Today we’re releasing Evernote for Mac 6.5 Beta 1. We’ve been laser focused on quality so 6.5 mostly has a bunch of under the hood stability fixes. Some of these are big changes and could actually cause more instability so please report back if you're seeing weird behavior or increased crashes. Even though we've been mostly working on stability stuff we have a few cool things we’ve added to the Mac client. 2 weeks ago Evernote held it’s first ever hackweek where everyone stopped their day-to-day work to spend a week designing, prototyping and building whatever they had a passion to work on as long as it was related to Evernote or could help Evernote customers. There were 54 separate teams and lots of really cool stuff produced. A couple of these cool things are showing up in this release. Here are some highlights of 6.5 Beta 1. Change We’ve changed the increase and decrease font size key command. It used to be CMD + "+" and CMD + “-“. We are now changing this and aligning it with MS Office and Google Docs so the new key command will be CMD+SHIFT+> and CMD+SHIFT+<. This leaves CMD +”+” and CMD + “-“ for another feature . Beta Features (Hackweek) Zoom - One of our hack week features is the ability to zoom in or out of your note content. Unfortunately it’s not quite finished yet but since so many of you have been asking for this for so long we decided to include it as a beta feature that you can turn on with the understanding that there are still a few bugs. I don’t think the issues are that bad. For example, if you Zoom in and your image reaches the width of the note it will start to shrink when you try to zoom in. Also you can’t really resize an image when zoomed in. To try it out go to Preferences -> Software Update -> Enable zoom. Code Block - Another of our hack week features is code block which lots of our software engineers wanted to have in Evernote. This basically takes any selected text and converts it to a monospaced font and creates a grey background around the line of text. This also has a few bugs. I wouldn’t recommend turning this feature on if you are an Android user because editing the note on Android will undo the code block. This works fine if you’re using the Common Editor beta version of Android but will break using the standard Android app. To try it out go to Preferences -> Software Update -> Enable code block. Bug Fixes We improved the performance of downloading a large number of tags on initial sync. We do not have a fix yet for an issue that cropped up in 6.4 where checkboxes don't print. We're still working on it. As always, thanks for testing the Mac 6.5 Beta 1 release and please report issues you find in this forum thread because I'm tracking it closely. Also let us know about your experience with Zoom and Code Block. You can download the beta here or wait for the upgrade notice to appear in the app which should happen in the next few days.

Dear All, I really would love to see a solution for archiving notes. I've been using for 4 years and now I have some notes that I want to keep in the system, but want to remove from my search. As time goes, my search are getting more difficult to separate valid information and archived information. Like we have Notes, Notebook, Tags, Atlas, Market and Premium button on the Mac version, I dream with an Archive button. Every note I move to this icon will make it not searchable, unless I'm searching inside the Archive View. You could even move a completely Notebook. I have many scenarios where this is valid, some of them here: You finished a graduation course full of notes and you want these notes in a place that you may need but normally it will not be part of your search or have a distract visual in All Notes ViewYou closed a company and want all the notes in a special placeYou may not want to have this Archive notes in your local hard disk, unless you click "Download"You prepare for a vacation and suddenly canceled. You want to have this hide in some place but not displaying all the time. I think it would be a great feature. Thank you, Patrick Santana

I've love to be able to easily use Evernote with a Chromecast, especially in presentation mode on Windows (and Android, ideally). Currently I need to hook up an HDMI cable. Not terrible, but being able to simply send it to the Chromecast would be really useful. I wouldn't be tied to being close to the wall jack, and nobody would be tripping over my cables. As a workaround, I'll use the web client in Chrome, use the Chromecast extension, and just go full-screen. Not perfect, but workable. I'd much rather be able to do it directly from the desktop client if possible.

The "View Options" button (as well as its neighbors "Filter by Tag", and "Share this notebook") jumps all over the screen depending on what View Option is selected. This is distracting and creates a lot of unnecessary mousing around if I am switching between Views. It's even annoying, if I am used to a single view, change the view, and then expect to change back by clicking where I had just clicked to get there... 1) I'd suggest it sit in the Evernote Window Title Bar - where the Sync indicator, and [+ New Note..] is. that way, it would consistently be in the same place, regardless of which View I have chosen. Also, how about: 2) Add shortcut keys for Views (I don't see any in the View Menu)? 3) Add a context menu (Right+Click) for Views? If one exists, I couldn't find it. Mainly I would just like to see that button stay in one place. Thanks

@JMichaelTX, the new encrypted text block will still only encrypt plain text like it does today. Adding fully encrypted notes or notebooks still isn't a business priority, so we don't have any plans to add those features.

I have an iPad pro and Apple Pencil. Is there a way to create a todo checkbox item when using the apple pencil?

    >>Section problem with time entry I may have been mistaken on this - I'm not seeing it now Having sections is a great feature; it makes the todo list much more readable >>Non todo verbiageI may have been mistaken on this - I'm now seeing the verbiage removed This is great feature - it reduced my daily journal to a concise to-do list >>free version only limit to 2 notes Thanks for clarifying this - my testing was only limited to 2 notes Still don't know the price

Thanks for replying. It was worth a more detailed look at your product. It took my daily journal and reduced it to a concise todo list on my iPhone. I was able to use the check boxes and they sync'd back to the original note. First - Where's the money! The download was free, which was good; I got to try it out. It says there are in-app purchases but I couldn't see them. What's the price of this product? -Paper Bullet will identify based on criteria note contains checkmark or tag Paperbullet I changed the default to tag; I have many notes with check boxes that I don't want included. The tag criteria worked well and accessed my Daily Journal where I listed my todos. I could have multiple todo lists Non todo verbiage There was some slight formatting changes. my preference is that the text with no checkbox is not visible. Correction: I'm not seeing this now - the display is a very compacted to-do list. This is a great feature; my Daily Journal was converted exactly as I would like it. - easier to move / swap checkmark row - complete counter - filter only show not complete checkmark only People have been asking for this feature. Good for shopping lists - add section Based on a textl with a : The time 1:30 was converted to sections. I may have been mistaken on this. The point is to be careful on use of : This is a nice feature - it makes the compact todo list much more readable - move complete items to bottom Theis was just being requested in another thread. - two way sync This was great, however I'd want to really stress this. We have enough problems with sync conflicts.

