  3. Generally speaking; for a clean reinstal, I would not go with the export/import process The import creates a new set of notes, which then sync You end up with a duplicate set of notes The export>import solution is an interesting idea It might a new set of notes, with the updated images; these might sync to your other devices You might want to test this with a single note. I'll sit this out; once bitten, twice shy (my Evernote crash)
  4. I'm not good with Applescript. On my Mac I've just searched jpg image inside the folder where are stored all the folders containing the data. In this way I've used to drag them in stock to an app called Squash and resized. In this way from 40GB I cutted it half! Which mean a lot on my 128GB hard disk. On the Win deskopt I have a terabyte system, so I'm not strugling a lot. I've just a question, if I need to format the mac for a clean OS reinstallation, would be more appropriate do export and backup the notes instead to resync and resize all the images again?
  5. Fair enough. I never knew that that was a thing in the Windows product; it's not really part of my use case. Removal may indeed have been inadvertent (so a bug, yes: contravention of design/spec, or unintended behavior) or intentional if it was somehow problematic (which would then be a design decision, not a bug, even if it removed prior functionality) or not directly supported in the new editor framework (not a bug either, though maybe a feature awaiting eventual implementation, so a prioritization issue). Hard to know for sure unless an Evernote staffer were to comment. No question that it's inconvenient to folks who've use this type of facility, though. Indeed; however one of the MS applications I use a lot is Visual Studio, has drag/drop editing as an option (turned off in my case: it's generally too slow for my purposes; I do much better with keyboard). The MS application NotePad doesn't have it at all. WordPad does, though, so that's something, but Microsoft doesn't make standards for other applications, or when they do, they can't/don't generally enforce them. Not saying that de facto standards aren't useful, but as before, there are any number of examples of applications that don't support this one in exactly the same way. That being said, the drag/drop editing behavior is consistent with Explorer file system drag/drop behavior (drag = move, Ctrl+drag = copy), so that does strengthen that particular metaphor. I first started using Evernote in earnest in 2008, and have ever since. I think that's a pretty good length of time. I've seen most of the iterations, from the misbegotten timeline version, through the fraught C# conversion, and on into the present. Over that time, I've seen bugs and useful features alike come and go in Evernote, but yes, bugs still exist to this day, as do features that never should have been. In my book, bugs and feature requests are much the same stuff anyhow: potential development work that needs to be recognized, understood, prioritized and possibly implemented. Moving this to the Windows feature request forum allows other users to upvote the bugfix/feature request, possibly giving Evernote some food for at least prioritization purposes, if not awareness of the regression itself. Anyhow, tomato, tomahto, ice cream, gelato: I do hope for your sake and that of other drag&dropppers that it's brought back, whatever it is (I upvoted it). Cheers.
  6. ToC works. It's a static list, although there are options to make this dynamic. I've merged this request with the other discussions. You can indicate your support using the voting buttons at the top left corner.
  7. I'm trying to use a notebook as a manual. The "pages" of my manual constantly get messed up based on when I edit it. In any of my notebooks, I would LOVE to be able to rearrange notes in some order. Meanwhile, I've created a TOC, moved the links around to the preferred order, then used the hack to set the edit date to sometime in the future so the TOC stays at the top. For a previous ToC that I created in another notebook, to keep certain types of notes organized without having to merge them, it has moved "down" as more notes have been added to that notebook. It seems the date hack needs to be used to keep it on the top of the list? +1 for note pinning
  8. If I read correctly, the OP has access to both Mac and Windows clients. The GIMP has Linux, MacOS and Windows flavors. Re the Applescript approach: you would probably have to include a step to access the EN API, in order to tell EN to sync the changes?
