Or it might be good to redeploy at least some of that space to separate the title more clearly from the body of the note.

I just noticed that it's no longer possible to select multiple notes at once in the note list. This is a big shortcoming. Among other things, I'd used this so to be able to tag multiple notes at the same time. Please bring back this functionality. (Honestly, the new note list is just incredibly subpar. I'm realizing that several of my posts here have to do with its many shortcomings.)

@arose10, Thanks for the feedback. Multi selection of notes is coming at a later release. Keep in mind that a Preview build is pre-beta, so there are several features missing. Right now we're focused on performance and overall experience. We're re-introducing features with every release.

Well, I hope the developement is going on. At least, it would be great having a new video from Ian Small about the status.

Recently Evernote have enabled `inline code` if you use backticks like that (example attached). But they don't appear in the iOS / Android / Windows / Mac clients as far as I can tell. Further, these clients seem to remove this formatting from the note. Is this feature in the pipeline for non-web clients?

For example if I want move up a note towards the top of the notebook stack manually. Is this possible?

Using the new web client, I constantly get this message: "Do you want to allow “https://www.evernote.com” to use up to 2.1 GB of storage on your Mac?" The message repeats itself every few minutes, increasing the GBs it is asking about. I assume this is a Safari "feature". I haven't tried it with Chrome. Are others seeing this? And another question - is this the best place for questions about the new web client? I sorta expected a new forum to be set up just for the "new" client..

Hi! There is one thing I've always needed to do with Evernote to make my notetaking faster/more intuitive. I'd love to see automatic headlines whenever I type: ENTER, [short text], ENTER. There could be a dropdown upon hovering on the headline to turn automatic headlines on/off. It just makes it faster when I don't have to pause and select a header or adjust font size/etc., and when I skim through my notes and can see the titles for each new set of paragraphs. Hotkeys in general for other quick adjustments would also be great!

That would be a last resort for me, too many opportunities for bad things to happen. Though, who knows, could be the issue. I am current with EN and Windows, have 47,590 notes as I type, a 25.6 GB data base, an eight year old docked laptop, and the only thing I see resembling a slow down is a brief lag when I close a PDF I've just modified that is stored in an EN note. I don't have any long text based notes but I do have an SSD and 8 GB of memory and I do shut down any non essential to me services within Windows. Typically have mail, EN, and a browser open. I don't know what Twinkie Dust has been sprinkled on my set up for instantaneous response time, I'd share if I could. 🤷‍♂️

