Idea for new feature: culling questions and to-dos

Recommended Posts

I use Evernote a lot for note taking in sales meetings.  It would be great if there was a way to highlight a passage from a note, and click a button and have that passage automatically copied into a predetermined note.

This would be incredibly useful for pulling out customer questions that I need to follow-up on, or other action items that come from meetings.

It's not a feature that I've seen anywhere else, but it would be incredibly value to me and others (I suspect) who take these sorts of notes.

Thank you!

Evan

Hi Evan - what are you taking notes on?  This would be easy(ish) in a laptop where you could Ctrl+N a new note and copy/ paste a section of text into it from eslewhere,  or you could run one copy of your account on the desktop,  and another in a web browser.  You'd be able to create new notes whilst also adding to a current meeting note.

Sometimes it's a Mac, sometimes it's an iPad with a keyboard.

I suppose I could keep a couple of side-notes open (Questions and Tasks) on the Mac, but I keep thinking how cool this feature would be. I've never seen a feature like it.  Especially on a tablet.

Since you're running EN Mac, I think this is very doable using AppleScript, and maybe using Keyboard Maestro.

In either case you could setup a shortcut key to active the script.

Just checked on this, and it looks like there is a current BUG in Evernote AppleScript support for "append".

But this approach used to work.  The code is good.

I found a tool that does exactly what I was looking for and a lot more.  Thank you for inspiring me to look for something external.

The tool is a Mac-only tool called PopClip.  You highlight some text, and you can choose from over 125 different things that can be done to that text.  one of them is creating a new note in EN, another is to create To-Dos in a variety of To-Do applications.  Works perfectly!

Thank you very much!

Evan
