support team is available on https://www.evernote.com/SupportLogin.action if you're a paying customer, Twitter - https://twitter.com/evernotehelps if not. You've already done most of the fixes we'd normally suggest, so I'd recommend that you report this to Support if you haven't already done so. Do you monitor your system activity through Task Manager? What level of disk and memory resource is Evernote consuming when it is temporarily AWOL? EDIT: Sorry - it's a weekend, the brain's running slow: there are three other things you could look at. Have a look at Tools > Options > Sync and 'enable on-demand sync' (ODS). You'll be able to either: set the purge note content setting to a low number and allow the app to delete notes from your local drive only* that you haven't looked at in that period, or: exit Evernote with ODS active and rename your existing database. When Evernote rebuilds the file it will be a search index only. I tried the latter method on my own 16GB and occasionally laggy database and had it down to 200MB or less and no lags. But no backups either, other than what's on the server. I went back to a full database, lags and a regular backup. YMMV. *The full database remains in place on the server. Reinstall Evernote again for your user profile only (the default is 'for all users'). One user tried this and was happy with the improvements he saw. I did likewise and saw no difference. Use a Firewall blocker to stop Evernote chatting with its home server. This worked for me, but requires extra faffing.

Try dragging it towards the right margin, when the 'v' dropdown button is, Once you're in a good spot, you should see the button you're dragging, and the '+' mouse cursor. Seems to be a little finicky, but I see it working.

In addition to what @EdH said, see posts by Evernote staffer @dconnet in the following topics: https://discussion.evernote.com/topic/87270-shortcut-for-clip-screenshot-in-win-10/ https://discussion.evernote.com/topic/105893-win-10-clipper-hotkey-not-capturing-screen-clipping-any-other-way-works/ So Win+Shift+S isn't available to Evernote. But you could change it to Win+Ctrl+S right-clicking on the notification area's Evernote icon, and using Options / Configure Shortcut Keys to modify the clipper's shortcut.

TL;DR Recently the webclipper fails to find notes, even when the search phrase appears verbatim in their title. DETAILS The webclipper "related notes" feature is to me one of the biggest advantages of Evernote. Recently however, it usually fails to find anything. As mentioned in [this older thread], it will not show up at all if it cannot find anything, which caused me to think the feature were broken entirely. The suggested solution of using a different search-URL didn't help. REPRODUCIBLE EXAMPLE (POSSIBLY) For example, I have a note called “Rust vs Go / Golang”. If I search Google for “Rust vs Go”, no results are shown. If I search Google for “Rust vs Go / Golang”, the note shows up as expected. Plus some additional results, where “rust” and “go” but not “golang” or “vs” appear in the body of the note, but have no relation to the programming languages – which is funny, since the search for “Rust vs Go” would have matched these notes better than the search for “Rust vs Go / Golang”. For reference, I first had titled the note “Rust vs Go/GoLang” (no spaces around slash) and then renamed it “Rust vs Go / GoLang”, thinking that maybe the search-algorithm fails to treat “Go/GoLang” as two words. This change had no impact at all on the behaviour.

Yeah. I opened my Evernote today at the start of an important meeting and l looked like a chump. I was totally sideswiped. I'm not normally someone who hates on change for change sake but one of the reasons I was happy to take the plunge for a premium account is that the grid (mini notebook) layout is better for me as a spatial reasoning person. The thing that I enjoyed most about this product was that whoever the original designers were seemed to really think like me. It was hyper-intuitive. This is really clunky and off putting. I LOVE the product. You are a major part of my personal life and my business. I guess this is why it feels like such a huge deal to me. Betrayal is a strong word....butima use it. PLEASE PLEASE BRING BACK THE BOOK LAYOUT

I also came here searching for answers to the new notebooks view. I greatly miss the old grid view as it was easy to navigate and organize my 81 notebooks. Why can't we choose between the grid view and list view? The lack of customization seems to be hampering this once great application. I'm hoping for a quick fix to this new update as it seems be an issue for many Evernote users.

Hello, i initially came here for the same request. I absolutely love Evernote, but this new notebooks view is a major step back !! I have more than 50 notebooks, a 24" screen, but i have to scroll 5 times the height of my screen to see all my notebooks. I used to have all my notebooks immediately available without scrolling before this update. Another thing i would like to say, is that i realized now i have no idea whats the first character of the notebook i'm looking for. So i even don't know where to scroll to. I think my brain used to record the column or place where things where.

I hate the new lay-out so much that I might switch platforms for my business. Give us back the notebook view that made Evernote so much easier to find things. This new format sucks.

Dear Evernote team, I absolutely love(d) your app, it changed the way I interact with my computer in so many positive ways and I've always been promoting and recommending it to all of my acquaintances and friends. The removal of the grid/multicolumn viewing option completely destroys the efficient Evernote user experience I had to this point. It may be practical for those who do not have a lot of notebooks, but for those who do - in other words, the real aficionado and loyal Evernote user base - it's a disaster! The lack of a grid/multicolumn view is seriously going to slow down our productivity Please don't do this. You may lose a lot of users (old and new)!!!

