We've just released an update for Evernote 3.0 Windows client - ver. 3.0.0.518. This is a minor hotfix - it improves application look & feel and addresses a number of bugs, including those reported on this forum. Many thanks to all the beta testers for helping us build a better product!

Those of you who already run the client will get an update prompt automatically when you re-start the application. Newcomers can download the latest and greatest Beta version from http://www.evernote.com/download/beta/#windows. You can read the Release Notes and look up Known Problems at http://www.evernote.com/support/beta/knownproblems.php.

In the near future we'll be rolling out significant functionality improvements, fixing bugs, and making changes based on your feedback. We'll try to be responsive and will be doing frequent releases. Stay tuned... and thank you!

This morning, I received an in-EverNote3 upgrade notice from 525 to 539. I installed it, but wanted to let you know that nothing happened when I clicked on the "Release Notes" link from the upgrade notification message.

I'll try it again from my office computer, but thought you'd want to know about this small issue.

I was also thinking it would be nice if the upgrade notification message offered a button that would copy the upgrade notice to EverNote3. Would be a nice way to allow users to keep track...

Didn't see mention in the release notes online if the bug that was causing the import of my "main" 2.2.1 ENbase to fail was fixed or not. The bug was something to do with encryption and the

 tags...

Has that bug been fixed in this build?

Not fixed yet (application no more crashes if it sees encrypted fragment inside

, but doesn't import such note correctly either -- the encrypted fragment is lost). We'll work on this further.

Thanks for the update. Arrgh... I was hoping to be able to import my main 2.2.1 ENbase as a local-only Notebook for testing. Will have to wait until this bug is fixed to do that, I guess...

I can confirm that. The link doesn't work both on XP SP2 and Vista SP1 (XP with IE as the default browser, Vista with FireFox2 as the default).

tags were fixed just yesterday, and will be available in the next build. We'll notify via the release notes that this is the good moment to re-import 2.x database, as we now handle the imported data more correctly.

Yes, you can install 3.0.0.542 directly and it will work in parallel with your Evernote 2.2. Then, you can import the .enb database from Evernote 2.2 into Evernote 3.0 (the original .enb file will remain untouched), and thus you will be able to use test Evernote 3 with all your notes, while having the fully working Evernote 2.2.

I don't like TAB now forcing a new line as well as an indent - is there any way to turn that off?

Bear in mind that Evernote3 currently has storage limitations; it is not able to handle my large (160 meg) 2.2.1 database. This is a temporary beta limitation as I understand it, and will be modified (or removed?) in the release product.

I just updated to version 3.0.0.582 and thus far, it seems fine. I'll let you know if I run into any issues.

I just updated to .594 as well. The announcement said that there is now pdf support, but I could not find any documentation regarding this - the present version seems to just allow you to copy plain text from the pdf (no link back to the original pdf document) as was always the case.

Stephen

PS. Still no support for saved searches for special characters (e.g. '@' '#') and no way to attach saved searches to tags (like autocategories in 2.2).

You can just drag a PDF file onto the Windows client, and it will embed that PDF file into a note. The PDF will then be synchronized to the service, and you can access it from any other computer.

Searching is based on words, which are built of letters, numbers and underscores. This means you can search for "_foo" or "1234bob".

I have a large number of PDFs filed in Paperport on Windows, and I've been waiting for Windows Evernote PDF support to start moving my Paperport data to Evernote. Is this the final PDF support, or will we see searchable PDF text in future Evernote releases?

If we move the PDF links over now, and subsequently future Evernote releases add text search for PDFs, will we need to re-import them, or will Evernote go back and index old PDF links?

PDFs in notes are indexed for searching on the web and in the Mac now, and we plan to add similar functionality on Windows. (This is a bit more work on Windows, since Mac gives us native PDF support "for free".) When PDF searching is added to Windows, existing notes will be indexed as part of the upgrade, so feel free to create PDF notes now. I don't have a specific date for Win32 PDF searching yet ... we're still investigating candidate libraries to use, etc.

Thanks

I am still finding the forced blockquotes whenever I press TAB highly annoying. Is there a way to turn this off?

Also, when clicking on a note above another note in the new versions, the window jumps to a new spot with the entire note highlighted below it.

It also loses what note you're working on when it synchronizes.

The UI seems to be suffering a lot here.

Just tried this and, unfortunately, it doesn't work in .594. A search for "_foo" gets all foos (with or without underscores) and suddenly I'm surrounded by foos.

Thanks for the report, this is incorrect behavior and will be fixed. (Can't have our users surrounded by foos...)
