Evernote keeps crashing

Peter Stnsz

Idea

Hi,

This is my first post here. Since update to Evernote v6 I cannot open the app anymore. It keeps crashing when I am trying to open it.

I did try to uninstall it following this links:

https://discussion.evernote.com/topic/16062-uninstalling-everrnote-for-mac-os-x/

https://discussion.evernote.com/topic/7586-how-to-totally-uninstall-on-mac/

  • I did try version from Mac AppStore and Evernote website - same crashes.

  • I did remove it with AppCleaner tool, no luck.

  • When I am trying to install version 5 of the Evernote same things happening (weirdly!).

  • Otherwise I could re-install the system or create new User account on the system, but because its a work computer I cannot do any of these (or not willing because of Evernote issue, when everything else works fine)

Please see attached Error log.

Regards

Peter

Hi.

Have a look at Evernote's KB article about the 6.x releases and subsequent issues...
https://evernote.com/contact/support/kb/#/article/105269246/

Blog item on 6.x -
http://blogs.canoe.ca/canoetech/signs-of-the-times/evernote-6-for-mac-update-may-cause-files-to-appear-lost/

Most important tip about the latest version (6.0.3)  seems to be to reboot the device after the update and allow Evernote to reindex its database.

Note:  Switching from Evernote (App Store) to Evernote (Website Download) and vice versa can lead to 'lost notes'.  The two versions locate the database differently.  (Apple has special sandbox requirements for App Store apps).  If you do change from one site to the other,  export your local notebooks into Enex files before and re-import them after the switch  otherwise you'll lose any them.

There's also a new beta release for Mac - 6.0.4 Beta 1

@Peter:  AppCleaner may not remove files in hidden folders.

For a more current clean reinstall solution, please see:  See How to Completely Remove and Reinstall EN Mac

Also, Even though EN Mac 6.0.3 Mac App Store has been released that is supposed to fix many of the Ver 6.0 issues, it appears that many issues remain.

At this point I have lost confidence in all EN Mac App Store versions, and recommend that users switch to the Direct Download version.  The latest is Evernote Mac v6.0.3.

Many of us have long preferred the Direct Download version as its benefits seem to far outweigh the delays and issues associated with the Mac App Store versions.

Sandboxing (in the Mac App Store) is currently causing some very strange note-loading errors. As far as we can tell, these don't exist in the direct download version.

The code-base between the two binary types is the same if the version numbers match (currently 6.0.3 is in both direct download and app store).

Hi,

Thank you for your respones. I am not sure however if you understood my problem.

I cannot do anything with Evernote (even exporting notes or such, this is not related).

Once I launch EN I am getting window, that Evernote crashed and 'if I want to re-open it' then whatever I choose re-open or don't re-open error window with OS X crash window appears. I'll do that again same thing happen (loop).

From the top-bar I can only acces 'About..'

JMichael I have invisible folders/files on, I do use Pathfinder for searching related files. Unfortunately uninstalling instructions from the link you provided, does not contain deep clean-up/deep removal of related files.

I am pretty sure I am ommiting some files that causing crash...

Regards

Peter
