two step verification without Google Authenticator

Hello,

 

I'd like to use two step authentication but I don't have a second cell phone...nor do I want to use google authenticator.

 

It says the second cell phone is optional, but it dumps me into google authenticator and my only choice is to cancel setup.

 

How do I get past the google authentication step?

I think Google Authentication is the only option for a free user.  Premium users also get a text messaging option.  Here is some additional information:
