What's up with this?/'Not Responding' issue

I've been having issues with Evernote constantly freezing up on me and showing 'Not Responding'. I just checked the activity log and here's a part of it:

What's the deal with it, and does it have anything to do with Evernote freezing?

The "Not Responding" curse has been around for quite a while. Evernote is aware of the issue. There have been several program upgrades that try to address this issue, but the users continue to see it. I frequently see it when I run a search just after opening the program. I have done several uninstall / reinstalls and continue to see it pop up. I used to see 8-minute long "Not Responding" freezes. The time is more acceptable now - it is down to a minute wait.

I thought it was due to a large count of notes (30,000+), but the complaint pops up from users with a couple thousand notes.

 

Some users suggest the solution is to buy a new SSD solid state drive. I have not seen any reply from Evernote that concurs with this recommendation. If that really is the solution, Evernote should acknowledge it and push users to buy a replacement drive. Their silence leads me to believe there is something else going on with the program.
