After upgrading, notes are missing

StephW

Idea

I upgraded to the latest version via app store and after its reindexing (I think that's what it said it was doing?) seem to have lost access to about 85% of my notes from the mac version only - they are still in cloud, but my mac evernote has 'forgotten' them.  I discovered this when I went to clean up my tags - the indicator of how many notes are attached to a tag is correct, but it will show me only a fraction of those notes.  Nor will searches bring up notes I know exist.

I tried repairing permissions, and deleting the app store version, restarting & installing directly from evernote.  Hasn't helped.  I am running OS 10.7.5 & the latest Evernote.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

From the sound of it you will have by now confused the app considerably.  If your notes are still available online,  they will be available on your Mac.  There was a re-index to get through,  and the App Store version is slightly different from the Evernote.com version.  IMHO the Evernote version is better.

Recomendation:  restart your Mac,  check what notes are available.  Check online to see if you have more notes there.  If not, you should be back to normal.  If you do,  you may have to uninstall and 'clean' reinstall the new version,  and rebuild your database.  More detailed instructions here if you need them.

@StephW:  From my perspective, you have done nothing to have "confused the app considerably".

All of your steps were appropriate steps to resolve your issue.

The AppStore version has consistently had issues/bugs not found in the DirectDL version, and I suspect that is the cause of your current issue (I've seen this issue reported before).  You said you tried switching to the DirectDL version, and the steps you followed are the same as provided by Evernote employee Jackolicious.  He said installing the DirectDL version will automatically do the conversion from AppStore version.

So, if you have installed the DirectDL version, and the issue persists, then there is something else contributing to the issue.

You might try:  sign out of EN Mac, restart your Mac, and sign back into EN Mac.  Let EN Mac run for a few hours to ensure all background processing has completed.

In fact, you can use the Mac Activity Monitor to check Evernote CPU usage.  When you are not doing anything in EN, the CPU% should be near zero, certainly under 10%.  If it is over 100% it is most likely still working on the update conversation.  The more Notes and Tags that you have, the longer it will take.

If your issue persists several hours after trying the above, then you may want to:
