Hello everyone... Just popping in on this discussion, if only because I don't really want @VisionCasting to carry out his friendly "threat". First of all, I'm sorry that this issue has been outstanding for so long. Second, I want to assure you that many things that may seem on the surface to be easy fixes can in fact be far from it. Sometimes, when we're not very responsive, it's simply because we have no good way to actually accomplish the fix, not because we think it's a bad idea. This is one such area. The way in which Evernote implemented sharing notes some years back was not, shall we say, as elegant an approach as one might wish for. There are numerous long-standing problems that result directly from the constraints of that design. This is one. Problems searching shared notes is another. The list goes on. The way to fix this is not to hack on top of a hack on top of a hack. It is to fundamentally redesign and reimplement the way in which notes are shared deep within the Evernote architecture, and to migrate all existing shared notes to that architecture. Doing that puts us on a path to fix all sorts of different problems, including performance issues with the current design which can get progressively worse as more notes are shared with you. We are going to focus on fixing the root cause of the problem. It's a non-trivial undertaking, as you might expect. But by going down that path, we will be much better placed to work on all the symptoms, as well as be able to move forward to new functionality in this area on a much better foundation. At some point in the coming months, I expect we'll have a Behind the Scenes video that details what we've done in this regard. In the meantime, I apologize for how long it's taken, and assure you that we are working on the root cause for this and related problems. Back to lurking, ian

I find that frequently when I use Web clipper under Windows to save a Web page into Evernote, or share to Evernote from a browser on my Android phone, I get a lot of HTML formatting such as headers that makes the note difficult to use and edit. I've just discovered that the Web beta editor can fix such problems. I used it to open a note that had been clipped from the Web and had header styling near the top. I selected the header text, and the leftmost element of the editor's formatting toolbar showed it as styled "Large header." Clicking on that, I selected the option to "Apply 'Normal text.'" Voilà! The header formatting was removed, and it was normal text--and appeared as such (Tahoma 10 pt) in the Windows program. I tried this on another note that had a big block of material at the top that the beta editor showed in a box and identified as "HTML content" or something. I found that I could move it out of the box and format it as I pleased. This is a big plus for the Web beta editor, IMHO. From now on, it will be my go-to in reformatting clipped Web pages, until the same function is available in the Windows and Android apps. @Scott T., please pass this along to the devs!

Hello everyone! Finally, I took some time to write this down - been thinking about this for over two years; the time that has passed since I began my PhD - or, 600 notes after. Evernote has been my notetaking and file keeping app for six years now. I began to use it more heavily during my master's, but, now with the PhD demands are higher. With this post, I am aiming to share how I use it has a PhD student and share my overall experience with Evernote. So, for other PhD students out there here is how I use my Evernote - we few examples: folders are structured like trees: PhD PhD- meetings PhD- literature review PhD- lab notes (...) In the same fashion are the tags PhD PhD: meetings PhD:meetings: with supervisor PhD: experiments PhD: experiments: experiment 1 (...) Here are the things I miss that would improve my experience: web clips that can be appended to a note for example, when I am doing a literature review would be nice to have all link for the papers in the same note; ordered as I am going through the search better calendar integration with Outlook and/or Gmail having all the tasks and events in the same calendar (both in the smartphone and desktop; not just in the smartphone) Scannable for Android smoother image editing (e.g. cropping) sometimes its a bit frustrating the time spent to crop a picture OneDrive integration (similar to Google Drive) would be great to add files without having to create sharing links all the time more highlight colours (at least two more) because it's just useful to have different colours for different concepts bigger files per note for example, I can't save all data from one experiment in the same note And here are the things I love (and can't live without them): file search OCR in photos saved searches coloured tag great for glancing what is done or not Gmail and Outlook clipper Internal links this is great to index drafts, pictures and experiment results from one note only custom templates import folders to a notebook (don't use this often now) use this to import '.pdf' of papers into Evernote, where I then write notes and share it with my peers publish the notes with a link great to share protocols and guides for new students If I am missing something that is already implemented, sorry - and let me know. happy notetaking, Leonardo

The nested tags I'm running on web v6.4.1 are brilliant. The display of content is brilliant too and you can filter for reminders now. If the iOS clients work like this I'll be a happy customer.

