The latest version of EN for Android seems to default to not keeping a copy of the picture - a feature much requested by some users. Evernote say they're considering adding an option to keep/ not keep a copy of any pictures. Meantime you would be able to guarantee that a copy is kept if you take a normal picture with the device camera, then go into Gallery and choose to share that with / send it to Evernote.
