Text does not automatically format when typing in Korean

Whenever I type in Korean, the text always comes out unformatted. For example, even if I set the text to be red and bolded, the characters come out plain like this: ㄱ,ㄴ,ㄷ,ㄹ,ㅂ, ...

The only ways to change the format of the Korean text, as far as I know, is to first type the text, highlight it, and then apply formatting, or first type an English character with the desired format, switch to Hangul, and then proceed to type in Korean.
