can't sync

Recommended Posts

I upgraded to the latest version on my Vista laptop Monday, had to re-boot, after that couldn't sync. "Can't connect to server" Also not recognizing my password, which I guess is due to not connecting.  This version works fin on my XP machine. I've uninstalled, installed an earlier version, rolled my system back, done a COMPLETE uninstall followed by registry cleanup. It's too late at night to keep going; tomorrow I'll try installing again.

Great.  Multiple users,  multiple OS's and probably tons of different reasons for not syncing.  OK class:  tick these off if you've done 'em.

  1. Check in with Evernote https://evernote.com/contact/support/ to confirm there's no server issue.
  2. Switched devices off and back on - just in case.
  3. Log in via Evernote.com to see whether those notes are up to date.  (You know that all devices sync to and from the cloud and not to each other,  right?).
  4. Confirm which device isn't syncing if I have more than one.
  5. Check the Activity Log (desktops only - under Help) to see whether there's a visible problem.  Save the logs for support.
  6. Emptied all the Trash Notebooks you can find on all devices and sorted out any Conflicting Changes Notebook entries.
  7. Disable SSL3 in Internet Options (Windows XP and 7 Only). https://evernote.com/contact/support/kb/#!/article/101867943
  8. Uninstalled and reinstalled Evernote.  https://evernote.com/contact/support/kb/#!/article/24422932
  9. Raised a support request (see below) and received a ticket number.  Use CHAT if it's available and you're a premium user.
  10. Backed up and renamed your Evernote Database folder (Windows only) AFTER exporting any unsynced notes and Local Notebooks to ENEX files (one per notebook).

If you need any more help with any of that,  please start your own thread and be sure to say whether you're using  Windows / Mac / Android and which - desktop, web or mobile.

Good luck!

Thanks, yes, problem was the security settings. For others who come here, from  gazumped:

"Evernote made some changes to improve security.  Details here https://evernote.com...ticle/101867943  (there were also emails)

One important thing to do,  whether or not you use Internet Explorer to browse;  go to

Internet Explorer > Settings > Internet Options > Advanced.      >> You can also get to these settings thru Control Panel

scroll down to Security

Check "Use TLS 1.0 / 1.1 / 1.2".  and UNcheck any SSL boxes.

Then retry syncing."

Great checklist Gaz!

But, given the multiple uses on multiple platforms, I'd guess the problem is most likely with Evernote.

If they haven't gotten it yet, this should be a wakeup call for Evernote to do a serious investigation of sync across the board.
