"View in Evernote" button won't open note in browser

I installed the evernote app, but decided that I would rather continue to use the browser. Trying to see if I can make the jump to a Chromebook.  

Unfortunately, after uninstalling the mac client, when I'm viewing a shared note link - I'm unable to open it within the browser. The "View in Evernote" link throws this error: "There is no application set to open the URL evernote:///view/......" and tries to have me download the app again. Prior to installing the app, the notes opened up right in the browser window, did they not? How do I get this behavior back?
