I have set up an application on my iPhone (Awesome Notes) to have access to my evernotes account. It is set  up to expire in a year. Can I set it up to never expire?

From dim memory you can choose some time options when you allow access - from a day to a year maybe - but one year might be the max.  It's for your own security,  and you'll get an automatic reminder before the expiry that an extension is required.  If you stop using the app and forget to revoke the security,  it will automatically time out - which is better than leaving a permanently open access for an unused app.  If you continue using it,  the renewal will be an annual quick chore.  You can view (but not alter) existing permissions via your account settings by logging on here in a desktop browser - https://www.evernote.com/AuthorizedServices.action

Yup, Gaz is correct, the longest authorization you can issue is for one year.  There's no capability for a "never-expiring" authorization.