  9. Hi, I think this is a windows problem. But the image capture started on Android, so I've included that info too. EN 8.9.1 on Android 9 on Pixel 2 XL. EN (308474) Public (CE Build ce-62.1.7539) on Win 7 To reproduce: EN for Android: Use the plus icon to create an new image note. Capture 1 image, include a few lines of text if you like. After sync, the note size reported by EN for Windows is 923 KB Using EN for Windows, right click the image and rotate counter-clockwise. The note size is now 1.1 MB. Using EN for Windows, right click the image and choose Annotate. Using Annotate tool, crop the image to about 50% of it's original size. Apply the changes. On the menu, pick Save and Exit to return to EN for Win. The note size reported by EN for Windows is now 2.4 MB! I definitely recall this being a problem in the Windows client several years ago, but I've searched the discussion forums and can't find any mention of it. Is this a known issue? Time & mood permitting, will open a ticket...
  10. The OP is currently using a Mac for batch editing of images in notes. Instead of the back-end edit, I would use Applescript; processing each note to Export the image(s) Launch the editor (Image Events/GIMP/..) and update the image Import the images >>Re the Applescript approach: you would probably have to include a step to access the EN API, in order to tell EN to sync the changes? AppleScript uses EN APIs; the sync is automatic with the image update/import https://dev.evernote.com/doc/articles/applescript.php >>If I read correctly, the OP has access to both Mac and Windows clients. The GIMP has Linux, MacOS and Windows flavors. A problem is that the images are locked inside the Evernote database. The have to be exported before any editor operations GIMP could be the editor, depending on the requirements. I like command-line options.
  11. The GIMP has nice features for batch editing, and fully supports command-line options. Perhaps there is a way to use the API, or (!) a screen scrape from the Web client, to automate the process of correctly sizing images and sync'ing those changes.
  12. Please can there be coverage of the effort to: address the backlog of bugs (real acknowledged ones, not necessarily complaints about how things are designed, or feature requests) improve regression testing tighten up the beta process so changes aren't released straight into production better version control
  13. Yeah there are different display modes (not just formatting of results, there are different controls available) depending on how you search. In most cases, there's no clear UI design rationale for using different modes. For example: I'm very thankful for reminders, but they weren't part of the EN design concept. They were shoe-horned in shortly after I starting using EN. That would date them to 2011 or 2012. Some search results modes were updated to deal with reminders intelligently, other modes were not. With well designed code, search results are rendered by the same object (block of code), regardless of how you search. So, changing that code to handle reminders would have solved the problem in all search results. This is more evidence the EN code base needs to be re-worked. No wonder it is so hard for them to make changes without introducing more bugs!
  14. After all the updates, I have been living with this problem for more than a year. Evernote tech support understood my issue but could not help me. I was wondering if this is happening to anyone else and what you did? --> Desired action - Using global short cut keys to pop up a new evernote note in the foreground of Windows no matter what windows app you are in. Error - Above not happening for last one year. Already tried - Tools > Options - there's a setting in there for 'open new note in its own window' What is actually happening - The note is created. But it remains in the background. And the Evernote icon keeps flashing on the toolbar indicating the new note is created. I have to manually select the new note screen before using it. Incredibly frustrated with support and evernote app. Tried all the updates since last one year. Could someone please help? Would be great if you have an idea! regards, Krish

  16. As an afterthought: Another visualization of Evernote relations is done by Bubble Browser, which is at least available for the Mac. It will show the note or tag structure by circles, the larger the more often a content is used. When you pick let’s say a tag, the bubbles are reduced to all notes / Tags that hold this tag, plus others. Again the number of occurrences is symbolized by the Bubble size. I found it a good tool when I want to weed out my tagging, because it will not only show seldom used tags, but with which other tags they are used jointly.