Hi All, Thank you for your continued patience. We believe we have a solution and are working to implement the fix. We are hoping to have the fix in place before the end of next week. I'll follow-up here once I have a definitive date. Let me know if you have any other questions in the meantime.

... among other „first“ things. The number of votes for this thread is probably an indicator of how urgent the user base is wishing this here to happen. In general there are 2 types of EN clients, and then there is the web client. The desktop clients (Win & Mac) run their own local database. That makes high performance on multi-note-operations, local search index etc. But it consumes a significant amount of processing power and storage space. The mobile clients have only a small local database (that can be expanded declaring notebooks as „offline“) and rely on drawing the note of interest (and this is „1“ note at a time) from the server, and sync it back before operating on the next one. Now mobile devices have developed, and probably this basic design of the EN mobile solution is not up to everything the industry will throw at the users (talk about iPad Pros with iPadOS). So we have to wait and see what will happen in this segment. Currently the communicated priorities of EN management are not to develop the clients isolated, for one OS this and the other that. The next „big thing“ will probably a more unified design, making user experience more similar over the clients.

Starting from today, when hovering the mouse pointer to the top or bottom edges of the screen the note's text area automatically scrolls up or down accordingly. How to disable this "feature"? It's quite annoying to get your long note scrolled to the bottom when just want to switch to another window on the taskbar. Haven't found any abilities to disable in the settings.

I certainly don't want to bother users, @PinkElephant, but Evernote officially and clearly points (https://dev.evernote.com/support/) here or to StackOverflow. And in both places you don't get support from Evernote team. I whished someone of the Team was around in one of those two places... or another place clearly indicated for developer support. Already asked to the link you provided, but only useless automatic replies, for now. Certainly not what's needed for who's developing a commercial integration. Anyway, thanks for your reply. I'm not expecting answers from users, of course. Just trying to raise an issue. I'm sure I'm not the only one with this problem.

No, I know what he's saying... On the same computer, the screen size (and scaling) changes because of an external monitor. EN saves the actual pixel size of the window in the registry. So when the size of the pixel changes, EN is going to be a different size. I wanted to save the values in a normalized (100%) pixel size, but that didn't happen. The only way around it is to export the registry (specifically HKCU/Software/Evernote/Evernote/WindowPlacement/ ) and reimport those settings after changing. That means: - Get EN placed as you want. - Fully exit EN - Export the registry key to "laptop.reg" (or something) - Switch to the desktop setup - Run EN and get it placed as you want - Fully exit - Export the registry key to "desktop.reg" Now, before start, you want to import the appropriate reg file and then run EN. Or just resize each time...

Hi, and welcome to the forums. In some testing I did awhile ago, I found that you can get notes from Samsung Notes into Evernote by using the Share function in Samsung notes. If they are handwritten notes, you can share as images or PDFs. Handwritten text in images will be indexed for searching in Evernote (it can take a minute and a re-sync). For typed text notes, not handwritten, you can share them in Samsung Notes as a text file to Evernote, and it will appear in the default Evernote notebook as a text note. I don't use Samsung Notes much, but I did this testing just to see what would happen, so no guarantees. But bottom line, yes, you do have to do them one by one AFAIK. I don't think Samsung Notes has a bulk export function, and I'm sure the Evernote Android app doesn't have a bulk import function.

I thought I'd commented on this before, but perhaps it was on another thread. I'd been having this issue as well intermittently but repeatedly for a very long time, but it stopped quite a while ago, and I don't know what happened to make it stop. That suggests it may be environment-dependent and difficult to reproduce. I feel for those still experiencing it, because it was really annoying when it was happening, just wanted y'all to know it may not be a widespread experience.

