  1. I wasn't really replying to you, GrumpyMonkey - I understand your concerns. Yours are founded with a knowledge and understanding of what's actually happening in this transition. But still many are commenting as if the "Free services in exchange for your anonymized data" Google bought or acquired Evernote. This is a fundamental misunderstanding of the situation, and decisions should not be made based on this. Google is a giant entity that has many parts that don't have anything to do with each other. Because one part of Google randomly learns what newsletters you've subscribed to in Gmail and u

  2. Google didn't buy Evernote, guys. Goodness gracious. Evernote is simply buying server space from them. Instead of being their own landlord, Evernote is now paying Google rent. Everything in Evernote's house is still theirs - Google has no rights to it nor can they randomly access it. They are literally just buying internet space from them. This isn't an acquisition. This isn't Google's free services platform partnering with Evernote. Evernote is PAYING GOOGLE to house their information. Google is getting PAID. Google's free product business model does. not. apply. Your anonymized informat

  3. Do you have Tools / Options / Navigation / "Automatically Select Child Tags" checked? If so, I replicated that behavior. It may be by design: when you do that, then that means that the parent tag denotes a multi-term search of that tag plus all of its subtags (any: tag:parenttag tag:subtag1 tag:subtag2...), not just a single tag. That suggests saved search to me. Of course, it could still be a bug... If you don't have that option checked, then I can't replicate the behavior.

  5. You or Google may say that, but there's a huge trust issue when Google is involved. I won't be surprised if a few years from know we will learn that Google "by mistake" made some "errors" and used it for some purposes anyway. We're not talking about just some data. We're talking about, at least for me, quite sensitive data. I don't trust Google. Never will. Therefore I will migrate to something else. Very bad news.

  6. I'm now involved in a few not for profit or indeed no money charities. They are all struggling with collaboration specially as many of the staff help out from home and only get together every few months. I'm trying to suggest Evernote to them however the business edition is way outside of their budgets and using individual premium accounts means each person hold the data rather than centrally as a group. I think Evernote has a great opportunity here to step in and offer Evernote for a big discount for registered charities, it'll cost Evernote almost nothing to implement and they can offse

  7. Thought I'd open a scanned PDF and use Skitch to highlight passages. But it's virtually impossible to draw a straight line of highlighting across a line of text. Sadly, for anything other than free-hand drawing, the highlighting feature in its present incarnation is completely unusable. Highlighting should (optionally) work the way it works to draw an arrow: You click at point A, then drag across to point B, and once you're satisfied that the line is straight, you hit enter to confirm and have the line drawn. Better yet, it'd be great to click a checkbox that constrains all lines horizontall

  9. In the real world, "where does it live" is a mandatory piece of metadata. Without that, a document (or whatever) literally can't exist. When the cavemen started storing away their rocks, they used a flat structure - a pile in the back of the cave. But very quickly, Grog couldn't find that really cool flat, pointy rock that he liked to use to hunt with. So he started separating the rocks into piles by shape. And thus filing folders were born. Fast forward a few thousand years, and you end up with filing cabinets, drawers, and folders - hierarchical storage. Then Grog's great-to-t

  10. You're using the wrong product if you want to collaborate on editing a document. You've posted in the IOS forum so you might want to look at the latest Apple iWork products. They just introduced collaboration. I understand Google Docs also supports collaboration, and there's a new intergration with Evernote The only other idea I have is to avoid a setup where you're working on the same note. For example, separate status reports instead of a combined report.

  12. Thanks for the advice. seems to me that it is a great way for evernote to expand, because I've only used the app for a week now, and if it digitally time stamped each entry into the note itself, and maybe have an option you so you can't alter the previous notes. This is the way of the future if they could provide this. because I find myself it is way faster to pull out evernote during the day to record certain items, speed and connivence put this app at the top of the list, I am using Mac products to run Evernote I have also consulted local legal advice about this, and i am awaiting

  14. good points. yeah. although i jokingly referred to myself as the commander adama of the discussion (no networked computers on my battleship!), that's only partly said in jest. i'm fine with letting out some of my data for google and others to play with, but i actually don't want a lot of my stuff integrated, i'm not interested in taking advantage of apportunities, sharing it with others on work chat (i have colleagues, but no "team" to annoy like this), or running my data along the bleeding edge of tech gimmicks to see what happens (the voice stuff google is selling doesn't interest me ye

  18. Hi all my issue with evernote is its left to right languages support for languages like Persian or Arabic. There are way to many issues, i would just point out a few: i have a persian font named "b nazanin". when i format my entire note with it, some bits are left unformatted and remain in the original font format. i have attached a picture which shows the symptom. using bullets and right alignment, the bullets remain on the left hand side same as above only with numbering ultimately if there was a right to left writing option in addition to right alignment (like Microsoft word or oth

  21. Hi. The 'Share' clipper on Android doesn't work the same way as a desktop clipper. The two current choices are: full page (which saves the URL in the note header); or bookmark - which saves a text snippet (which Evernote chooses) and the URL. The other threads you mention are old ones which aren't really comparable queries. If you want to save paragraphs or blocks of text, have you tried using the copy/ paste option on your device and simply opening a new note / pasting your selected text and (if Evernote doesn;t already capture it) adding the URL the same way?

