Google Analytics: Little Snitch vs. HOSTS

Recommended Posts

I'm on Windows 7 Pro x64 and this post is about the Evernote desktop client.

Apologies if this has already been covered, but I haven't been able to find it. I use a HOSTS file to restrict web traffic — mostly tracking services, etc. Evernote would regularly become unresponsive, which always corresponded with the Activity Log error quoted below. I'm assuming, therefore, that this error was causing Evernote to become unresponsive.

Google Analytics: Failed to send event (error: Unknown error 0x800C0005)

I commented out google-analytics.com , ssl.google-analytics.com , and www.google-analytics.com from my restricted web traffic and Evernote no longer produces this error or becomes unresponsive.

However, I don't like making a system-wide exception to accommodate Evernote. I see Little Snitch recommended in many posts regarding Evernote's use of Google Analytics and I'm considering retiring my HOSTS file in favor of Little Snitch.

Can anyone confirm that Little Snitch does not impact Evernote's performance?

Also, has anyone else experienced the unresponsive behavior described above, and were you able to resolve the issue another way?