Joplin is, unfortunately, extremely limited on iOS. Joplin is not registered in the iOS “Share to...” functionality, so any additions of attachments or photos must be initiated from inside Joplin. I.e. can’t take a screenshot of a web page and send it to Joplin. Instead you have to save it, switch to Joplin, and add it from there. You can’t export any of your notes in any format other than plaintext with markdown. All images and attachments are lost and formatting only works if the recipient is using a markdown reader. This is not an issue if you don’t send your notes to other people from your iOS device. There’s a “read” mode and an “edit” mode. In the edit mode, you’re working with Markdown, meaning that all images become text. I often annotate photos and screenshots, which is a bit hard to do if you don’t see them. I am a heavy user of tables for arranging info and attachments. In Joplin, you can only create tables via typing Markdown code, which only becomes a table once you switch from Edit to Read. I want to write a note, not to code it. Markdown tables are a joke, especially when you want to rearrange them. There’s an attachment upload limit of 10mb on mobile. It’s an interesting project, and probably fine for desktop use. But I am very heavily dependent on iOS and Joplin is just too underwhelming there.

Hello, I love the code block feature that was added. However, I think it has some down falls. Mostly, I think it is lacking in text formatting. An amazing feature would be for Evernote to recognize some popular coding languages and be able to color code variables and other identifiers. At the very least, I wish the code block kept my formatting when I copied and paste from a text editor. I often copy and paste code from SQL management Studio hoping for the color coding to stay, which it does not. If I copy into a normal section, it is fine but, the code block removes the color formatting. (I have tried pasting with match style, does not work). I think this would make Evernote more robust and be able to reach a larger audience. Mainly, extend reach to developers who would like a place to effectively store their code for reuse. Thank you for taking the time to consider this idea!

Thanks for this report. Please try these steps to fix this issue: Select File > Exit to close Evernote Open the task manager to confirm Evernote is not running as a background process (select "Evernote and End task") Open 'regedit' (Windows key + R, then type regedit) Expand the HKEY_CURRENT_USER folder Expand the "Software" folder Expand the Evernote Folder Click on the second "Evernote folder" so that a list of Values displays on the right Right-Click "EnableHardwareAcceleration" Select "Modify" Set Hexidecimal Value to "0" Select File>Exit to exit the Registry Editor Reopen Evernote Please let me know if the issue continues after completing the steps above. Thanks!

What do you mean by all notebooks? EN displays notes by Notebook, Stack, All Notes, or search results. All notebooks means the same as All Notes in this regard relative to what is in the note list.

Yes, if your iPad is on iOS 12 (at least) you can open the camera roll and the EN app side by side, and drag & drop it from the photos to the EN note. On the iPad to create tables you need to use a shortcut, and it must be enabled in the app settings, notes, extended settings, and then the last point. It describes as well the syntax of how to create a table. So precreate the note with the table, with enough space for the number of pictures, then go side by side in split view, and start to drag & drop into the table. Editing tables is not possible on the iPad, you need to use a desktop client for that (or the web client). Or you could upload one picture after another by sharing, which will create one note after another. Then you use the windows client, pick all notes and join them into one. If I remember correctly, the joined note will contain the pictures in order of the note creation. So create the notes with the last picture first, and with the first picture last, to have them in the right sequence later. Maybe give it a try with a few pics whether it works - it is not a process I use. Sorry for that, no easier way as least up to my knowledge. BTW: These guys in London would get a heart attack if the see our largest kitchen knife: 30cm of sharp steel, plus handle, used to work on large veggies like whole pumpkins. You could use it as well to weed out your garden ...

The use case for me is security. I view all work material as company confidential and it all goes into local notebooks. If EN ever enables zero knowledge encrypted notebooks then my need for local notebooks goes away.

A while ago, I noticed that Evernote thought I was signing into my account using two different iPhones. But I only have one iPhone. I thought maybe someone was trying to log into my account so I changed my password... but the problem has persisted. And I'm only allowed to unsync one of my devices twice a month... Is anyone else having an issue where Evernote is recording two different devices logging into the same account?

It’s there. Go to the new Evernote Web (in beta) and you can choose highlighter colors. I believe this will come to the desktop apps at the next update, but the next update of desktop apps seems to be taking longer than usual. But at least the web version proves the feature exists now.

You certainly have a point, especially if a company lives from being embedded into an ecosystem of contributors like you. There are probably more „stray“ informations around EN, like the badly kept page with integrations. Some are long dead, but still listed. Support is the only channel I know where you can push something on. They are working office hours, west coast time, so probably you will get an answer later in the day. You can as well DM Shane D from the forum, he is looking for us here and is sometimes routing things inside of EN to the right desk.