I've been trying to fix this for days, thinking it was something I did. Please bring back this option, Evernote is much less useful to me without it.

Interesting thread, but frustrating too. I am not heavy user or power user, but I did go paperless 3 years ago, got scansnap and everything. Now I'm having issues too as described above. I was using the app on my android phone to find what an account number referred to, and nothing came up. Back home on my Windows 10 laptop I did the same search again in the search box. Nothing. Did the Ctrl+q thing nothing. Went into the note I know it was in and a ctrl+F found it instantly, before I even finished typing it. I pay for a premium account for mainly this feature and to search inside my scanned images, but this has become a nightmare. I thought it was me for a long time and tried harder to use search tools, but for simple un complicated things like this, it should work. I NEED a reliable search if I am going to do this whole paperless thing. I am based in England and if our tax people want to audit me, how can I comply when I cannot gain meaningful access to my documents? I do not want some complex sequence to fix this, I just want a remote patch that makes it all work again as I seem to remember it did when I first got into it. Martin UK

I'm having the same issue. On multiple occasions, I've searched my notes for the title of a note that I know I've saved and it doesn't find it. Then when I scroll through my notes manually, I'm able to find it.
  33. 1 point
I've had the same experience. The search feature is an inconsistent mess. You can do a normal search and it will pull up notes containing that term, but then doing a command + F search inside the note to find the specific location of that term will yield nothing.
  34. 1 point
It's already implemented on the Mac platform. We have the option of viewing pdfs inline or as attachments. I upvoted to have this feature added to the other platforms

I'm having frequent problems with search. For example, I was trying to find "Anthem" - which exists in multiple notes. If I search for "Anthem" though, Evernote only finds one note - and not the note I was looking for. I fortunately remembered that the note I was looking for also contained "1955" so searched for "1955" and found the 2nd note, as well as some other notes containing 1955. The other note also clearly contains "Anthem" in it in plain text. So why didn't it show up in the first search? This happens to me all the time and it seems to be getting harder and harder to find relevant notes. I would expect Evernote's search to be clever, but instead it seems to be getting worse and worse all the time. This is basic functionality in a "free form database" like this. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you. doug
  36. 1 point
Doug, my UserName is "JMichael". "Explorer" is my forum title, which has no meaning or significance at all. I have to agree with you that Searching in Evernote is NOT obvious. Many things in Evernote are NOT obvious and are NOT intuitive. To make matters worse, searching in different EN clients works differently. The UI designers at Evernote seem to value being cool over being intuitive and following long established UI standards. They don't seem to understand one of the primary principles in app design: form follows function. This is one of my long-standing issues with Evernote.
  37. 1 point
Explorer, Consistent perhaps, but definitely not obvious. For example, I usually use the Control+Command+E shortcut to jump into search. To have to then "first click on something else" to do a complete search just adds more to do. And you have to admit if you clear the notebook selection from the search field you would expect it to be a global search. doug
  38. 1 point
Doug, it's actually very simple: IF you want to search within a NB, first click on the NB in the left panel.IF you want to search across ALL NB, then first click on the button "All Notes" at the top of the Note list.I find this works very consistently.
  39. 1 point
Gaiagraphics, that's exactly what I thought too. It makes logical sense. If the notebook name is there you assume it means search within that notebook. Without it you assume it means search everywhere. But it just isn't so. I hope they fix that! doug
  40. 1 point
Well, guess what. I found a working solution (though I still think it's sort of a dumb thing to have to do). In the search field no "notebook" tag was set, so I just assumed it was searching all the notes. But it wasn't. What you have to do is first click "Notes" in the left-most panel. Then your search is of all the notes. Otherwise it isn't. Not only that, you have to do that prior to every single search or the results are not reliable. If no notebook is set to search within, and the search field is blank, it seems it should automatically search all notes. But it doesn't. I can replicate this any number of times. So until Evernote fixes this behavior I'll just have to remember that each full search is a two-step process: (1) click notes and (2) then search. doug

Today we're announcing 6.13 GA. Get it here or check for updates in your app. The feature set and fixes are the same as our Beta 5 which was the release candidate we published last week. Thanks, Chantal and the rest of the Mac team -------------- 6.13 and app updates going forwards will be supported on OS X El Capitan (10.11) and above Improved Sharing: consolidated share options under the "Share" button in Evernote. Share a note, choose to create a public link or modify share permissions all from one place. Navigation and Commanding UI: we've made some adjustments to provide more space for your content using a narrower toolbar, and making some tweaks to the sidebar to improve legibility. We've also improved the Move Note dialog to make it even faster to move a note across accounts by listing all notebooks from both your business and personal accounts directly in the dialog. Fixed We fixed many issues in this release, here are some of the notable issues addressed. Fixed an issue where notebooks are sometimes duplicated on upgrade Fixed several crashes including intermittent issues around moving notes, app launch, and on PDF annotation Fixed an issue where the Evernote app window sometimes appears black when in full screen mode -------------- Screenshots Simplified user interface with a more minimal toolbar Improved sharing dialog
