In settings, what difference does it make if I check use network? I can tell what it will do if I check Use GPS, but what is the difference if I check use network?

Android has the ability to guess your location using your WiFi and cell network. It's not as accurate as GPS but works better indoors and can consume less power if you're already using the network.
