wannagetout 0 Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 HiI'd like ot delete my account, completely, not just deactivate it.It seems only premium users car contact tech support so how can I do it?In this day and age I find it infuriating not to be able to do this easily. It's easier to do it on facebook, and that's quite something. Thanks
wannagetout 0 Posted March 10, 2015 Author Posted March 10, 2015 Nope, that only allows me to deactivate my account....
Level 5* jefito 5,598 Posted March 10, 2015 Level 5* Posted March 10, 2015 As best I know, you cannot delete your account, but you can deactivate it and delete all of your data. See https://evernote.com/contact/support/kb/#!/article/23403793
Level 5* GrumpyMonkey 4,320 Posted March 10, 2015 Level 5* Posted March 10, 2015 You can delete your data and deactivate your account. Then, you have to request that Evernote delete it ( I don't know if they will do this for free users, because only premium users have guaranteed support). Your data will take about a year to get completely purged from all servers (as I recall).
wannagetout 0 Posted March 10, 2015 Author Posted March 10, 2015 It is so frustrating not to be able to just delete an account. It says a lot about the respect Evernote has towards its users. Now I'm going to have to waste my time researching the Swiss law to find the adequate articles about privacy and data protection. What a bore.

What a bore. It is frustrating, but that's how the system is set up. As we said, delete your data, and it will eventually get cycled out of the system. Contact support and they will delete your account. I doubt Swiss law requires a button for users to delete the account themselves. If you cannot get Evernote to delete it, then that might be a problem, but you have to contact support first to find out.
Level 5* gazumped 12,235 Posted March 11, 2015 Level 5* Posted March 11, 2015 Being a database, Evernote holds valuable documents for some users which might simply be stored there for a long time, or have been forgotten in a dormant account. As a service to account holders, Evernote doesn't delete databases unless asked to do so by the owner of the account. Hence the need for a request. If you don't care to follow that process, you could simply delete any notes in your account and not use it in future. The empty account will sync back to Evernote's servers and delete any copies there. The empty account will be inactive unless you choose to use it.If you need to delete the account because you want to re-use the email address, just change the email address online. To fully delete an account and its related email address and user name - https://evernote.com/contact/support/kb/#!/article/23403793
