Sorting options need to be folder-specific

A default sort order is a good idea.

But when I change the sort order in one notebook (a short one with 10 notes in numbered steps)
so that it is alpha-ascending, I don't want that change to apply to all notebooks (for example, my big one, which has 
a myriad of notes, that is sorted in by date-descending.

You might want to update your post, and replace folder with notebook

I'm not a big notebook user, but I vote for sort order to be preserved with saved searches, which addresses notebooks.

You might do a search for such feature requests ans add your vote.
