Tony Vella 2
When I create a table (2 columns, in my case), is there a way to tell the program to make the two columns of equal width rather than adjusting the width as I enter data? I ask the question because I notice that once the data is entered and the program has adjusted the width of the columns, there is no way I can re-adjust the width to make the columns equal. Thanks in advance. Link to comment
Level 5* gazumped 10,333 Posted June 19, 2015 Level 5* Share Posted June 19, 2015 Hi. There are no Evernote direct controls (yet), but there is an old HTML programmer's trick that might help. Get your table, add your text, and when you're happy with the content, add some invisible (background colour) text. Short Words | can stand equal next to long (or more) words++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ | ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Select the "+" signs and change the colour to white, and it looks... reasonable. Level 5* CalS 5,103 Posted June 19, 2015 Level 5* Share Posted June 19, 2015 @Gaz, It used to work that way. In the new Beta no matter what % you set for the table width it is created at 100% panel width, though you can re-size it now. But hidden characters no longer hold column widths across views (either List view, or Snippet view). It appears the table is always x% of the available panel and the columns adjust accordingly. So if you force your column widths at the smallest panel maybe you could make it work, but then don't enter any data into the table. Or maybe I'm just not doing it right. Full disclosure, I have one template that seems to hold column width fixed, the others (obviously the ones I use the most) are toast. Clueless as to why. Major PITA. Link to comment
Level 5* gazumped 10,333 Posted June 19, 2015 Level 5* Share Posted June 19, 2015 Nooooooo!! That was my favourite fix! And it's all gone. Er.. maybe I'm doing this wrong, but I set up a 3x3 test grid in a new note and entered small / medium / large amounts of text in the three top columns. There was no automatic change in the column widths, so I altered them manually to suitable widths. Then changed view several times. They came up in the same format in each view. Then I copied and pasted the text the reverse way around - large amounts in the small collumn, medium in medium (Doh.) and small in large. Twice. No changes to my manual column layout in any view. The layout seems bullet-proof for the moment at last. YMM-definitely-V Link to comment

All I did was change view between them, and added text on a row after the view change. Hope it is clear enough. #1 #2 #3 Link to comment

Thanks in advance. Best why I have found to get the exact table layout that I want is to create the table in MS Word. Lots of table choices there. Then copy the Word table and paste into Evernote. Disclaimer: This used to always work. But EN Mac 6.0.13 broke the paste of tables from all sources. I'm not sure about the latest version of EN Win. Link to comment
Level 5* CalS 5,103 Posted June 19, 2015 Level 5* Share Posted June 19, 2015 New EN Win beta seems to want to dynamically adjust table width to panel size, no matter what you do. A mite broken in my view. Link to comment
