How do I search for items that don't contain something?

 

For example. "All notes that don't have attachments"

WRT to the link you posted. I'm confused how the syntax compares to the GUI search options? Are the two separate? Can they be used together? Are the GUI options a subset of the Advanced Syntax ones?

Generally, the UI options can only express a subset of the search syntax; for example, you'd need some special signal to express exclusion terms like -tag:, -resource, etc. In addition, there's no UI to search for specific resource types like PDFs, etc.

 

At a guess, the UI actions trigger formation of a search string, which is then handled as if you'd typed it in the search control. At least that'd be one way to do it.
