RobDallimore 1
Hi,I have Evernote on my iphone, and work chat works fine. But when using Windows Desktop app version 5.8.3.6507, work chat does not work at all, i.e. i don't receive any messages (i can send), and it doesn't sync up with existing chats on my iphone. When i first downloaded the desktop version it did work, but a later re-install now means it doesn't. Any ideas?? Also, it would be great, once working, to be able to enable or disable chat notification pop ups, sometimes if presenting, it can be really bad to have a pop up showing a message not meant for general viewing. Level 5* gazumped 12,040 Posted February 28, 2015 Level 5* Share Posted February 28, 2015 Good point (and feature request) about inappropriate pop-ups. I've seen a few people suffer from that just with normal email messages, and at least you can exit an email client, where if you're presenting from Evernote it's a bit difficult to exit it.. Devs please note! (At least it would be good to have Presentation Mode suppress other Evernote pop-ups.) As to the lack of incoming chats - are you seeing any emails inviting you to chat? Have you checked your spam folder(s)? Is your Evernote email address set correctly? If all of the above seems OK, then I'd say the first step would be to uninstall and reinstall your current set-up. Before you start, File > Exit Evernote and backup your database folder (C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Evernote\Evernote\Databases) to your desktop, then go through the usual uninstall process, restart and re-download EN from the website, and reinstall. Get someone to share something with you and monitor what happens. If it's still broke and you're a premium subscriber, you'll want to get in a support request here > https://www.evernote.com/SupportLogin.action and maybe use the chat feature (7am-7pm weekdays PST) for a quick response. If you're a free user it's still worth sending in a bug report by selecting that option from the link above, but come back here with any errors or messages you may have seen and we can try to help some more... RobDallimore 1
Hi gazumped, thanks for the response. I've tried uninstall and re-install a few times with no success. Also, if i login to evernote through the webrowser beta version, then chat works fine and is in sync with my iphone app. I have frequent chats with a small number of people who have evernote, so no need for emails. I get direct chats on my iphone app, and this is how it worked on the desktop version when it first worked. I am a freebie user, so will send a bug report and hope someone else has experienced this and can provide a fix. I'm using Windows 8 on a MS Surface Pro 3. ThanksRob Link to comment
Level 5* gazumped 12,040 Posted March 1, 2015 Level 5* Share Posted March 1, 2015 Hmmn. The latest Windows Beta has some Chat improvements which may help - https://discussion.evernote.com/topic/81674-new-evernote-for-windows-584-beta/#entry346742 but other than that I'm stumped for why a previously working Chat should stop doing so without obvious reason. Any thoughts from SP3 users out there? Link to comment
shawn.geraghty 0
I have a similar issue. When I boot up, chat works fine. However, after a certain amount of time, I stop receiving chat notifications or messages. I have Evernote installed on my iPhone as well, and chat works correctly there. In fact, that is how I know I have a new chat message. Now if I go to my Windows laptop and send a message, the incoming messages that weren't shown now appear. And the timestamps are correct. To resolve the issue, I just reboot. Chat notifications and messages start working again. But then, after some time, the notifications of a new chat or messages from existing chats stop working. Then I have to use my iPhone periodically to check if I am missing any chat message while I'm working on my Windows laptop. Anyone else seeing this issue? I am running latest version, 5.8.6.7474. And I've reinstalled Evernote but the problem still occurs. Link to comment
Level 5* gazumped 12,040 Posted May 2, 2015 Level 5* Share Posted May 2, 2015 I suggest you submit a bug report on this. You won't necessarily get any follow-up, but it does mean that the devs will take a look at your situation and (maybe) fix it in a future release...submit a bug/ lost data report by choosing "report a bug..." in the first dropdown after logging in here> https://www.evernote.com/SupportLogin.action Premium / Business users also have access to a Chat option (7am-7pm PST weekdays) - click 'continue' on the support page after logging in. I see a notification on my Windows desktop client, 5.8.12.1827, that I have a chat, but I can't see that chat. I can reply, and I can see the subject line from the person who initiated the chat, but the content is invisible. I can see the chat on my Android phone and Evernote web beta, but not in my Evernote Windows program. I'm an Evernote Premium user. Link to comment

I suggest you check that you're up to the latest version (5.8.12) and raise a support ticket - use the (IM-style) Chat on the support line (#6 above) to get checked out. I'm not aware of there being problems, but there have been a few updates lately... Link to comment
