Shawn Ramirez 0
I have notebook that I have shared with someone. That person is using the windows client. This person is able to add notes to the shared notebook but can not add tags. What configuration change do I need to do so they can add tags. Thanks. Link to comment
Level 5* DTLow 5,745 Posted January 19, 2016 Level 5* Share Posted January 19, 2016 That was my understanding of a restriction on shared notebooks. The other parties can not add tags. They can only use your set of tags. Link to comment
Level 5* gazumped 12,079 Posted January 20, 2016 Level 5* Share Posted January 20, 2016 @DTLow is correct - only the owner of the notebook can create tags. If you set up a new tag that just reads <newtag> other users can request the addition of new tags by adding a new note, tagging it <newtag>, and including a keyword in a format you've previously agreed to indicate what new tag is required - ##newtag - for example. If you then do a daily search for that tag you can create and apply the required specialist tag, and remove the <newtag>. Edit - it's actually a lot better to have one person managing tags than allow several to tag in their own individual ways... Link to comment
Holmes245 11
Is there a bug with sharing tags though? My brother and I have two shared notebooks in Evernote, both created by him. He's given me view and edit rights but when I try to use tags that he created to notes I've added to the notebooks, I'm not able to at all. This isn't a case where I'm trying to add new tags which I know I can't. This is a case where I'm trying to use tags he's created and can't. Does anyone know if this is a bug or is there something I"m overlooking? Link to comment

If you can't use an existing tag, please submit a support request... Link to comment
Holmes245 11
I wasn't asking if the owner of the notebook can create tags. What I was asking is whether or not the person who the notebook is shared with is able to use the tags the owner created. I wasn't sure if that was possible but apparently it is and mine's not working (surprise, surprise). So, in an indirect way, thanks for answering my question. Link to comment
Derotic LLC 0
Why is it that only the owner of the notebook can create tags in it? There should be some way to grant full access to a user you are sharing with, even for the tags. I use this to store receipts for accounting purposes, and I've created Notebooks that directly correlate to my accounting codes...Advertising, Auto, Travel, etc. My employees use the mobile Evernote app to take pictures of their receipts and add them to the proper Notebooks so if we get audited we can easily find them. The problem is that they also need to tag the receipt with the customer and a chassis number (we sell emergency vehicles) so that those expenses are attached to a specific unit. That way those expenses come out of the commission for the vehicle and our P&L is correct. I've tried using QBO to keep track of receipts like this, but if the receipt isn't added on the exact same day as the expense it creates a duplicate expense...not good. So, this seemed to be the best option, but now that they can't create tags I'm stuck again. Is there any way to allow users to create tags in shared Notebooks? Link to comment

You might want to look at Evernote Business which has a different approach - but with regard to standard Premium, Plus and Basic apps, the answer to your question is 'no' sorry. Tags are not notebook specific; tags apply to the account. To create a tag in one of my notebooks, you would be creating a tag in my account. >>Theproblem is that they also need to tag the receipt with the customer and a chassis number. I use this to store receipts for accounting purposes In my use of shared notebooks, we have a master note tagged with all allowable tags. Sharees sometimes request a new tag; they put this into the note title and I follow up later. For example title "blah blah newtag_12345" Link to comment
