This is a large reason why I avoid using the web client. My structure and daily workflow revolves around my tag hierarchy. Bringing the tag hierarchy into the new web client would be where I would cast my vote for priorities if anyone at Evernote is reading this.

The previous doesn't seem to be any way justified -- or even connected to -- by the statement that followed it: I'll grant that an an inducement to get an understanding of how to use Evernote and then to pay them, Evernote does get value in terms of future revenues. But that's about it. So how, exactly what value does Evernote get from long-term free users? Servers and companies don't run on fairy dust; it costs money, which free users don't provide. You get them to stop asking you to pay by, um, paying. Duh. And calling them naughty names drops you way down in the credibility column. Be serious: you were in no way going to start paying for the service.. Just to be clear -- I have a second free account to go along with my premium account, and their attempts to get me to upgrade are not any bit irritating at all. Maybe I understand that businesses that don't make money don't survive? The price you pay for not paying is the occasional request that you upgrade. Otherwise, Evernote Basic is free (as in free beer) to use. Use it, or do not. Just don't whine about it.

Feature Request: Add Outlining Capabilities to Evernote Evernote is great, but it's dying for the ability to create Notes that contain Outlines which are easily collapsed and expanded during creation and in use. One way to implement it would be a switchable editing mode, between standard formatting or outline mode. In outline mode, pressing the Enter key creates a new outline item, and pressing the Tab key changes the current item into a sub-item. Clicking on an item's action icon causes its sub-items to collapse out of, or expand into view. That's the way the Ecco Pro PIM did it, and something simple like that would be a good start for Evernote. The name Evernote implies a product that takes notes -and collapsible/expandable outlines are a huge part of note taking.

@DaJoLo Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I raised the issue with our search team yesterday and they jumped right on it. They told me this morning that this should hopefully be fixed already. Can you please validate and let me know if it is working for you? Also, please continue to send us any feedback you have. We very much appreciate it.

Recently Skitch has stopped working for me in that when I take a screenshot it ignores the active window and actually only takes a shot of the desktop underneath. I thought this might just be on my laptop but it's happening on my desktop Mac as well. Is there anything I can do?

Just chiming in again to reiterate that I still regard this feature as a must-have. Accidental keystrokes while referring to old notes are a major concern for me. Evernote's familiarity, helpful support team, and convenient image editing features have been a barrier to switching, but OneNote is looking more tempting every day that I can't protect my notes by making them read-only.

Dear Devs in Evernote. Evernote is the best note taking app out there hands down. But for anybody working in development one big issue is missing markdown support. Nowadays Markdown is: a standard, a convenient, fast and reliable method to write tech docs That's why any developer I know, including myself, is using some additional Markdown editor trying desperately to fit it somehow into Evernote workflow. There is plethora of such tools: Atom iA Writer Bear Writer Byword Day One Markdown Pro Marxico Quiver Ulysses etc. Which means that there are libraries if not the whole ready to plug-in text editors supporting markdown. All the above applications are great for note taking in markdown, writing tech documents, essays or even books. However they don't integrate with Evernote at all (with exception of Atom and Marxico) and they all lack (to a different degree): powerful image support not to mention stellar Evernote OCR advanced Evernote search easiness of sharing notes in Evernote Evernote notebook feature Please put some pressure on the product managers to prioritize this feature. Integrate Markdown editor into Evernote to make great product even better.

Good to clear this up, thanks for that. Though the above would have been helpful back in, what was it, 2016 when the restriction was added. Advice was dispensed in the forums back then re just sign off and on to whatever devices were used by a basic account. It was not clear then that the intent was two quasi specific devices. No horse in the race as a premium subscriber since forever plus this change makes all the sense in the world to me, just seems a bit disingenuous from a communications basis. Not you @Shane D., EN.

When viewing notes on the phone, frequently I switch to other apps to do things like reply message, searching some content of the notes on the internet and so on. However, unlike the built-in Notes app on IOS, Evernote frequently reloads itself and returns to the top of the page and unsaves the action performed before switching to other apps. It very frustrating when the note is very long with lots of tables and we are editing something. It would be so much easier if the app can keep its status in memory much longer so that we can view the same things again after switching back. Since IOS Notes itself can do it and there is no problem on my Mac, I assume there could be a way of fixing this for IOS? I am using a iPhone 8 for reference. Thank you very much.

