How to search for Bible references ie. john 3:16

How do I search for a Bible reference in a document where a search for john 3:16 (for example) will return only "john 3:16" and not every john, every 3, etc.

Try putting the whole thing in double quotes.

Tried putting double quotes ""john 3:16"" returns any john any 3 and any 16.

Put it in double quotes means "john 3:16" not ""john 3:16""

 

Per Evernote docs, below, and my testing, this should work.

 

• "San Francisco"
  • matches: "The hills of San Francisco"
  • does not match: "San Andreas fault near Francisco winery"

It may have problems with the punctuation characters, but you may get a match anyways.

IME, searching on special characters, even when enclosed in quotes, is spotty.

I just tried this, Win 7, Evernote version 5.7.0.5492. Search for "John 3:16". That's with double quotes, not double double quotes (""John 3:16"") or double single quotes (''John 3:16''). Worked for me. Verify what Evernote is searching for using the Search Explanation panel (View / Show Search Explanation).

I found it after creating a quick test PDF.

I'm using Evernote version 5.6.4.4632 (272632) Public

 

The text in the PDF contains John 3:16

I searched using "John 3:16"

The search found the term and highlighted it.
