Crash on every launch after installing ScanSnap/Evernote

Very frustrating.  This machine has had Evernote installed and working beautifully.  No problems.  Latest version (5.6.4.4632).

Yesterday received ScanSnap Evernote Edition.  Installed software before plugging in Scanner.  Every launch of Evernote now fails:

1. Launch Evernote

2. Go through "Welcome to ScanSnap Evernote Edition" (every time)

   (proceed through wizard)

3. Click "Get Started"

4. Receive "Fatal error" dialog with offer to send debug log to Evernote.

Steps to try to fix:

A. Emptied temp directory

B. Uninstall Evernote

C. Reinstall Evernote

(same problems)

Log file is attached.  Debug log (from DebugView) also attached (doesn't say much useful).

I also have the same problem. I've gone through the same steps at the request of EN support. When I launch EN it immediately freezes and then shuts down. My ticket has been escalated to a higher level of tech support but I haven't heard from anyone. Someone please help. It's amazing how dependent I am on this app.

There's not much experience around here with the EESS,  and all support is supposed to be with Evernote rather than Fujitsu.

If you haven't already tried the pages,  checkout Evernote's Knowledge Base content on this.

If that doesn't help,  complete a support request (see below) and post the ticket number here.  We can try to get some attention on this.

Found a solution:

In reviewing the AppLogs, I discovered it was always hanging at the point when it was trying to import files from a Watch Folder.

If you have any watch folders enabled, try removing all files that are in those folders and relaunching. This worked perfectly for me.

The watch folders still work -- it was just hanging on the initial launch AFTER an install. Once it finished the initial launch process after install, you can drop files into the watch folder with abandon, whether or not Evernote was running in the foreground or the background. When you relaunch, it pulled those outstanding files into Evernote.

If you're unsure where those Watch Folders files live, you can check here: C:\Users\%ProfileName%\AppData\Local\Evernote\Evernote\Logs

In that folder, find the most recent AppLog_2014_XX-XX.txt. In the first entry, it should show the first folder it's trying to import. If you have multiple Watch Folders, you may have to do this for each one.

Hope that helps.

If by "Watch folder" you mean an Import folder,  it's best to clear all files out of an Import folder once Evernote has imported them.  There's an option to have Evernote do this automatically as you set up the folder (Tools > Import Folders and choose Keep or Delete) or you can change this option for an existing folder.  Once a file has been imported,  there's no reason to keep another copy on your hard drive - you might edit that one by mistake when you intend to edit the original file now attached to a note.  Also it might in certain circumstances cause problems,  as here.  If you need to store these files as backups for some reason,  it's better to do so in a different folder.  If you want to move files around automatically,  you can use applications like AHK or Belvedere.