2020... and still no hand-writing integration in Evernote... I fear that means that Evernote is struggling to stay afloat and no longer investing in the product. Anyone else feeling that way? (Evernote Premium user Fromm the early years of the platform. Penultimate purchaser before it even got acquired. Apple iPad + Apple Pen happy user for sketching etc. OneNote provided by work and despite the fact I do not love it the way I loved Evernote, at least hand-writing is built-in... I need hand-writing support in Evernote to keep justifying myself the Premium annual fee...) Come on Evernote! You're making it really hard for your hard-core fans to stick around... deliver on the Penultimate promises and give us *real* *integrated* hand-writing support!

Oh, I feel your pain. My wife has had me print out recipes she finds online (she's not interested in a digital notebook), and "nightmare" is the right word to describe what happens on some of these sites. I have to copy into Word and massage the formatting there. 😠 However, I've discovered that the Evernote Web beta can now do some pretty good tricks on malformed Web clips. I haven't tried that with recipes yet, but you might want to check it out (see my post linked below). Oh wait ... sorry for the thread drift. This thread is about how Evernote is no good for anything.

Um I would LOVE to see this feature. Currently, I have been naming the tags I use to classify notes within a single notebook/stack with this format: [notebook/stack name]-[tag] However, I find this tends to make my tag list look rather messy, and makes scrolling through the list of tags I can choose from on the mobile client much more of a pain than it needs to be. I've tried using more notebooks to separate my content; however, I again ran into the issue of a rather lengthy list of choices to scroll through when choosing where to save a note, particularly on a mobile device. I've also tried using nesting tags, but found these were only useful if I was using the desktop client, which I rarely do. Having the ability to designate tags to be notebook and/or stack specific would be sublime... particularly if the mobile web clipper would then hide those tags unless I had selected a new note's destination to be in that notebook/stack. Also, it would be helpful to have those tags listed at the top of the note list when viewing only notes from that notebook/stack, for filtering purposes.

The handwriting support of EN is .... basic (very basic). Personally I use GoodNotes 5. It can import any 1-page-pdf as a template, on which can be written with the Apple Pencil. This works well with forms, the same feature can be used to annotate pdfs (then not imported as template, but as document). The handwritten text is made searchable automatically, which is working very well, even with my handwriting. To save notes in EN, you have to export them as a pdf into EN. This means that notes should stay in GN5 as long as they are active, and only be transferred when editing is done. The handwriting search will be enclosed in the pdf (there is an option to pick), which means it will stay perfectly searchable in EN as well.

Feature Request: Add Outlining Capabilities to Evernote Evernote is great, but it's dying for the ability to create Notes that contain Outlines which are easily collapsed and expanded during creation and in use. One way to implement it would be a switchable editing mode, between standard formatting or outline mode. In outline mode, pressing the Enter key creates a new outline item, and pressing the Tab key changes the current item into a sub-item. Clicking on an item's action icon causes its sub-items to collapse out of, or expand into view. That's the way the Ecco Pro PIM did it, and something simple like that would be a good start for Evernote. The name Evernote implies a product that takes notes -and collapsible/expandable outlines are a huge part of note taking.

It might be a feature request, and it's kind of saying "Hey Evernote! Your newest feature just made my workflow harder. Help!" The issue is this: the latest Evernote defaults to showing the notes tab every time (see screenshots). But I have an actions/todo notebook I ALWAYS want to show reminders for. This means I must click twice to show reminders (1. go to notebook; 2. go to reminders tab). Sure it's an extra click, and it won't kill me. And I understand why Evernote re-organized it, and honestly it looks better. But is there anyone else struggling with the extra click step introduced by the latest update?

Almost a year later - and I am still here. Going to keep lobbying for this change. Can we do it? YES WE CAN! To summarize the paint point to fix here: You can take a reminder from your list and add a date. Imagine a reminder is your "To Do" item, and you just picked a date to complete the item. Now you decide you want to remove the reminder date. For the "To Do" list analogy, this is equivalent to deciding you changed your mind and haven't decided when to tackle that to-do item. To do this today - you must: Clear the reminder completely (i.e. convert it from a reminder into an ordinary note) Then mark the note as a reminder again. At this point, the note is a reminder without a date. My proposal is to allow the reminder date to be cleared/unset more easily. For example:
