(Archived) Using Evernote and Dropbox together

Idea

I am trying to find a way to move my Evernote folder on my Mac from its original home in Library/Application Support to my Dropbox folder. I was able to do this quite easily with 1Password. I simply drag and dropped the 1Password database into my Dropbox folder and then told 1Password in its Preferences section to see the new location. I know that with iPhoto one can do the same by moving the database and then holding down the option key when restarting iPhoto and telling it which location to use.

However, with Evernote I have been unsuccessful. I tried to find a way to let Evernote know that I had moved the folder but there's no way, I know if, to do this. I then tried moving the Evernote folder and creating an Alias and moving the Alias back to the original Application Support folder but Evernote got upset and wouldn't work.

Does anyone have any ideas of how I might do this type of configuration?

Evernote is storing an interactive database of data that wouldn't be safe to shuffle around via Dropbox. I checked with our Mac lead, and I think this would have a very high risk of data corruption even if you could make it work, unfortunately.

You could consider doing some sort of backup when Evernote isn't running, and placing this backup into Dropbox, but the real interactive database used by our app isn't safe to use in this way.

Bit late I know, but I am curious to know why you might want to do this?

Dropbox is a way to sync files between computers whilst keeping a copy in the Cloud. Evernote has exactly the same functionality built in. As far as I can see, you don't gain anything by using Dropbox in conjunction with Evernote.

Am I missing something?

In my case I use SugarSync but it's more of the same.

For me, the 1st use would as a safety net. I love EverNote, i'm Premium and hope you are around for a long time but what happens to all my notes if you go out of business? I need a safe way to keep a 'hard copy' of all this that's not in a proprietary database.

I'm an avid iPad user. Both personal and work. I'd like to have a friendly interface between my SugarSync and EverNote accounts. I know I can send email links between those two but it's not the same as a simple 'clicky' interface.

There are some file size limitation between on EverNote that I don't have with SugarSync. I have a 100 Gigabytes account there so MUCH of my stuff is already there. Unless I need to clip/extract something specific into a note I rather live the file into SugarSync and just refer to it.

Lastly, sometimes I have large files folder that i'd like to reference into a note. A nice 'folder' looking icon that would pop my sugarsync client and bring me to my folder would be realllll nice.

OP is talking about putting his/her Evernote database in Dropbox. That's not the same as having notes/files in Evernote and in Dropbox/Sugar Sync as a secondary backup, which sounds like what you are doing. (And which I'm a big proponent of, too!)
