Offline Evernote

I read other threads here saying if you have a premium account I would be able to read my notes offline.  I just tested that by turning off wifi and turning on airplane mode.    When i tried to open a note it said to try later when i had an internet connection.  I'm heading overseas next month for a bit and planned on using that info on my Android phone or tablet whether or not I can get signal.  Do i have to change something to enable it?