Here's a bit more on how Evernote's current system works - we'll have to see whether they consider it worthwhile investing the time and cost of developing something more sophisticated. I take you point though that it's perfectly reasonable to ask... https://help.evernote.com/hc/en-us/articles/208314518

I am now using Quiver The Programmer's Notebook extensively, for all of my code snippets, and it really works great. Ver 3 brought a lot of new, powerful features, and Ver 3.0.1 looks like it will be released very soon. The developer is very receptive to bug reports and suggestions. Agreed... I've been waiting for this for years... I literally check twice a year for alternatives to evernote that can do what I need and also have this feature.... Sorry to cross post... this came up as an off topic on another thread... But I figured I would post my 2 cents on this thread as well that is dedicated to encryption....

Hi everyone, I’m Evernote’s head of security. @areese801, thanks for pointing out this issue. Here's how we plan to address it: Our current plan is to change the encrypted text feature to only allow you to create a new encrypted text block, and disable your ability to highlight and encrypt existing text. Then any text you type in the encrypted text box will have always been encrypted. This isn't going to stop you from cutting/copying text from outside the encrypted block into it, but that is something you have to do intentionally and it would be out of our control. We did consider a few of the other options that you suggested, but we decided that other solutions would be too difficult to explain for most users other than our power users, or would require us to dig into the content of users’ accounts in ways that would be inconsistent with our Privacy Policy. In the meantime, there are a couple of workarounds, including the one that @gazumped mentioned. You can make a copy of the note and delete the old note. The note history is lost when you make a copy. If you want to create an encrypted text block that will never get snapshotted in plaintext, you can enter a few spaces into the note body, highlight those spaces and choose "Encrypt Selected Text". Thanks again for raising this issue and I'll drop an update into this topic once we release a fix.

I love Evernote, I do. I've been using the personal version daily for years. It's perfect for storing ideas, thoughts, task reminders and check lists – all constant needs in personal life. Storing info, insights, tasks – all even bigger needs in business life. Awesome! I was considering signing us up today... but without something as simple as concurrent collaborative notes? Everything down to a simple work meeting? I can only imagine the headache of having to go back in after the meeting and merge 10 different "conflict" versions. Two people working on a project together checking off tasks? One doesn't know the other is done until it updates. I just paid somebody to do a task his coworker already completed. Building a knowledge database? If one employee has a great sales pitch phrase and wants to go add it to the list, they don't even know somebody else is already viewing and working on that note. Conflict and time wasted rebuilding the database. Day after day after day. Genuinely, this isn't meant as a rant. It's really not. We'd love all the other features Evernote offers, but for now we don't have much choice but to stick with a folder organized google docs / sheets. The paid version of google for business is $5 with 30GB storage, email accounts, live collaborative sheets/docs, calendaring, tasks. It's capable of storing info and ideas as docs and sheets. It can store and link to any file type. You can store files offline. Everything is indexed and searchable. Chat (and video chat). Security, access, and admin controls. People with personal google accounts can switch back and forth between accounts (by the way that's a feature free even in standard accounts). 24/7 support. Sound familiar? Evernote Business is trying to fill similar needs... right? Right now Evernote Business is $12 per user per month. That's 2x more than Google and from what I can tell, what we're getting Evernote's superior organization scheme and searching text within images/PDFs. I'd even consider paying Evernote a fee on top of our Google accounts. But with the massive monetary time loss to click by click rebuilding databases and notes? Right now, without live collaboration Evernote Business would hurt our business, not help it. I could be wrong, but it seems that would be the case for most businesses. Google offers live collaboration for free on all it's accounts, personal and business. It's not some upgrade. That's why it's used by students collaboratively taking notes in a lecture. Companies creating reports and presentations. As a long time personal user of Evernote, I know Evernote could be a MUCH better solution to those notes, info, and presentation needs. Evernote could become the platform students and businesses turn to for info. But for now, I guess I'll just keep using it for limited personal use.

It has not been discretely disabled. Background sync, in general (not related to evernote, specifically) does appear to be somewhat flakey. Its particularly flakey on older devices, I found after upgrading to my iPhone 6 that it was working a fair bit more regularly. One thing to remember is that this background updating isn't that frequent. Depending on the application, it could be as infrequent as once per hour. I've sometimes found it hard to detect whether it works or not with Evernote because often times its only a few notes that have been added since I last launched, and usually they are not large, so it can be difficult for me to discern whether they were downloaded at launch, or downloaded prior to launch... Anyway, I don't trust it to flawlessly update my offline notebooks, I always manually verify their contents before I enter into a not-connected area.

With IE9, turning off the Favorites toolbar allows the Evernote Web Clipper icon to appear in the Command toolbar for some reason. Worked for me anyway. totochto