Hi guys, This is the developer of EverTool, an Evernote editor helper. In this post, I would demonstrate why I create this tool, how this tool can help you enhance the productivity, and present all the features you can use in this tool. Thanks for gazumped suggested to post it on this forum. As one of the Evernote user, I love Evernote and I think it is still the best note-taking tool. However, there are some features requested by lots of users, like Markdown, text style management, templates, etc.. As an engineer, I agree that the Evernote team has their roadmap to build and enhance this product. I think to build a successful product needs time and a thoughtful plan to make sure the new features fit most of the users. But like other users, I still hope I can use Markdown, code highlight, and other features to enhance my Evernote productivity. Therefore, I build EverTool, an Evernote editor helper. What is EverTool? EverTool is a kind of third-party app for Evernote. But it's not like other third-party apps. EverTool works independently from Evernote. Working independently means two things: EverTool will NEVER request the authorization from Evernote Keep the original usage behavior of Evernote Why do I think these two points are important? Many users use Evernote to manage their data. Especially for business users, they use Evernote to save secret data and communicate with team members. When we use Evernote, we trust Evernote, but do you trust other third party integration apps they can fully access your data? Another point is keeping original usage behavior. Evernote is an excellent tool. It already provides tons of useful features. Thus, when using EverTool, you don't need to change any usage of Evernote. EverTool is just a helper. You only use it when you need it. How EverTool works? It's super easy to use. Three steps make your note better: Cut the text → Click one of the actions in EverTool → Paste to Evernote Useful features In this section, I will introduce all the features of EverTool in version 0.3.0. Before we started, just keep in mind, the usage is the same: cut and paste. Text style management When creating a note, we usually use the same font style to present the same level. This feature will be handy when you want to reuse the text style. (It's similar to the styles pan of Microsoft Word). Demo: Transform Markdown This thread has great discussion about integrating Markdown in Evernote. Here I provide the EverTool solution. Demo: Resize images to the same width When we import lots of images to Evernote, Evernote will use the original image width to present on the note. If the image is too big, it will be full width. Think about if your note has many images and all of them present full width, your note will be very long and filled with images. This action can help you resize all images to the same width in one click. Demo: Highlight text We know Evernote only provide one highlight color. This action can let users define any highlight color. Tutorial: https://evertool.app/how-to-use/customized-highlight-color Transform Excel spreadsheets to Evernote native table Some users hope Evernote can provide the more powerful table, like primary math function. But in my opinion, Excel or Google spreadsheet already do a really good job. We can keep Evernote as a presentation place and do the complicated calculation on Excel. Therefore, what we need is transform the spreadsheets to Evernote table seamless. Demo: This action support Excel, Google spreadsheet, Mac Numbers and Evernote table. Therefore, you can also use it to beautify your Evernote table! The table style is also customizable. Url → Url + Title This feature is based on my personal usage scenario. I usually paste links in my note, but it is just url not the title. Of course, I can copy the title of the web page and alter the url name in the note, but it's too slow. Thus, this action makes you select all urls and transform them to urls with the title. Demo: Highlight code Dear engineers, it's time to write your technical notes on Evernote! EverTool supports 74 different highlight code themes. Engineers can write beautiful technical notes on Evernote. Demo: In short, EverTool is an independent tool provided several useful features. It's just a helper but it's powerful. All the features mentioned above are all customizable. You can define the font style, table style, highlight code as you want. Besides, it supports on both Mac and Windows platform. If you like this app, you can buy this app on Mac and Windows store to support me develop more useful features in the future. It's a one-time payment and you can enjoy all the follow-up update. Download link: Mac Store: https://lihi.cc/l9Twv Windows Store: https://lihi.cc/c1EEv EverTool is well documented. Know more on the homepage ?https://evertool.app/ Thanks for the reading. Should you have any suggestion, please don't hesitate to leave the comment. Hope EverTool becomes the wings of Evernote. Make Evernote fly farther and higher. Cheers!

Hello Surface-Owners, just for the discussion: On my iPad Pro I use GoodNotes 5 for handwritten stuff. All handwriting gets OCRed, with amazing accuracy, is fully searchable in the app and goes with the image of the handwriting into a pdf when exported. When I import this pdf into EN, it is still fully searchable there. Other handwriting programs for the iPad offer the same features. For Goodnotes there is even a Mac client, mostly to have the stuff created on the iPad on the Mac. It syncs via iCloud.

Not stupid; but it does pay to look at the options. What's really needed is for Evernote's spell-checking to once more allow checking through an entire note, which might at least make the process simpler. That was killed off long ago, when they switched to a different spelling system. Till then, disabling spell-as-you-type is the only way to get rid of the red squiggle. Unless, of course, you want to try one of those self-help affirmations: "I am a person who likes red squiggles. Red squiggles are OK. There is nothing wrong with red squiggles. I am a person who likes red squiggles." Repeat until you either don't mind red squiggles, or get taken away.

Yeah. Thanks for the suggestion, but sadly I have a sizeable chunk of local notebooks which require exporting and re-importing if I kill my current database file. Not a huge job, but it adds some extra nitpicking I'd rather avoid if I can. If all else fails however...

I have only been using Evernote for a few months and already the number of notebooks I have is growing quite rapidly. It would be great if we could have a hierarchical structure for notebooks, something along the lines of "Current Projects" and then subnotebooks could be "Project 1," "Project 2," "Project 3;" or, a top-level notebook could be "Health" with subnotebooks "Doctor Visits," "Exercise, "Health History," etc.

