Right now if I use a keyboard with my iPad to make something bold, by pressing cmd + B, it will make the next thing I type bold, but it will not toggle the UI button for bold, the UI element won't toggle until I start typing. Pressing cmd + B should toggle the UI element as well so that the state of bold/not bold is more easily seen.
