The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0150002) on Win XP SP2

With Evernote for the first time installed in my XP SP2 portable, I get the following error window text when launching it:

 

The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0150002)

 

Would it be possible to use an older Evernote version to avoid it?

It might be an idea to run Revo Uninstaller first to remove every trace of 'new' EN from the machine before you try an older version.  If you have the time,  try running Revo and reinstalling the current version - it may be that it just installed badly...

I had the same problem on clean Windows XP SP3.

I checked Windows event log and found, that VC90.CRT was missing.

I installed it from http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=29and Evernote 5.8.3 was started sucessfully.

Thanks for posting about this. It's definitely a bug and will be fixed in a future release.

As noted, installing the vc9 runtime from MS is a workaround.

+1 [sOLVED]  Installing the VC9 runtime from Stepa's link fixed the problem for me.  Installed in WinXP SP3 VirtualBox VM.  Thanks

I am having the same error on a Windows 10 pc. The comments above do not help me in resolving the difficulty. Evernote used to work perfectly on my computer until a few days ago. Thank you.

If you haven't done so already,  I'd recommend contacting support on this.  The original problem was presumably fixed last year - I didn't see any reports until now anyway.  I have a Win10 installation which works fine.
