Create notebook then can't use it

I create a notebook in Evernote Mac / iPad - but it does not show up in any list. Try to create it again and get a name already used error. So there are any number of notebooks in my account that I can't find and can't save something to... cannot find a setting about this, what am I doing wrong?

That's a known bug,  but it wouldn't hurt if you raise a support request (see below) choosing the Bug Report option.  As a suggested work-around,  I realise you can't see these notebooks,  but if you send an email to your Evernote account address using the subject line "test email @<notebook>",  see whether you can get the notebooks to display once they have a note inside them...