Dear Evernote, I am an academic researcher working in a university, and I love using Evernote to download research articles and organize my notes - as do many of my peers. However, there is a feature that is very noticeably missing, one which improve Evernote significantly - the ability to tag portions of text within an article. If added, this feature would revolutionize the way we conduct our research and organize our literature reviews, and it would bring in a huge amount of new users in academia who would swap from OneNote and similar competitors to Evernote on this feature alone. When reading articles, we need the ability to tag certain sentences or paragraphs (e.g. "great example of X" or "argument in support of Y") within an article, ideally by highlighting the relevant section of text and clicking a tag feature. Right now, we can only add tags to the entire paper, which is useless for us if it means we have to reread and search through 30 twenty-page articles that are all tagged with "great example of X" to find a specific example. Instead, being able to tag a particular sentence or portion of text would completely streamline the academic literature review and paper writing process, and would save so much time. It would also be incredibly helpful in other ways, as it would mean that you wouldn't forget something important you read in a paper two years ago. Instead, if you could tag important sentences and paragraphs as you go along, and then later search by the tag and immediately read all the relevant sections tagged, putting together your arguments and writing a strong paper would be so, so much easier. I feel like this would be relatively easy to implement, as you already have the tag feature set up. Please, please do this. You would gain an entire sector of the academic market. Also, while we're at it, please make it possible to highlight sentences in more colors than just yellow. Often within one paragraph or page, there are many distinct and important points, and it would be helpful to highlight the distinct points in different colors; as it currently stands, if a page is filled with important points then you simply end up with an entire page covered in yellow, and it's not very useful. Having multiple highlighter colors would be great way to easily differentiate between the different points and visualize the flow of the article. Thank you!

Feature Request: Add Outlining Capabilities to Evernote Evernote is great, but it's dying for the ability to create Notes that contain Outlines which are easily collapsed and expanded during creation and in use. One way to implement it would be a switchable editing mode, between standard formatting or outline mode. In outline mode, pressing the Enter key creates a new outline item, and pressing the Tab key changes the current item into a sub-item. Clicking on an item's action icon causes its sub-items to collapse out of, or expand into view. That's the way the Ecco Pro PIM did it, and something simple like that would be a good start for Evernote. The name Evernote implies a product that takes notes -and collapsible/expandable outlines are a huge part of note taking.

The new Web client is still in beta, so features are being added (or restored) all the time. At present (even in the "previous version" of the Web client) it's not even possible to select multiple notes so that they can be merged. I too hope that merge will (re)appear soon. I can't imagine that they will overlook it indefinitely.

I've been using Evernote for a very long time and as time goes by I have seen many new features implemented making this tool we all move, more and more usefull for our life, being business or personal memo, memory notes and so on. I could not trade Evernote for anything. Evernote manage your business, your medical documents, your best ideas for that book you are writing... And many if not, all of those activities requires a money variable, being the fundings you need to manage to get that project runing or maybe managing a groceries monthly list that is usually requiring a budget and so on, would be nice to have the possibility to add financial records with a simple "money Tracker" addition. it's a chaos to add your expenses or earnings on those diferent variables just by typing the numbers on a note. I've been using third party app for all of that. But none is posible to be integrated or sync to Evernote si it ends up being anoying to Match each thing with each spends. I suggest. Since there is a huge community who deal with money on a daily basis that would be greatly beneficial to have such tool. Just like notes, photos, or audio entries, it could be a "income/expenses" entry, maybe a $ symbol that let us add (positive or negative) balance to our money, adding the entry to. Each specific books or maybe just a separate money tracker feature (if per book is more complicated). I don't know. A money tracker for us, Plus and Premium would really improve and enhance the quality tools we already have at hand. If you like this idea, please Vote this up. This could be a really usefull tool for everyone.

Please support selectively sync notebooks! Our notebook becomes bigger and bigger especial if you are a premium user. However, our Mac hard drive is usually just 256GB or 512GB. iOS, Android version Evernote all supports. Alternote also supports this feature. This feature was asked over THREE years ago by other people. And then again and again. https://discussion.evernote.com/topic/21933-archived-howto-how-do-i-not-sync-certain-notebooks-apart-from-cancel-premium/https://discussion.evernote.com/topic/39658-selective-notebook-syncing/ https://discussion.evernote.com/topic/61920-synchronize-selected-notebook-on-different-pc/ https://discussion.evernote.com/topic/60643-stop-sync-of-folder/ https://discussion.evernote.com/topic/60479-selective-sync-on-computer-roadmap/ https://discussion.evernote.com/topic/67191-syncing-only-a-few-notebooks-to-from-my-home-account-to-my-work-computer/ https://discussion.evernote.com/topic/65599-request-sync-only-select-notebooks/ I was a premium user. I like Evernote so much. But my hard drive has limited storage, so I canceled my premium account. And my friends canceled their premium accounts because of the same reason. Please support selectively sync notebooks! Thanks!

