Safari Bug: Web Clipper not clipping whole articles poorly

Recommended Posts

Using the WebClipper in either Safari or Chrome - results where the text overlaps. I'm sure the simplify article would work but it loses too much formatting.

As a sample see: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/From_the_Mixed-Up_Files_of_Mrs._Basil_E._Frankweiler

Which clipped like: https://www.evernote.com/l/AA8UVX09Iy5I3LP_iti2VAvEuEFgeS60_tw

Since you're just copying the HTML to your own store this should be doable.

@Mark Levison;

Can you try clearing the browser cache's and data as well as disabling any other extensions you have running and let me know if the issue persists?

How to Clear Cache and Cookies in Chrome

If you have any other extensions enabled in Chrome, try disabling those as well and let me know if that resolves the issue.

Manage Chrome Extensions

For Safari:

From the menu bar, select Safari > Preferences > Privacy > Remove all website data

Also, if you have any other Safari browser extensions enabled, try disabling those using the steps in the following article:

Manage Safari Extensions

I look forward to your response!

I've disabled every extension, cleared the cache, restarted Safari - and I get  https://www.evernote.com/l/AA_lXao4LHlFO7Uudjelf3pyMQ3nuEPwDvU when I clip the article.

Browser Safari - although I get similar problems in Chrome. What do you get when you clip the same page?

I just clipped the example page that you showed in your original post and when I clipped it as an article I ended up with the same result as you did. I went back and clipped it as Full Page and it formatted perfectly. I'm not sure why the article does that but just wanted to let you know that the full page option was good to go if you hadn't tried it already.

Thanks. However the reason to use the WebClipper is that cleans up pages of ads etc. Another example from HBR: https://www.evernote.com/shard/s15/nl/418274871/5c5ed329-79c3-4416-a5a4-f9aee3bcfbfc/ - this is killing the WebClipper for me :-(

Do we have enough examples to resolve the bug quickly?

I think I'm a bit lost in your last response. Both of my examples were done with the WebClipper just a different option within it. I'm assuming that you would prefer to clip everything as an article and not full page? Or am I reading that wrong? I can't look at your latest example because it's a private note.

I find version 6.9 of the EWC to be consistently pretty bad with NYTimes articles. This is under OS X 10.11.6 (Safari 9.1.3). Here are a few:

In these cases, clipping as article seems to work much better than clipping as full page.

And yes, in general clipping seems to work better in Chrome than Safari, but the EWC is a slightly later version (6.9.2)… Does that really prove it's a Safari/WebKit problem?
