Can Evernote help for this task?

Recommended Posts

I would be grateful if you can let me know whether Evernote can help with the following task.

I am a survey pilot, and fly with a bluetooth headset connected to my iPhone so can use Siri to make commands while flying. I would like to be able to dictate via Siri short notes about flight conditions that are time and geo-stamped that are relevant by the software engineers on the ground who process the images that I take. Examples might be "severe turbulence", "camera overspeed", "flying low due to cloud" or other technical details which would help the processing engineers better understand any problems with the images. Ideally I would like it be possible to view the locations of the notes on Google Earth. Is this possible with Evernote?

Hi.  You have a pretty specialised requirement,  which I don't think Evernote could fulfill.  Recording one location might be possible,  but recording a series to be followed in sequence through voice recordings is not.  I can't suggest anything that might be able to do so either.  It might be possible to develop something based off Evernote's API if you can contact an appropriate developer, but that's a longer term prospect...

Thanks - I guessed it might not be possible. Currently I use simple marker codes on an Inmarsat geotracking system to mark pertinent events - but that is limited to four different "events" and would like to improve on that. Ah well, maybe in the future.

Don't know if it would work, but you could try using Siri to send emails to EN.  "Siri, email Evernote severe turbulence.....".  Might take longer than you would like working through the Siri conversation and I don't think location would be included, but there would be a time stamp on the email.  FWIW.

There's an iOS app called vJournal that will append a time stamp and location to any text you send through to Evernote AND append those details to one consolidated note in Evernote for each day (along with location and time stamps on a blow-by-blow basis), no matter how many separate entries you make. You can also attach images, add checkboxes, etc.

So... you can use Siri to dictate within the vJournal app... and if you wish, attach an image before sending. The location and time stamps can be enabled to work automatically.

In your Evernote note, you'll see a Google maps link to your location at the time of each entry, alongside the time stamp. The note title is today's date.

PLUS, vJournal is a lot quicker to manage than the Evernote app itself. I've used it quite extensively. On one occasion I used it to track my daughters temperature every 15 minutes when she had a fever. I simply entered the temperature and sent it off to Evernote.

Another snappy little app which sends to Evernote (but does not append to one note for today like vJournal), called SnapEntry, allows you to add a time stamp manually (tap of a button) at the time of entry... no location, though. You can automate tags and notebook destination among a few other features. Beautifully minimalist interface.