Bonjour, et bienvenue sur les forums. Hélas, quel problème! But if I want to say anything useful I must do it in English. And honestly, I'm not sure what that might be. At some point you have to be able to log in to Evernote. The support at https://help.evernote.com/hc/requests/new is mainly for Premium subscribers, but for such a drastic situation as this, there may be options for Basic subscribers as well. You can also contact Evernote support on Twitter: https://twitter.com/evernotehelps. Let me tap Evernote employees @Shane D. and @May L on the shoulder to see whether one of them might be able to come to your rescue.

Hi, and welcome to the forums. I can't actually speak from experience, since I've only used Windows and Android versions of Evernote (and the Web client). But if you're working fine in both Android and Windows, you shouldn't have any difficulties using iOS as well, beyond the likelihood that the interface and editor will function a bit differently. I'm sure others here can tell you from experience that it works. Basically, the devices don't have to "get along" with each other at all. Each of them independently syncs your notes to the Evernote servers, where the master copies exist. The app on each device knows how to do that sync and interpret and display the data within its own operating environment. You can do some formatting on some devices that you can't do on others; but in my experience, the formatting displays more or less correctly even on devices where it can't be created. E.g., in the Windows program, as you know, you can change the typeface, size, and color of text, and these show up on Android, even though you can't make those changes there. I'd expect similar phenomena adding an iPad to the mix.

+1 Just moved from Chrome to Firefox and found this problem, which has been around for more than a YEAR! Totally agree that the company has lost its energy in bringing out meaningful updates, while competitors like Notion are showing vibrant improvements. I keep Evernote only has my archive/library now, but it stills manages to fail at clipping PDF files...

You can also just save the search, then right-click on it and select "Remember View Settings". You can then make it into a shortcut (or not), and the sort order will be preserved.

The first 2 questions sound interesting, but I have no clue. About question 3: I personally use GoodNotes 5 to make annotations by Apple pencil into pdfs. It is easy to import a pdf into GN5, and I like the handwriting tools that come with it. For more formal annotations or real edits I use PDF Expert from readdle on my iPad to edit pdf documents. This is available for the Mac as well, but it is much more expensive for the Mac than for iOS. So if I want to edit a pdf, I export it from the Mac to my iPad, do the job there and send it back to the Mac. Because of the handover between Mac and iPad this works nearly seamlessly. Now you know why I have no clue regarding the first 2 questions ...

Hi, and welcome to the forums. I just tested, and I see the same behavior. I have an app called Aqua Mail set as my default email app. I even tried clearing it as the default and setting it again (using an email address in another app), but Evernote still failed to recognize it. So it's not specific to Outlook. It feels like a bug. Since you're a Premium subscriber, I'd highly recommend opening a support ticket about it: https://help.evernote.com/hc/requests/new.

@gazumped, @DTLow and @bradh thank you for your responses. That is sad to hear, I am literally heart broken. I am giving DEVONthink a shot, although I admit it will be not trivial for me to switch from Evernote to anything else, and I will try not to go on that route if possible but being able to write equations in notes for me is crucial. Anyway, thank you guys again for your comments.

I agree (although for a simple list I'd be more likely to use some format other than a table; but maybe these lists are not so simple). I'd recommend to anyone reading this thread (including those like @lisec who have contributed to it) to go to the active feature-request thread on creating and editing tables in Android, and click the up arrow at the top to vote for it:

I’ve bagged on Evernote and complained about it many times as this is getting worse. But to be fair, a big part of it is iOS RAM management. There’s tons of complaints about that being worse in all apps, especially IOS 13 onward. Notion is great for some things. Their iOS app is terrible and it needs off-line data and ability to scale well with lots of notes. Now, it gets super slow with many notes. Evernote just built out their new beta editor so they can add new features. I give it eight months before I fully choose between the two.

The Basic accounts are still subject to the account limitations They can view oversized notes, but are not able to edit them Uploads are charged to the notebook owner's account. Make sure the Premium accounts create the notebook; they have a high upload allowance

Yes, so long as you share as "Can edit" or "Can edit and invite". Subscription level doesn't matter in this case; basic users can share for editing too.

On a phone press on the three dots and press Open In. Then select Evernote. If Evernote isn't visible add it using the more option. This will add the photo, or any file for that matter, as a note.

Here is the PE phrase. The steps replicate what you would do manually - double click to highlight the word under the cursor, copy, find in note, paste, select next, close find in note. {#LEFTMOUSEBUTTON -count 2}{#CTRL -chars c}{#CTRL -chars f}{#CTRL -chars v}{#mouseposition -x 2755 -y 775}{#LEFTMOUSEBUTTON}{#mouseposition -x 2510 -y 775}{#LEFTMOUSEBUTTON} The mouse positions at the end are specific to where you have the EN on your setup so the EN window needs to be in the same position for this to work. Since I always have EN open full screen on the right monitor of a two monitor set up, not an issue for me. For the demo attached I shrank the EN window and simply modified the locations. I use a tool called MousePos.exe to determine location. I use _ as a prefix so that the word is unique. Sounds and looks more complicated than it actually is. You could actually copy/paste the above into a new PE phrase and modify the positions and be good to go. Demo. I copied a bit of this page and added the jump link _Answer to it. Then executed the PE macro triggered by Shift+Alt+RightMouse. Hope it helps.

I create lists of things I need to do. I prioritize my time by reordering the list and removing items when they're done. I want to be able to reorder the list easily using buttons, hotkeys, or drag and drop. This seems like such an easy feature to add to both the web and Windows versions. Reordering lists as priority changes are crucial to my system. Having to copy out of EN into a text editor (notepad++ for me) just so I can CTRL+SHIFT a row up and down and then having to copy it back so that I can view the changes on my other devices leaves me at risk of losing my changes. I copy out, reorder and forget to copy back. For me, checkboxes don't work. If I'm done with a ToDo, I want it out of my view. CTRL+SHIFT+D should delete the current row in the list. If I'm scanning down through my list and I see items that need to be done before the one at the top of the list, I want to be able to move them to the top. Clicking on that line or highlighting any part of any line and pressing CTRL+SHIFT+UP should move the selected rows up one row, CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+UP should move it up all the way. Alternatively, you could drag and drop them.

The lack of ability to disable this annoying feature, which I commented about on 27-Aug-2018, has caused me to start looking for an alternative to Evernote. From what I can tell, the product works well on iOS and MacOS. Based on personal experience, it works just OK on Windows, though the editor has some quirks that take getting used to. But on Android, where I basically run my entire life, Evernote is VERY DISAPPOINTING! As others have commented, it's been over a year and we're still dealing with this issue. I understand and support the team not catering to free-level users. But as a paying user (Plus level subscription), I would think this issue would get more attention than it has. Dear Santa, all I want for Christmas...

I'm also on Evernot v. 8.12.2 on Android, and the issue persists. Just like @Dave-in-Decatur, I also updated my note on Windows and ended up with a note conflict that won't go away. Adding more details: My "locked" note on Android was called "Sand Spirograph" I changed the same note on my Windows machine ( (308716) Public (CE Build ce-62.5.9981)) I synced on both devices (first on Windows, then on Android) This caused a "note conflict" on Android I deleted the "note conflict" on Android (the one with the lock and red mark) Now I see the note correctly on my Android device (without the lock and without the red mark) YET, whenever I sync on Android, I get a notification saying "Note upload failed / Note conflict Sand Spirograph"! I opened the "Trash" folder on Android and saw the two notes there, "Sand Spirograph" and "Note conflict Sand Spirograph" (both with the lock and with the red mark) I tried to delete them, but got an "Error / Some notes were already restored on another device. Nothing was deleted."

I love Evernote, but it's preventing me from putting in sensitive content. For example, I can't keep a personal journal notebook, because other people (i.e. girlfriend, family members, etc.) could one day be looking at those notes, especially since they know that I use Evernote often for many purposes. Evernote already has the ability to encrypt single notes. This is useful for things like storing passwords or other temporary sensitive content. But it's not practical to encrypt many notes one by one. I wish I could password-protect a whole notebook. This way, I can do a lot more with Evernote. If I can encrypt single notes, then why can't Evernote just allow me to encrypt entire notebooks? If reason behind this is because Evernote thinks one could lose a lot of data if a notebook password is forgotten, then perhaps Evernote can help recover the passwords through email. In the meantime, I'm stuck with using other apps (i.e. Pages, Day One, etc) to password-protect my content. Any insight is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi. We're a (mainly) user-supported Forum, so -mostly- not the Evernote team. Staffers do read these posts, but there are thousands of posts and AFAIK only a dozen or so likely readers, so it's unknown when or if any Evernote team will receive your comment. If you'd like some direct feedback, the best way is to connect here - https://help.evernote.com/hc/requests/new In any event it's unlikely the company will feel the need to justify its business decisions years after the fact, but given that mapping works differently on the various different operating systems supported by Evernote, I'd say that they decided that maintaining Atlas was far more expensive and labour intensive than was justified by its usage.

