Are the two separate? Can they be used together? Are the GUI options a subset of the Advanced Syntax ones? Link to comment

Are the GUI options a subset of the Advanced Syntax ones?Generally, the UI options can only express a subset of the search syntax; for example, you'd need some special signal to express exclusion terms like -tag:, -resource, etc. In addition, there's no UI to search for specific resource types like PDFs, etc. At a guess, the UI actions trigger formation of a search string, which is then handled as if you'd typed it in the search control. At least that'd be one way to do it. Link to comment