I understand what you’re saying but I, mistakenly, took premium subs. I use my iPad for everything - no desktop. Obviously my fault for not reading the App Store description correctly but there’s no way I can reverse my subscription as far as I can tell. That’s why I’m disappointed!

Thank you! I can honestly say that Evernote has been one of the most essential apps in my career and personal life, and I've evangelized for them this whole 10 years. So there's a lot I'll put up with before I decide to go... (I think it was journalist James Fallows that made me aware of it.) I'm optimistic that your suggestion will work at least at some level.

I would like the ability to select a notebook by typing the first few letters. This was very helpful in previous versions of the webclipper. I'm getting really tired of Evernote taking away functionality. I get that they want to do fun new things like group collaboration, but stop busting the basic functionality we've come to rely on and pay for!

In the current system, the updated date field will only get updated with the current date if you change the contents of the note. I think it would be helpful to have another field that would keep track of the date that tags were either added, removed to a note. This would allow us to search for notes based on a tag structure. For example, if someone tags a note "approved" but does not change the contents, one could find all notes that were approved in a specific date. This would also solve the problem when we accidentally remove a tag from a group of notes. Right now there is no way to fix this, except by going through ALL of your notes one by one to see if the note deserves the tag.

I agree very much with these concerns. The Recent Notes feature can potentially compromise privacy. To add to this, some of the notes I have in Evernote, I actually never want to see or be reminded of ever again once I am done with them. The consequence for me has been to downgrade to 6.13.3 in order to still be able to use shortcuts, which in turn, is incredibly useful.

This is the feature request that I've been crying out for. When you have dozens of notes in a notebook, having the RIGHT thumbnail image is super helpful in quickly identifying the note of interest. I know I can tag and search notes in multiple ways, and I do, but what if the most memorable identifier of a particular note is an image! Countless times, I am scanning the notes by looking at thumbnail images only. Having the WRONG image is not only an inconvenience, it actually throws me off and makes me keep looking for the note I am after. Why on earth doe Show that the message has been editeds my research note on McDonald’s have an image of a Starbucks cafe as a thumbnail (only because it appears further down in the article and EN’s algorithm decides that it’s the more relevant image)? I have a separate note on Starbucks and Lord knows what image EN decides to use for that note… Come on Evernote! After so many years, please can we get some love for the more visual users! Give your paying customers the ability to choose the thumbnail image, like so: Right click on image >> Set as thumbnail image.

It would be great to have shortcuts (or to make it configurable) to change font color to specific usable color, lets have 4: black green red blud Colors can greatly enhance the clarity and communicative power of a note, but changing colors with dialogs is too slow - especially when you take notes during a meeting. So: Ctrl + Shift + B - color to black Ctrl + Shift + R - color to red Ctrl + Shift + G - color to green Ctrl + Shift + U - color to blue Whadya say?

I'd like an easy way to automate evernote. Example automations I'd like to write at things like: add a daily diary page with customizable content (like a list of things to do) when I create a note with tag "foo", create a second note with a title based on the original one etc. I've tried the evernote api but haven't been able to get Oauth to work (I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, but that stuff is seriously complicated). If the Evernote engine contained a python interpreter and a way to attach a script to a page so that it would be run on user-specifiable triggers (time of day, page open, page create, etc.), I think that would fill the bill.
  48. 1 point

I really hate it when startups appear to have absolutely no HCI experts. Most of Evernote is pretty smooth and intuitive but this feature shows a severe lack of insight. Why do you think people even use your app? Without an electronic note taking system students need to organize bulks of printed class notes and jot down critical information into a notebook. The problem with this is you can't really copy and paste a screenshot into your notebook. Nor can you arrange those screenshots and notes into a system that follows your personal thinking process. For example, I'm studying and I keep coming across the same thing that was critical in Lecture 1. I want to take a screenshot and sort it into that information. How can I do that in Evernote? I can't! You've recreated the same problem that exists with paper notebooks but put it in an electronic medium. You've created a static organizational system where it doesn't even have to exist. Please fix this. Also, your Evernote peek App looks interesting but I have no idea how it relates to your main App. Do I have to create a separate notebook just for Flash cards? How would I be able to organize those flash cards when I have 100+ if I want to review only a subset that relate to a specific topic? You have the largest range of features but you don't know how to organize it properly so that it's user-friendly. Please get on top of this unless you want a competitor to bridge that gap.
