  3. It's unbelievable how such a good product can turn into such a bad thing that it induces a customer from years of using the product and the platform to start a process of mass migration of their data to the competition. How can a company do not make a market research, a survey among its loyal customers about what they expect or not from a new version. To me, if Evernote continues like this, it really died. And there it is to look for alternatives to other products, which maybe don't have all the features of Evernote but at least they don't charge us for what they can't offer, different f

  4. Hi all! Evernote for iOS version 10.1 is now available on the App Store. As always, we welcome your feedback. New: - Sort options in search results - Open password protected PDF files - Offline notebooks now continue downloading in the background Fixed: - Issue with Apple Pencil missing strokes on iOS 14 - Note appears zoomed in when switching between notes - Issue with loading a large number of search results - Note would not always open at the top of the note - Edit button would flicker when adding attachments - Sharing a PDF file would sometimes open the keyboard

  5. I've tried Notion, Nimbus and Joplin. Not impressed with any of them. Notion is a polished product - but it's not really an Evernote replacement (more like apples-to-oranges, not apples-to-apples). I think the only serious alternative is OneNote, which is overall a good product -- but both times I've tried to switch to it (only for the cost savings) I came back to Evernote. I managed to stick it out for a year the last time, but I was never really happy with it.

  6. Hi. Evernote v10.2 (released/ updated from today) has your new note button back I believe...

  7. But... the latest version has badly broken tags: Notes that have a tag, where that tag also has sub-tags, are not visible when browsing tags. This is equivalent to a file system where you can have either files or directories in a directory, but not both I had to create a bunch of new subtags, and then tediously - not by drag and drop - move the notes to the subtags (by adding the subtag to the each note, then removing the former tag). Until I discovered this anomaly, I was mystified about why sometimes I would see a note, and other times it would not be visible where I

  8. Yes, this is the same in the current Web version where it was implemented quite some time ago. In previous versions you could use a right click to edit the link. The current way is awful. A link should always need one click only to follow. I don't know any other application or Web-page where a double click is necessary.

  9. Some types of notebooks are best sorted alphabetically. Some by updated date. The sort setting should be saved per notebook instead of one global setting. I have to keep changing it every time I go to a different notebook.

  10. Honestly, I would call the iPad version broken at this point in time, having tried working with it normally over the last two days. The performance is so bad it’s unusable, which means Evernote as a platform is difficult since I use iPad so often. We’re talking 2 to 5 second delays simply to show a note when you click on it. It can take 8 to 10 seconds if it’s a note I haven’t opened recently. Another few seconds if you want to edit the note. Opening Evernote and skimming through 3 or 4 notes to find the one I’m looking for and editing it should take a few moments. It’s taking more like 20 to

  12. On iOS client 10.0.3 (1104765) (just like in previous 10.x as well) it is very slow to start the client on iPad Pro. It takes some 10 seconds before I'm able to do anything useful. During that time some of the touch gestures tries to go through but not correctly. Basically the current 10.x series has ruined the user experience due to the enormous delays in various places while trying to use the app. Feel free to like this if you have the same comments, or post constructive hints how to get rid of the problem. Thanks! Markku

  13. Yes - but you have a choice where you store the Evernote Legacy database. It can be on any drive available to you. V10 seems to locate its database on the installation drive (or C:), and without preferences you can't move it. So, if you're running both versions you can spread the usage across 2 drives, by moving the legacy system database. This is what I've done.

  14. Your requests are reasonable, only nobody can tell when these issues will be solved. I fI were you, I would go back to the legacy client and observe the releases to come. If you want some functions that come with v10, you can even install and run both, one for the current workflow, the other for functions yet not implemented. The downside is you double the local data base, so you need the space on your main drive to do it.

  15. iPhone 10x; iPad Pro; IOS 14.01; EN: 10.0.2. Edit note. Close note. Open note: Edits GONE!! This happens A LOT! So much that I can no longer trust making edits on my IOS devices. I use this app for everything in my life, yet, now, it is worthless. How long should one wait before jumping ship? Perhaps if EN would communicate, I could consider being more tolerable. It's like they want us to go away.

  16. Same exact problem. This is some old-school core-function QA fail bullshit that used to happen 7 years ago. How was this not tested before releasing a prettified update?? THIS is why Evernote is losing customers and market share. If a UI update brings down basic synching functions, I don't even know where to start explaining how not OK and not sustainable EN's priorities are. This instability basically makes ios Evernote unusable until a fix is released. Why would i create any notes on my phone knowing they can disappear because of a randomly occurring synch fail over which I have no con

  17. I frequently email my notes. Not share the link to my notes, but email my complete note. That feature had already been eliminated from the web version of Evernote, and it has now disappeared from the new iOS version. Is that a bug? Emailing notes is an important part of my work process, and if Evernote is going to eliminate that feature and rely exclusively on sharing notes, then I’ll have to reconsider whether I want to remain a paying customer, after many years of doing so (since May 2010, according to my profile). Of course, this is on top of other issues with the new version of Everno

  18. @Mike P the little delays on loading content are a little annoying -- but for my core workflows (creating notes / reading notes), I don't notice a huge different, and the speed on search feels much faster to me (especially in surfacing results from older notes). At least I haven't noticed a big slowdown. But I'm just N=1

  19. Whatever - newer information is always welcome. It is a very nice service, and I would be sad not to have it around. But run by a single person, everything can happen every day. The German Site is run by an university, which provides more stability. About the „traveling“ devices mentioned in many threads: If I would be seriously engaging in hacking, one thing I would do for sure is to cloak my IP, which could give me away. So I probably use a bunch of VPN services, which as well allow to select the country of exit into the general web with a click of the mouse. I will change my device set

  21. While we are on the subject it might be worth documenting two other handy shortcuts for items in the insert menu: --- (3 dashes) adds a dividing line [][][]x2 (3 open then close square brackets) gives you a 2x3 table

  22. I was upgraded to 10.1.7 today. It appears to be a disaster. 1) I have an inbox with 3000 notes I need to file. Dragging a note from the inbox browse pane to a folder takes around 8 seconds. Any other action I do during this time is ignored. Most notes are just small images or plain text. In the old client this action took a fraction of a second. 2) If I multi-select notes and try to drag them to a folder as a group, only the actual note dragged is moved - the other selected notes are ignored. In the old client, dragging a group of notes worked. 3) Everything is horribly sluggish

  23. Couldn't have put it better - no problems for me on Windows 10 app, benefits outweith the negative by a country mile. I flirted with Notion and imported all my trello and en into it thinking one tool was the answer. Couldn't find anything, but hey, it looked really pretty. Now moving my notes back to EN.

  24. I don't understand why some items are hidden away in the insert menu and others are easily accessible from the tool bar. As somebody with a PhD in chemistry it hurts me to say this, but do people really need to subscript text more often than add a table or codeblock? I digress. The good news is that the markdown shortcut of three backticks followed by enter inserts a code block. Also, and you couldn't do this in 6.25, surrounding text with a single back tick allows you to have inline code.

  25. Couldn't agree more ... and Notion search is poor and there's no offline ... I am actually moving BACK from dabbling in notion - too much complexity for me, found myself lost in my own system. It's like an online bullet journal - looks lovely but day to day, just too much. Sometimes limitations and structure aren't a bad thing to prevent you ending up down a rabbit hole which I certainly did with Notion. Notion looks great and has many features, but at the end of the day, I'm keeping notes. The new Evernote editor IMHO has addressed the issues i had with it previously and I found mys

  28. You are missing the point. We have been using workflows based on what Evernote is (or was). v10 breaks many of those workflows. It is not a case where we are trying to use Evernote as not intended.

  29. Exactly 🙂 I'm not going to elaborate too much, but to summarize, I don't expect EN to be a word processor or spreadsheet or painting program or ... Apart from my quick notes, which are completely edited in the EN editor, my more sophisticated content is created in specialized tools, Word, Exel etc The remaining text in the note then glues all included documents together. This (meta)data can also be searched in case the included documents are encrypted. I was also a big fan of the Top List view, but now that I'm forced to use the left pane, I suddenly realize that this

  30. In the old ios version you could open a pdf in evernote and then tap on the magnifying glas to search. the option to search inside a PDF in v10 is now gone? Why???, this was such a useful feature. Please bring this back.

  31. The PDF viewer in version 10 is inferior to the previous one. There is no way to search within the PDF - the old app had a "find" icon that allowed you to do this. The old version allowed you to very quickly "scrub" through all the pages of the PDF by sliding your finger across the page thumbnails at the bottom of the screen. This feature isn't in the new app. Please confirm you are planning on restoring these features? I scan all my docments into Evernote and with the removal of these features efficiently navigating PDF files has become near impossible. Thanks

  35. The new editor is more beautiful, but it is not very functional. On windows, the platform I use is very bad. You took away several features (Synchronize button, several shortcut keys, the table operation was too bad - new lines do not use the formatting of the previous one, etc ...). Not to mention the performance that is much slower than the classic version. And where is the preferences screen? I have never seen an application that cannot be configured. I use the premium version, but I'm already researching other apps to migrate (OneNote, SimpleNote, etc ...). In my opinion you ha

  42. I watched the Ian Small video like many of you did and my takeaway is that power-users don't much matter to them. There is a sense in which they have come out with an entirely new product, and they will build that one up to add a few features here and there, but it will never reach the level of the legacy version. Power-users are too demanding, too fussy, and probably consist of that now famous "2 percent". Of course, power-users are most likely the ones to pay the $90 Cdn/year for their pro version, some of us with multiple pro-versions. I hope I am wrong, but I doubt it. Any company th

  43. Oh please. Boo hoo! This isn't some lone dev in his basement maintaining an open source codebase for free. EN charges a fair amount for their service and we should expect the service to work. If they aren't making enough money to support the platforms properly, then drop some platforms. Or charge more until the equation balances. Don't just ***** out an Electron app after years of stagnation and declare Mission Accomplished. This company gets zero sympathy from me, that ship sailed a long time ago. Everyone was waiting to see what EN's next move was going to be after development completely st

The problem is when the Picture is changed in the Note, the Thumbnail in the "Notes List View" remains the original Picture and not the changed Picture. I have to create a New Note with the changed Picture in order to get the new Thumbnail to show correctly in the "Notes List View". Thank you for your assistance with this issue.

  48. I've participated in the Preview and the Beta programmes for this release. I've noted bugs when I've seen them, responded to the feedback questionnaires and posted observations to the Preview and Beta forums. I'm really surprised to see this release go live when the most recent beta didn't seem nearly ready. It feels as if this release has been rushed rather too rapidly. Perhaps to catch up with the iOS release? It doesn't even feel like a robust Beta, let alone a full release. I appreciate this is a "journey" and improvements can still be made, etc. etc. but shouldn't the app at least