Hello, In evernote web there is a non intuitive behavior. In the clients, I can click on the notebook name and I can change the notebook of the note. In Firefox for windows 10, when I click the notebook it simply refreshes the page - this should not happen. For moving to a new notebook I need to go to the 3 dot menu, and select move note - an extra click. But also, the list that appears are all my notebooks without their stack, meaning a big confusion when i have 200 notebooks (I dont use tags). Also, the text is very hard to read in the note list because it is grey and the font is not very easy on the eyes. Check the last updated text on the screenshot.

Hallo, 1st read the link above that explains in general what the permission is used for, and why it is necessary. Examples from my experience are: - If you open a pdf in an EN note, you can open is in Mac Preview directly, use the editing tools of this app, and it will perfectly reflect on the note inside of EN, even while you are still drawing. No need to first export and then file it back. - Open an application related to an attachment in a note, like Office or a photo editor, from inside of EN. Because MacApps run pretty sandboxed, they need permission to influence each other over the apps boundaries. If you want something official, you can issue a support ticket.

Hi , I think it is would be cool and useful if the Table in evernote could do some basic Calculation like excel , no need so complex like what excel do , but some calculation between cell. This can Help a lot when someone want to sum the value of ingredient for example or many things that need some basic calculation . Well , that is what tables usually used for , isn't it . It would be much help rather than manually calculate the value one by one in the table . Hope you would reconsider this Idea , Thank you .

It's 2019 and from my searches it appears this feature has been requested since 2014😥 Still can't add or modify a hyperlink in the android app. How hard is this? It should be a simple feature in any electronic tool. I like to have notes reference each other and am doing more and more things on portable tools like phones and tablets. Please add this feature. Without features like this Evernote is falling further and further behind giving more motivation to look at other tools.

Hi All, You may have noticed that all threads requesting the ability to lock notes and make them read only have been merged into this thread, regardless of platform specificity. This was done in order to better enable us to quantify and qualify user requests, and amplify their voice. While this does not mean this is a feature that will be coming, we certainly want to relay user feedback/sentiment to our various teams. Moving forward, please put all commentary and votes for the ability to lock notes and make them read only support here!

Evernote does have Notebooks; a collection of notes >>Notebooks can have sections and then the sub category under sections is pages Currently, the structure in Evernote is Stacks > Notebooks > Notes also viewed as Tags > Notes with an unlimed hierarchy for tags Personally I like the minimal structure - I use tags, and only a few notebooks Perhaps sectioning would be useful within a note >>I would also like to see different tips (pen, pencil, marker, highlighter, fountain pen), The Evernote editor has a basic feature set. I switch to dedicated apps when I need extended features. My favourite is Notability on my iPad

Thanks for the tip. It is a step forward BUT it only redo the last command. If I make a text bold and red and I hit F4 the other text is only red not bold. So I hope you will add a real format painter to the V6 Beta ;-) I don't understand why this was not already added in earlier versions. Every note taking app needs such a function.

I love the "create table of contents note" option - I think it is the best way to understand the content of a notebook and navigate that notebook efficiently. I would like to be able to pin a note to the top of the notebook, no matter how the notebook is organized. I would mostly use this to pin "table of contents" notes, but I would use it on other occasions as well. And yes, reminders would technically do it but I think that is a little ugly. For me, that would mean having 36 perpetual reminders, one for each notebook. Way too much clutter for me. I think the "shortcuts" feature could address this as well, but again, there would be 36 shortcuts that I would have to visually sort through. It would be much easier to see just the note I want as I navigate to the appropriate notebook. This seems to be a hot topic, here are other posts requesting this feature, starting with this post: http://discussion.evernote.com/topic/50972-feature-request-pin-notes-to-the-top-of-the-notebook-browser/ http://discussion.evernote.com/topic/41293-feature-request-pin-notes/ http://discussion.evernote.com/topic/49215-feature-request-pin-note-to-top/ http://discussion.evernote.com/topic/34064-request-pin-notes-and-notebooks-to-start/ http://discussion.evernote.com/topic/23092-request-pin-one-note-on-the-top-always/ http://discussion.evernote.com/topic/42968-pin-note-to-top/ http://discussion.evernote.com/topic/33642-sticky-notes-the-ability-to-pin-notes-to-the-top-of-a-list/ http://discussion.evernote.com/topic/40833-is-it-possible-to-pin-a-note-to-the-top/ http://discussion.evernote.com/topic/18324-feature-request-pin-notes-favorites/ http://discussion.evernote.com/topic/30585-feature-request-for-android-client-pin-note-to-notification-bar/ http://discussion.evernote.com/topic/24278-feature-request-pinned-notes/ http://discussion.evernote.com/topic/24796-map-view-of-notes/