  23. @BSR, Thank you for the response, I was just going to comment that I'm having this problem, too. Unfortunately, when I open the Preferences and look at the General panel, the "Open Evernote when I long in to my computer" option is not checked. I also tried unchecking the "Show Evernote Helper in the menu bar" option, but when I turned on my Mac this morning, Evernote started right up again. I have the Evernote icon in my dock and the "Open at Login" option is not selected there either.

  24. Brian, I appreciate the response. It was this quoted post earlier in the forum that caused me to comment on your post. I think some of us were holding out hope that Evernote would see the light and offer notebook level, zero knowledge encryption. The note from your head of security affectively ends that, at least in the forseeable future. So I do see it as inconsistent that EN is concerned enough about someone losing or misplacing SD media with unencrypted data that they won't allow data storage on removable media, yet on the other hand are not interested in providing the encryption necess

  25. Uh, GMail is actually a good email client, at least it's good enough for me. It just works, day in, day out. It's relatively simple, but you can do some useful things (like auto labelling) with it, too. But the point here is that the application makers at Google are not the same folks who make the data services, plus it's an entirely different business model. Judging the one based on the other is not particularly meaningful. I think you're mistaken about the Google data services being spyware, but it's your data, so it's your decision. Good luck.

  27. For those of you who want to stop Evernote from launching automatically, navigate to System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login Items, then select and remove Evernote from the list of login items.

  28. I finally figured out how to stop this with version 6.9 today as none of the suggestions above worked for me, either. Do the following: Settings > Users & Groups > Login Items > Click the lock at bottom left & input your system password > In your "Login Items" list highlight the Evernote items and click the "-" (minus) sign underneath the list. That finally stopped Evernote from auto launching even though neither of the Evernote items in my list were checked. Hope it works for everyone else.

  29. Hi Gazumped, thanks for your answer. You're right, I understand. Now should Evernote improve only the ways to edit PDF documents, such as the Apps Good Notes or Note Shelf. Then it would really be the best note-taking app.

  31. Thank you gazumped! I wasn't aware of that and now I am able to tag my posts and select a notebook, but after I save it, it does not seem to be showing up in my Notebook files. Not sure where my clippings are being sent! My total number of notes doesn't change after I clip and save, so there seems to be some disconnect. Any insight on this? Perhaps it would help if you might give a quick run down of the steps you take to clip and save in case I am missing something? I used to use Evernote in Explorer and it was a piece of cake. I've had trouble ever since switching to Chrome. I appreciate your

  34. Yup - just finally changed it in my Note 5. Here is how to make it default to pen entry: Click in the note so the keyboard pops up. Hit the "T" button. That will change it the pen entry mode. Long press the keyboard button so the options with the gear icon shows up. Hit the gear icon Scroll to the bottom of the Samsung Keyboard settings and turn Pen detection on and back out. Viola! When you go to type in a note, the default will be to have a handwriting line if you have the S-pen out of its hidey hole. I know that isn't exactly the same but I

  36. You desperately need to improve the Apple Pencil usage on the iPad Pro. It's ridiculous that it basically exits out of the app and then pastes your handwriting in. Plus inability to insert images, files, etc right into the note and then write on it is terrible. Please look at how OneNote works for note taking. Unfortunately I'm left with just using Evernote as a repository and OneNote as my vehicle for taking notes and marking up documents during meetings. I'll eventually have to migrate to OneNote completely if this isn't improved.

  37. Loving the new Evernote update! Way to embrace iOS 10 whole-heartedly. I have one suggestion regarding the widget. I think it is more important to have access to quick actions on the fly than to see a suggested note. I know you can see these actions when clicking "show more" but this puts three notes ahead of what I actually want access to and pushes the action buttons beneath the fold (on my set up). Besides that, amazing work. Evernote just keeps getting better!

  42. well yes understood, but sorry to harp on to this.. I did contact Evernote Support with a Ticket on this Issue and it was a most horrid time wasting experience, even getting them to respond coherently, never mind actually discussing this database sync error. So yeah I am aware I'm moaning to peer users, who are trying to help, and for the moment I am aware that this is mostly for my own satisfaction. I do hope nobody is as offended by this, as I am that Evernote are not dealing and sorting this issue. I am a long time premium user and, sadly for me, leaving evernote would be an ar

  46. Just wanted to say that this is still a problem, and a VERY basic feature. I upgraded to Evernote Premium today and beside space, annotating documents directly in Evernote was a big factor for upgrading. Really disappointing that they still haven't addressed this issue - it really looks awful! Can we somehow make them aware of this basic feature? The difference between annotating in Evernote and Preview on Mac is pretty clear:

  47. @cmlccie I agree with most of your points. Tables are important and should be better implemented. They look as an old fashion HTML table, while it should be something closer to a spreadsheet or something like that. Styles would also be useful, but we must not forget that the purpose of this app is not to be a word processor replacement.

  49. The last time this thread was addressed was a year ago, so not sure anyone will see this, but... On a Mac, when you hold Shift, it creates a fixed length line. Which then has to be edited to the correct length. The length of the line is the same regardless of whether it goes clean off the page or not. You still (two years later) can not adjust the transparency of a highlighter. This is pretty basic functionality - are you not developing this tool any more? I am going to have to annotate in a different program and then import, which is really annoying when I'm supposed to have an integra