  17. About being familiar with WIndows, who can judge this on his own behalf correctly ? My first computer ran on a 8088 processor and on MS-DOS from a 5,25“ 💾 , then I worked my way trough 3.11, 95, 98, XP, skipped Vista, took 7, skipped 8 & 8.1, and am now running Win10 Home on a native desktop, plus Win 10 Pro in a VM on my Mac. So I think that I am usually not to far off when I need to guess what is going on inside of the box. But sometimes it just boils down to try and error. So I do not say „do this and that, and the sun will shine again“. It sort of surprised me that after the full brakes were applied on my PC by the clogging of the SSD, the reanimation effect only took place after restarting the OS. I think there was more in the background than just a lack of disk space. But I did not analyze, I just wanted to get performance restored and return to productively use my PC again. My personal experience with Win10 was surprisingly good until last autumn. Since then, the Windows updates were all more or less problematic or buggy. I don’t know why, but somehow they did not get it right pretty often with the first, sometimes even not with the second try. And yes, Evernote could need an overhaul for sure. For how it is set up, it is doing bravely well. Still you can feel the limitations everywhere. But this is another story ...
  18. Today I have had a sort of freezing as well again. What was different to before: While the app did nothing, the data connection wheel kept spinning and spinning. In the end I force -closed the app, waited a few seconds, reopened and things were o.k. again. Now I had regrouped a lot of notes a few days ago, like tagging, moving from inbox into the destination notebooks, merging and deleting notebooks etc. This alone was worth more than 1 GB of upload consumption, because EN treats all this as new content. The iOS client does not hold note content, but still a lot of overhead / metadata. So first I can not reproduce this, because I will not redo that many notes in the next future. But I will observe if it was a one-timer (then probably caused by a lot of syncing), or if it will happen again. If this takes place, I will go straight to reopen the support ticket on this that was closed when the new client version got released. For serious work on the database, I use the Mac or Windows clients, but most of my EN day to day retrieval happens on my iPad. I want this to perform dead sure when I need it.
  19. @luckman212 and @Caryn, do you have more than one Evernote account logged into Evernote and switch between accounts? If so, can you reproduce this issue if you log out all other accounts and just leave one? If you can DM me your activity logs too, that would be ideal. 1. Open Evernote for Mac 2. Hold down **Option** on the keyboard then click **Help > Show Logs in Finder...** from the menu to open the "logs" folder 3. Attach all the log files in your DM to me. Thanks for the help!
  20. Thanks for reporting. We're able to reproduce it and are looking into it right now. Unfortunately the best workaround here is to put in your user administrator password and press always allow when this comes up.
  21. I'm having the same problem. Version 7.10 (457750 Direct) Editor: 69.1.8237 (1f0aea9)
  22. Don't know on this one. How many off line notes? I have over 34,000 notes that sync, of which only 10 or so are in off line notebooks, so mostly download when I need a note. No speed issues at all since a couple of releases ago. Only annoyance is when I return to the app sometimes I don't go back to the note that was open when I switched from EN.
  23. This is the Evernote for Windows client, correct?
  24. Agree with all above. After seeing the trouble others have gone to - it's clearly not worth barking up this EN tree and giving up is the better option. Sorry EN developers - otherwise, great product but time to go and delete that premium subscription.
  25. File under "No good deed goes unpunished". Yah. Correct support response for this would be "Sorry, but don't do that."
26. On my iPhone, when viewing a note if you press the share button, there is a "more sharing options" available. If you select that, you can then select "share outside of Evernote. Pressing that gives you the option to share with Message. I haven't used this much but it appears to create a text message with an evernote link to that specific note.
  27. I make some back-end updates to images, and replicated your issue. The updated images will not sync. I now have different image files on my Mac compared to the other platforms The note contents sync ok, not the images I had an idea; duplicate the note with the updated image. Don't try this. My installation is corrupted and I will have to reinstall We could open a support ticket but I don't think it will go far. Back-end updates are not a sanctioned activity. fwiw The sync process is device <> server <> device When debugging sync issues, check the server data using the web platform at www.evernote.com
  28. It might help if you post a screenshot. I don't spend much time troubleshooting my devices First step would be to trigger a full sync - Hold the **Shift** and **Option** keys on your keyboard and click the sync wheel Next step would be remove Evernote, and do a new installation. - The app AppCleaner is recommended for this.
