Free vs Premium

Is it worth paying PREMIUM? When I was a FREE member I got HELP queries answered quite quickly However now I am a PREMIUM member I don't.

 

BUT two weeks +  ago I "lost" all my notes (8,000 over 4 years)  I still have no resolution and no response to last two HELP tickets  I have been patient and not flooded HELP DESK - I also don't seem to have access to LIVE HELP. I have "LOST" notes on two occasions when I was a free member and got talked through exactly what to do.  My initial response from HELP DESK was not helpful and my follow-up led me nowhere?  Should I simply close my account and claim money back? I am a big fan of EVERNOTE so would be sorry to have to move away but there are some important notes I have lost that are hampering me in my business

 

 I just the comment on the forum (which, at this stage. I have to disagree with Has anyone any pointers to stop my impending divorce from Evernote please?

1. Premium makes a difference. We aim to have fast response times for all submitted tickets, but in times of higher than normal volume, being Premium will ensure you get to the front of the line.

Evernote's support used to be stellar, even for free users. They have discontinued support for free users, telling them to come to this users message board for help. And even one of the newer EN staff who occasionally posts here, posts replies that indicate either the EN staff did not really read the question and/or did not provide an accurate answer. Even support for premium users appears to have degenerated as well. You should be able to use the chat feature, if you are premium. But IIRC, chat is only available during certain hours.

I used to be an avid EN user and advocate. I had over 66,000 notes. But the flavor of the company has changed over the past couple of years. Since Evernote has continued to not address the issue of scalability (which caused the EN app to become unusable on my Windows PC, my iPad & iPhone), I migrated to Onenote last year. Unfortunately, Onenote does not work as well for me as Evernote did (when I only had a few thousand notes). But at least it works.

I am concerned. Why did I just get asked if I have TIMEMACHINE backup I thought my notes were safe? So have I  lost them and they are not retrievable? Please explain why EVERNOTE users have to have their own backup  - I know I  should  always backup but I thought EVERNOTE was a backup option   Why should I use EVERNOTE if I can simply back everything up  I am concerned and confused

Evernote is not a backup program. Evernote is an app to collect, organize & retrieve your notes. It syncs to a cloud so you can access those notes from a variety of computers and/or platforms. And yes, users should backup their Evernote databases, if the information is valuable to them.

Evernote is NOT a backup system.  The Evernote Cloud Service provides the primary storage for its application, which most closely resembles a Personal Information Manager (PIM).

 

As with any cloud-based application, if you do not personally backup your data outside of that application you run the risk of losing data.

 

I saw the backify offer as well. And the Box.net one for iPad/Touchpad users.

I just want to clarify something - Evernote's business model is not "cloud storage." We are your "External brain". Your personal "search engine", if you will. 

 

IMO, since Heather (former EN Dir of Support) was responding to a post about a backup service, I think she was trying to make clear that Evernote is NOT a backup service.

 

Here's a huge clue:  A true backup service allows selective restore over a range of time.  Evernote does NOT.

 

There are a number of excellent backup systems available, some that run on your local machine, some online.

Evernote is NOT one of these.
