rgoyal 0
I accidentally synced two evernote accounts which were not meant to by synced and it deleted thousands of notes. Is there anyway to retrieve notes that were deleted through a syncing error? Thanks Link to comment

Go to the web and check would be a suggestion. Relative to deleted notes, the only way I know to recover is from a backup. Do you have any backups for the notes? Link to comment
nohb 27
@rgoyal Can you tell us a little bit more about what steps were taken before you noticed that your notes were deleted? Did you merge two accounts by exporting/importing notes from one account to the other? Have you checked the Trash notebook for the deleted notes? From there you can restore them back to your notebook. The Trash notebook is located towards the end of your notebook list. Link to comment

rgoyal 0
I don't think I did a manual back up, but if I did, where would it be? Link to comment
Level 5* DTLow 5,744 Posted June 17, 2016 Level 5* Share Posted June 17, 2016 @rgoyal If you don't know about backups, you probably don't have one Your first action should be to check the Trash notebooks (both accounts) to see if you can restore your notes. Link to comment

I'm going to go out on a limb here, and suggest that if you don't have a clue as to where your backup files are located, then most likelly no backup as made. However, you could search for the following files on your local hard drive: *.enex You might also find these articles helpful: Back up and restore: frequently asked questions Backup file extensions list Link to comment

Unfortunately this is a harsh lesson in the importance of backing things up, but luckily I didn't lose everything! Thanks for all of your help guys. Link to comment

I have found it a good practice to organize backups like this: If at all possible, have a dedicated external drive (like a USB drive) for all backups Then folders for each major app/category, like "Evernote" If you use a Backup System (which is advisible) like Mac Time Machine or Windows Backup, then make a folder just for it to use. Don't go cheap on this drive -- it's worth the extra bucks to get a high quality, long-life drive so you know your backups are always reliable and available. For safety, reliability, and capacity reasons, I would replace this drive about every 3 years. If you have the budget, spring for a dual-drive system configured as RAID 1. This means mirrored drives, so if one fails you don't lose anything. If storing on your local drive, then have a top-level folder named "BACKUP" Then sub-folders for each major app/category, like "Evernote" If nothing else, you can always search for "backup" and find you backups. Here's another tip: Create an Evernote Note titled something like "My IT Management" (whatever is meaningful to you) Make this be a "Master" note (by assigning a tag named "Master") Use this to record how//where you do your personal IT management, like backups. If you have a lot of details for one process, create a separate note for it, and then create a note link in the Master Note. I would also have tags of "IT", "My.Maint", "!Fav". But that's just me, I like to use tags. Link to comment
