gfizzle 2 Posted May 22, 2015 Share Posted May 22, 2015 I have evernote on all of my devices and an older Windows 7 laptop that had a hard drive crash. I did not sync that laptop since it contained work information. The .enb databases were backed up and later restored but the executable no longer exists. Can someone point me to an old evernote 2.x(?) executable? Once I import those databases I can then upgrade based on what I read from other posts. Link to comment
Level 5* gazumped 11,652 Posted May 22, 2015 Level 5* Share Posted May 22, 2015 Hi. v2.x is a 7-8 year old version of Evernote, and the database would require updating through a couple of intermediate stages before being accessible in a current edition. Before you try to recover your data though please don't forget to backup it up so that you will have the opportunity to try different methods if someone else can come up with another suggestion. Sorry about that - I've no special expertise on these old versions, I just ran a Google search for evernote "version 2" which turned up a lot of hits, but not very many useful links. The only other possibility I found was for http://jlog.jgen.ws/evernote-2-2-1-386-0/ - which also has a long tail of comments. If you can't find the exact version you need, you may be OK with something closely related - I don't know when the ENB format was changed, but versions a little newer than yours should be OK with it. Back up your files carefully though... Link to comment
BurgersNFries 2,407 Posted June 4, 2015 Share Posted June 4, 2015 Version 2 files are definitely NOT compatible with later versions of Evernote. If you cannot find a copy of V2 through something like Filehippo, then it would seem your only option is to upgrade from a free Evernote account, if you haven't already, and submit a support ticket. I'm not 100% sure they would be able to get you a copy, since that version has not been supported for over six years. But if you do get a copy, then you would need to also get a copy of 3.x in order to migrate from the 2.x database. And there may even be another update you'd need to do, since I think the 3.x database is not compatible with the latest versions, either. Link to comment

Currently it converts HTML notes only, all other EN2 note types are skipped. I may add support for other formats if someone needs it. gfizzle 2 Posted June 4, 2015 Author Share Posted June 4, 2015 Thank you all . gazumped, I went looking further as well using the more detailed version in the search and pulled up some unscrupulous sites as per my antivirus program.BurgersNFries, You are exactly right as I have read this in several forums but I needed to get off the ground with the Version 2 to start.kvitekp, I feel like it's my birthday (it actually is tomorrow) as I could not find my old Evernote setup executables on any old backup drives, old laptops, or on the web. I must have had one backup drive fail too many. I will install Version 2 first (yes, I do have an encrypted backup of the enb databases) as soon as I finish up a product delivery deadline and let you guys know how it went. In addition, I am fascinated that the v2.3 can co-exist with modern version of Evernote. Why is that and Is that true for v3.1 as well? You can bet I would like the EN2Export to support screen shots from evernote and manual editted notes. Link to comment

You can bet I would like the EN2Export to support screen shots from evernote and manual editted notes.All public Evernote versions keep their settings in HKCU/Evernote/Evernote. That patched Evernote 2.x version keeps its settings in HKCU/Evernote/Evernote2 -- this prevents interference with any other version of Evernote. Chances are that your screen shots and manually edited notes are stored as html notes, so they will be converted too. Link to comment

Please note that none of the above is supported by Evernote Customer Support at this point. /PeterI've been looking for something like this for literally years so thank you Peter !(and after another 3 hours searching today for the earlier information that I recall BurgerNFries had provided through these forums a couple of years ago (on which specific versions of Evernote are required to upgrade the database schema to the different intermediate levels to get your database up to the latest .exb format and I'd still like to find the post she made on that) it is a pleasant surprise to see her adding to this thread as well.The earlier versions cleaner and quicker GUI is still a clear winner for readability.(That said, the later versions do have a wider range of functionality & compatibility with different systems)I have the v2.3 up and running now alongside the latest version as well so it's a win-win situation here. • Is it possible with EN2Export that some summary information of the exports outcome could be made available, indicating the number of notes that were successfully exported and those that were not ?In terms of note management when performing this activity, I would be looking to know whether the Export was completely successful or partially successful and if partial, what were the exceptions that require further handling.(I have well over a hundred separate Evernote v2.1.327 databases (the very last Evernote before online storage and subsequent syncing of notes was started) with several thousands of notes in some of them.)
